“I’ve been ready since the first message.” The door in front of us was massive and reinforced, but there was a slot, subtle and almost invisible, that perfectly matched the key. I inserted it carefully, feeling the grooves align, and then pressed it in firmly. There was a faint click, a shift in the weight of the door, and then slowly, with a low grinding sound, it began to open. We stepped inside cautiously.

" I pulled out a master keycard. Beep. The green light flashed. And the door slowly opened.

Sometimes greeting him with enthusiasm, other times keeping a wary distance. The knock, when it comes, is firm but not aggressive. I take a deep breath, squaring my shoulders before opening the door.

Please don’t let it be Ryder. The door creaked open an inch.

Kira meets my gaze with lifted brows, but I give her no response as I listen to the opening, and slamming of doors. The footsteps get closer, and stop. Balls of sweat rolls down my face as the door is forced open from the outside. "Hello, kitty. Found you. "

The door is slightly pressed, as light flows out through the open cracks of the wood. My hands dash forward, holding the knob to his door, when ragged breaths and pants fill my ears, through the proximity of my body. Someone draws a deep breath, skin slapping following suit in its motion, and I open the door. Slow, and calculative, to peek in.

He just stands there, waiting—eyes locked on mine. I open the door all the way. “Fine,” I say softly. “Come in.”
