I then draw ever closer, one foot in front of the other, moving with the grace of a panther stalking its prey.
When I reach my door, I take a pause once more, taking a steadying breath before pushing it opening slowly, and quietly. Grasping the cold metal and turning the brass doorknob, twisting it ever so gently, I winced as it releases with the faintest of clicks. Pushing the door open just enough to slip inside, I slide through the gap, pulling it shut behind me.
Taking a glance around it, no sound comes from within the room. It's empty, just as I left it.
