The road was dark, lit only by the car’s headlights, and the rhythmic hum of the engine filled the void between us.
“You don’t seem like someone who just rescued a damsel in distress,” Daiki finally said, his tone conversational but probing.
I shot him a sideways glance. “I don’t want to talk about it.”
He nodded, his hands steady on the wheel. “Fair enough.”
But the silence didn’t last long. My thoughts were too loud, too chaotic to keep to myself.
“What does it mean,” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper, “for a she-wolf to have her mate tattoo when she’s with only one mate? Not both.”
