The trees part in smooth arcs, roots sinking away as a procession steps into Midnight’s territory.
They look… ordinary.
That’s what terrifies me.
Five figures walk forward, humanoid in shape but indistinct at the edges, like reality hasn’t decided what to make of them yet. Their faces shift subtly when I try to focus—male, female, young, old—never settling.
Observers.
Outcome-eaters.
The Crown hums low, not screaming, not fighting—bracing.
One of them speaks, voice soft and layered. “Sovereign Liana of Midnight.”
