Alex's POV: The academy feels strange that morning. Not loud. Not quiet. Just waiting. I stand in the main hall with the rest of the students while Coach Vega reads the announcement board. The air smells like metal and morning dew drifting in from the open windows. Everyone is restless after the trial sessions. Muscles sore. Minds sharper. Coach Vega clears his throat. “Listen carefully,” he says. His voice is calm but heavy. “Due to the Decade Mate Moon, the academy will close for three days starting tonight.”

Another one waited in my pocket, just in case. Just in case, if you lose control, you’re dead. Publicly, this place was called the World Hockey Academy—a factory for champions, Olympians, prodigies. Cameras loved it. Sponsors poured money into it. Parents bragged about it. Privately, it was something else entirely. Alpha Academy. An institution built to break wolves and rebuild them stronger. Tamara leaned forward, her cowrie shells clinking against her sports bra as she narrowed her eyes. “What’s the point of grouping us?” Solana shrugged, her tank top stretching over her shoulders, but before she could answer, Timothy spoke up. “Team Seven: Aurelia of Red Moon and Tamara of Cincinnati’s WoodCrest Pack.” My stomach dropped, heat flooding my cheeks. Tamara turned to me, disappointment heavy in her gaze. Her lips pressed into a thin line, and her mascara-lined eyes flicked over me as if I were an unwanted extra.

That spot belongs to me. How do I explain this? Should I tell her the truth? Would she be weirded out? She’s from the orphanage system—nothing to her name, no family. That’s how the Academy traps girls like her. They have nothing, and we offer them a life. A luxurious life, one they can't ever refuse. And they take it, because the alternative is starvation. Or worse. "Uhm," I mumble when she turns to look at me. "What?" She asks with a frown.

Maelik said. “I know.” “That alone is enough to make half the Dominion think the academy is on fire.” “It nearly was.” Maelik’s gaze slid toward him. “I heard.” Of course, he had. Nothing truly stayed contained at Blood Oath Academy, least of all a summoning gone wrong in the central ritual chamber. Theron kept his eyes on the grounds below. “Then you know I had other priorities.” Maelik was silent for a moment. Then, “The girl.” not a question. Theron’s jaw tightened. “Her name is Virelle.”

After throwing down the rest of her clothes -minus her underwear- she shifts too. She was a cream coloured wolf, white and black streaked fur. Together they take off towards the forest. Vic suddenly runs past my legs making me jump. He looped after them, a black smudged against the white snow. Ally and Tori seemed torn, weather to shift too and run after them, or to see if I was going to change.
