This was an awakening. Shane stood a few paces behind me, silent, steady. I hadn’t looked back at him yet, but I could feel his eyes on me like a heartbeat. They made it easier to breathe. Barely. Jasper and Kade moved in unison, setting down small iron bowls at each cardinal point around the circle. Each bowl held something different—ash, salt, moonstone shards, and water from a hidden spring Shane had fetched earlier that day. Jasper said these were elements of grounding. Kade just called them “anchors.”

My mind is still on what Mrs Crook said. “Come over here baby. Let me take care of you.” Zaine steps under the water and waits for me to make my move. A nervousness tugs on our bond, but it doesn’t come from me. It is him. He is nervous, like before, at the cabin. What could he possibly have to be worried about?

Then he stepped closer. Something primal slithered through the air. It wrapped around me, warm and electric, like static before a storm. And then—I felt it. A ripple. A tug. Deep in my chest. Like a string being pulled tight. My breath caught. “What the hell,” I muttered. Zane stopped just short of me, so close I could smell his cologne—dark wood, smoke, and something sharp underneath. His eyes scanned me, like he was seeing more than what I was. Like he could see through me. “You’re an omega,” he said. I blinked. “I’m a what?”

Mr. Zane let out a nervous cough as he watched the surveillance footage. Killian leaned on the mahogany desk in his office with a lit cigar in his hand. His demeanour was cool, calm but intimidating. Mr. Zane’s throat became dry all of a sudden. “P-please, I need some water.” He pleaded for his parched throat. Ms. Flores signalled for one of the guards to get him a glass of water. With eager and shaky hands, he grabbed the glass of water and slurped its content. The water dripped down his chin and clothes.

Cassian’s grip on my thighs tightened, his head snapping to the side as he recognized the predator advancing on us. "Zane..." Cassian began, his voice dropping into a low, warning rumble. Zane didn't speak. He didn't offer a rationale or ask for permission. He moved through the water like a tidal wave. With a low, gut-wrenching growl, Zane lunged forward, his massive frame plowing straight between Kian and Cassian. He shoved Cassian aside with a broad, violent swing of his arm, sending the larger man staggering back two steps into the churning pool. Before Kian could adjust his posture, Zane’s heavy hands reached down into the water, locking around my waist with a grip of solid iron.

His every step felt as though he were walking barefoot on blades. Zane's eyes were hollow and yet filled with utter despair. It was as though time itself had frozen. Reaching out with a trembling hand, he gently touched my frozen face. And in that moment, something inside him snapped.

He walked in-between us, “There’s a power outage at the pump machine. There’d be no water in the village once the tank dries out.” Zane sat up, “So…you need me to turn water to wine?” He covered my mouth the same second, holding my laugh. Zed doesn’t even flinch, “No. I’m telling you because you might know whose fault it is.” He threw a knife on the counter. I recognized it. Zane recognized it.

He was recalling consciousness. "W-water," Zane mumbled but he ended up coughing to his throat being dry. "Don't… don't worry…water is here," Sydney stammered as she rushed to pour him a glass of water. On the other hand, Zane was fighting to open his eyes. His entire body felt numb, especially his right arm. Forcing his eyes open. Zane blinked a few times trying to adjust to the bright lights. His eyes burned a little.

Zane murmured unhappily, with his head resting on his right hand. He checked his time and saw how late it was. He got up from his couch and decided to go and get a drink of water since he was thirsty. Zane headed for the kitchen and met a maid awake. He requests for a glass of water and they give him. Zane drank the water and left the kitchen. He made his way to the entrance of his mansion, looking outside. He watched his guards patrolling around, guiding the place. He sighed and leaned his side against the door.

“Hello, Natalie Blue Watson,” Zane said calmly. “What do you want?” Natalie snapped, shocked that her new boss was standing outside her door. Zane was about 6 feet tall with very handsome features. He had brown eyes and black hair which was cut shorter in the sides and left the middle longer. His smile was his weapon and every woman fell for it. Well, every woman except Natalie, who only saw a rich brat in him. “Won’t you ask me to come in?”
