She was huddled in the back of the small cabin, her eyes darting between the hull and the depth gauge. "We don't have a choice, Mina. Jun, find me the entrance to the Erebus Canyon." The Erebus Canyon was a massive, jagged underwater canyon—a deep, narrow valley on the ocean floor, carved by ancient currents and tectonic shifts. It was a labyrinth of razor-sharp volcanic rock and "black smokers" (hydrothermal vents that spew out clouds of mineral-rich, superheated water). It was a graveyard for anything that couldn't navigate with surgical precision.

Alex walked up to the stones and picked out the three that had caught his eye. One was a larger piece while the other two were smaller. The large one was as big as a bench. While the other two were the sizes of basketballs. Tobias was fairly obsessed with stone gambling. However, as Alex picked out the stones, he shook his head and approached him. “Mr. Rockefeller, these three ores don’t look so good. There’s a low chance that you’d be in the green with these. Why don’t you choose some other ones? I’ve gambled quite a few times, I might be of help.”

She lightly ran her hand over it, just brushing the ash rock she noticed little cracks starting to form. “We’ll fall through if we step on that.” Danica said standing. “ I think we can make it if we only step on the glowing rocks.” Danica said, looking around.

It was stunning, the water was transparent emerald green, and the trees in the distance made this place feel magical. I was speechless, to say the least. I glance over at Declan, and he's staring straight ahead to where I was staring just seconds ago. Then I decide to break the silence. "It's beautiful," I mumble. Declan smiles at my response. "I'm glad you like it." He opens the car door and gets out, and I do the same. Declan starts walking over to the rocks, and I follow. When we reach the rocks, I look around. The view is much prettier closeup. The water flows slowly through the stones, and the sun hits the water just right, making it look like crystals.

When I thought about that, my phone started to ring. It was Liam’s family doctor. I had already left Liam. Why was he calling me? Did he want to yell at me some more? I immediately rejected the call. However, he sent me a text message. [Ms. Reid, there’s an emergency.] Then, he called me again. I answered the call with a frown. “Ms. Reid, Mr. White’s stomach is bleeding from drinking too much. He keeps calling your name. Please come over and see him!”

And then it starts. Rocks break off from the wall and tumble down, smashing into the beetles and crushing them. The monsters try to dodge them, but it’s no good. Just like in the rest of this dimension, the smallest rocks are the ones that do the biggest damage. All it takes is a pebble to completely crush one beetle. But then, with a loud crack, a section of the canyon wall breaks off and starts to tumble down towards the beetles. Alec and I grab Elena and pull her up towards the top of the canyon wall, just in time to avoid being crushed by the landslide.
