The man said and waved his hands rather impatiently. The guards nodded and left immediately not daring to stay. "You can come out." The old man smiled as he looked toward where I was hiding. "Thank you, sir, I appreciate it," I bowed, wanting to thank him. "No need for you to thank me, it's what I should have done. Once you walk ahead, take your left, you should be able to get out of the pack even quicker using that route," The old man smiled, patting my shoulder. I couldn't help but bow to the old man as I knew he was trying to help me out.

It was fleeting but I was sure I felt something that could not be explained. “Will he be alright?” I asked. “Who? Alpha Lukas?” I nodded. “You might not know this but he's the best warrior in our pack. He can take down several men at once. You don't need to worry” he reassured, a cheeky smile on his face. “I'm just asking. I'm not worried” I replied, my voice dropping down a notch. We are at the crack of dawn. The maids in the pack house were already up and working.

He looked familiar as well. “You must be Leah.” He smiled, as I stood to attention in front of the sofa. He outstretched his hand as I looked at him confused. “Oh, apologies, where are my manners. I am Jack Carter, Logans father.” I let out a sigh of relief and accepted his hand, shaking it. “Logan is at the office at the moment.” I explained. “I know, I actually came here to see you.” I tilted my head intrigued. “Have you seen the news?”

While they conversed about me, I came to a conclusion that this school had a knack for talking about people in their presence, like they weren't there. "Where's Walker tho?" The guy Luke had called Manny asked. "He's the captain and should be here to tell us if we have practice or not." Luke coughed. "It's a free day today as Walker's not in school. We'll practice tomorrow." Just like that, the conversation shifted from me to Walker and then to basketball where it rested eventually. Thankful for the attention I was not getting, I delved into my food, promising to enjoy it, until Luke said, "Ahh, Steyn, Should we go to see Walker today?"

Oliver Breakfast was over all too quickly. I had already forgotten most of the names of the pack members who were introduced to me, most of whom were warriors or farmhands who report to Ryan. He wasn’t there this morning, but we were told he was already out working. We got up and walked to Narissa’s office with her leading the way. Sophia and Sam stood up to join us. Before we could enter the office, I stop suddenly, causing them to slam into me accidentally.

“You’re difficult to understand. And I never did meet a woman who stood out the way you did.” I looked down, fingers tracing the rim of my glass. “And what about you?” “What about me?” “What did you want, Nolan? Before the weight of a crown and a pack?” He hesitated. I could see it, the flicker of something behind his eyes, the ghost of a younger man he used to be. “I never really had the luxury of wanting,” he said. “From the moment I shifted, everything was duty. The Alpha’s seat was mine before I could even decide what kind of man I wanted to be.”

Husband, it sounds weird. "You haven't introduced yourself yet." She diverted the topic. "Oh yes." He straightened his back, "I am Lucas Wills, from the chemical engineering department. Also a captain on the football team." He told her. "Wow. You are great." She gave him a thumbs up. "I am Hannah Park from IT." "I know already." He looked away. "What? How do you know me? As far as I remember today's the first time we are seeing each other." Hannah was curious.

Fires crackled softly throughout the camp where soldiers and travelers alike rested, but not all found comfort in sleep. Valerian stepped away from the gathered circle of warriors and witches, his eyes scanning the horizon. He was a man of secrets and survival, but even he knew when to step aside. With a nod toward the older man sitting near the fire, he said quietly, “Talk to him. He’s your family now, whether either of you wanted it or not.” With that, he walked off, leaving Serena’s father and Alexandro in the hush of flickering light and long-overdue conversation.

Gala said, putting a hand on my shoulder “if anyone knows Alpha Nathan, it is me” “He doesn’t want me around anyway, and his mum isn’t making things any better” I said, turning to face her. Gala smiled and nodded at me to take a seat. I watched as she made me a cup of coffee before sitting in front of me. I wrapped my hands around the cup and looked down at the foam “I just don’t know what to do to please him”

*** Ronald walked into the meeting room where he was expecting the youngsters to be seated and waiting for him but he found the room empty. He walked inside, confused. Perhaps he had made a mistake and entered the wrong room, he thought. As he turned towards the door, he found his grandson already at the half open door, walking inside. "What is the meaning of this?" He demanded. "They are all gone, Grandpa." "What do you mean by that?" "I'm the leader of this unit, Grandpa. I made a call. I told them the meeting was cancelled because you had an urgent call to attend to in the city."
