Nathan's POV Most relationships begin with a name. When someone tells you their name, it opens up a way to get to know them. It's an opportunity to learn more about the person behind the name. Usually, it's a two way street where one person opens up and the other does the same, hence a relationship starts to grow.

And somewhere deep below the roots, I feel the system settling further into this new shape they’re creating together. Not entity and subject anymore. Not creator and creation. Relationship. That is the word I have been avoiding. And relationships change people in both directions. The entity lowers its gaze briefly. Then asks the question I knew would eventually come. “If I become someone… would either of you stay?”

As I gazed around the room, my heart swelled with gratitude for the relationships that enriched my life — the unwavering support of Hazel, the strength and leadership of Alex, and the wisdom and loyalty of Fenris. In that moment, I realized that misunderstandings were a natural part of any relationship, but it was through open communication, empathy, and understanding that we could overcome them. And as I embarked on my artistic journey, I knew that I had a network of love and support that would carry me through the highs and lows, reminding me of the power of connection and the importance of nurturing the bonds that tied us together.

"This doesn't follow any route. Not roads. Not borders." "No." "So, what is it?" I redrew one of the connecting lines, watching the whole map shift meaning as I did it. Every arrow, once I stopped following geography and started following relationship, pointed the same direction. Inward. Toward bonds. Toward attachment. "I think," I said slowly, "it's not spreading between people. I think it's spreading through what connects them." Isla went very still. "The mate bond." "Maybe more than that. Family. Pack ties. I don't know the full boundary yet."

Change their relationships? The thickest of the connectors looked like even an axe or electric saw wouldn’t make much of a dent. Some relationships were unbreakable, it seemed. Others were unravelling before my eyes. I had no idea what they represented. Something as simple as annoyance fading away, or maybe a warmth slowly lost. It would take a million years to figure it all out, and even longer to work out how to use it to my advantage. It was so engrossing, I almost forgot I was flying around the room. That was the least amazing part of it.

I react with a half-expressed laugh. "Relationships are the balance of romance and responsibility! Most people think that it is all about the spark, the butterflies in your stomach, or that excited feeling you have when you're meeting that person. Once you live together, those sparks will fade. Everything will feel normal. You won't be excited about your dates anymore." He whispers, "Even your fifth sex will not be as pleasurable as the first.

They were supposed to have things in common so that they could establish a basic ground on them and then they could build their relationship from there. People who were totally different could have a great chemistry between them but if they didn't have things that they could both relate to, then their relationship was bound to fail. Relationships couldn't work based on chemistry alone. There had to be something else. Something else that could act as a catalyst in the relationship.

I was very curious as to his answer. “No. I’m not jealous of your relationship with your mates. We all have our own relationship with you. You will come to see the differences in the triplets and notice your individual relationships with them will vary based on different factors. I do not base my relationship with you on your relationship with them. You and I have our own patterns, practices, and preferences. Our relationship is separate from them, it also serves a different purpose. There will be times when there will be overlap, but it will never bother me, make me jealous, or resentful.”
