Lily stood at the front of the classroom, eager to explain the wager between her and Diana. Instantly, the crowd erupted in excitement. No matter who lost, the outcome promised to be explosive! However, some of Diana's admirers were not pleased. "Isn't Diana's bet too severe? Let's change it!" Lily tilted her head back defiantly. "This was Diana's own agreement. She can't back out now, and if I lose, I'll honor the bet too. We'll see it through!" "Remember those words, Lily," Diana said, her beautiful eyes fixed firmly on her. "If you break your promise... I'll make you regret it."

I shook my head, trying to steer the conversation away from the dangerous territory my thoughts were wandering into. "Lily, stop. This isn't about... that. Remember what you promised me?" She tilted her head, feigning innocence. "Promised? Refresh my memory." I narrowed my eyes at her, but a smile tugged at my lips. She's playing with me, but she knows exactly what I mean. That night she caught us—well, almost caught us—she’d disappeared determined to help us bind together. "You said you'd make sure your dad marries me. “You’re looking at futures.” He could barely breathe. “They feel real.” “They are real,” she said. A pause. “But they’re not promises.” The figure finally looked at her fully. Its expression sharpened slightly. “Hope,” it said coldly. Lily ignored it. She kept her eyes on Luke. “You taught the system something important,” she said. His hands shook. “…what?” “That uncertainty matters.” Another painful vision flashed— But weaker this time. Lily continued. “You can’t only accept uncertainty when it gives you good things.”

“You really think you can take on an entire syndicate?” Dean’s voice was quiet steel. “I think we already started.” Lily exhaled. “I don’t know if I’m strong enough for this.” Jenna lifted her head. “You already were. You pulled the trigger. You saved Elena. You’re stronger than you think.” Lily’s eyes filled again. “I don’t want to lose you.” “You won’t,” Jenna whispered. Lily leaned forward and pressed her forehead to Jenna’s. “Promise me one thing.” “Anything.”

She actually thought she could get me to fall in love with her; she was delusional.

"Then let's give them a wedding they'll never forget." Lily smiled through the tears that accumulated in the outer circle of her eyes. Moonlight chiseled his face in silver—strong jaw, furrowed brows, the constant tension in his eyes. There was no turning back now. Not this man. Not the promise building between them like an ocean too deep to turn from. She whispered, "Then promise me something.". Vandaulf rested his head on her, thumb at the crease of her palm. "Anything."
