"Hey, do you know the names of those kids and their parents?" Zenith looked thoughtful for a moment. "Uh, the kids' names are Lucy, Hunter, and Jake Marlon. And the parents are Mr. and Mrs. Marlon." "Thanks," I said, making a mental note of the names as I started the engine and drove off. Zendaya was still quiet, but she seemed a little more relaxed than before. I glanced at her in the rearview mirror. "You okay, Zendaya?" I asked gently. She nodded, looking out the window. "Yeah. Thanks for the ice cream and the talk."

The only person who had treated me like a human was their father and the man had died two months after I got married to their son. “And you both know.” A bitter laugh erupted from me, “no,” I shook my head, “I can not keep doing this. I will not keep doing this. For me, I am done! I no longer want to be a part of this disgusting, selfish, wicked family — not like I was ever considered part of you.” Veronica’s expression tightened, “you will not leave this house until the debt is repaid. You have fourteen years left.” “Yes,” Eleanor supported, shaking off her shock from hearing news of Zaya’s death.

I had to listen to her talk to me about taking care of her daughter when she had sold her to me before. “You do know we are both at fault,” I smiled as the woman smacked my arm. “Don’t say that to me, I am her mother.” “And I am her ex husband and her current husband, I think I can say whatever I want.” Zendaya joined us as I smiled at her. “What are you two talking about?” she asked. “Nothing,” her mother said walking away. “What’s wrong with her?” Zen asked. “I don’t know. But your mother is so much joy that I can’t wait to have her over for parties.”

Mariana feet shifted backwards. Zendaya scoffed, "Don't blame me now, Mari. I've just been busy. And I swear I did try to reach you." "Did you ever come to my house and I threw you out? Or are you doing something that must be hidden from me? Is it because of Alfred Caine?" "He's my father, and I have to respect what he wants of me." "Right," Mariana nodded, "and that also includes me." Another stretch of silence. And it hurt Mariana more that Zendaya wasn't saying anything to redeem herself of what she actually thought of her.

I lied. I barely knew Zendaya, I only saw her around the pack as a kid and heard her story after her father passed. "You do?" Annora creased her forehead and awaited an explanation from me. "Yes I know her. She was from my Dad's pack while growing up before her Dad passed on and they were forced to leave." "They, who and who?" Annora wanted every detail but that wasn't what I was getting at but I answered her all the same. "Her mother and her and before you ask of her mother, I didn't ask her so I don't know." I immediately added the last part to reduce the questions I had to answer.

Alexander looked a bit worried though, leaving her all by herself this late, "Are you sure? I don't mind dropping you off at your house." Zendaya smiled, genuinely grateful for his concern, "No, really, it's fine, you are brought me so far and treated me well today, I am super happy, but I had rather not risk getting in trouble with my parents, I just need some time to get it to them," she said, "They can be… unpredictable sometimes."

"Mum, dad…. I want you both to meet our newest and most beautiful family member. Come here, Kaya baby," Kaya gulped, hearing her aunty Zia. Zia held her shoulder and turned the camera towards her. Kaya saw an old lady and man on the screen who were staring at her. They had gentle smiles on their faces, especially the lady. "She is Kaya, mum and dad and Kaya, they are my parents, Celia Alcazar and Zale Alcazar, but you can call my mum granny Cia. That's her beautiful nickname," Zia introduced them.
