Clara noticed Marcus looking at her from time to time, as if he were still trying to figure out what had happened while she was away. She avoided his gaze. There were more important things to discuss. Clara picked up her cup of water and took a slow drink before turning toward Elena. “I found something out today,” she said quietly. Elena looked at her with interest. “What did you find out?” Clara lowered her voice even further. “The zombies can't see.” Elena froze. Screams tore through the B2 level. Martha and I bolted for the stairs. Marcus stumbled behind. The smell of blood hit us like a wall. In the makeshift chapel, Sister Catherine was on her knees before the cross. A bloody hole gaped in her neck. A zombie was hunched over her, greedily tearing at her flesh. It had crawled in through an air vent. “Oh God…” Marcus retched. I grabbed a nearby iron chalice and slammed it into the zombie’s head.

Once the orders were sent out, Hayley called in Liam, Milo, and every base director within Haylight League. She laid out everything about Ascendant Creed. When she finished, the room fell into stunned silence. "Are you saying… The zombie outbreak we're facing now was created by Ascendant Creed?" "Yes," Hayley said. The zombie virus had been discovered, developed, and released worldwide by them. All for their idea of evolution. "Those sick bastards!" Milo slammed his hand against the arm of his chair, splintering the solid wood. The other base directors were no better. Rage spread across every face.

The rancid air I smelled in the hallway earlier spreads across the room like a blanket, and the sound of heavy breathing makes the hair on my neck stand on end. As if in some kind of post-apocalyptic nightmare, the zombie-like forms of the house-maids, chefs, and butlers emerge from the hallway. Their eyes are sunken, and their bodies are torn and ravaged as if they were attacked by an animal. Blood and gore pour from their shredded skin, and some of their limbs are missing. “Oh my god, they’re dead!” I cry out at the macabre sight before me. I recognize some of the faces of people whom I grew up with, but I don’t see my mother’s face, which can either be good or bad. Tears gather in my eyes

“You’re still going to pretend? Still going to hide it? Melinda already told me everything, Chloe.” Chloe’s eyes snapped to Melinda, who sat rigid, gaze fixed on the floor. Chloe’s heart stuttered. “Told you… everything?” she whispered. Zoe let out a bitter laugh that cracked in the middle. “Yeah. Everything. That your so-called sugar daddy isn’t just some rich guy, he’s a vampire. That my girlfriend…” she gestured sharply at Melinda“ is a witch. And you?” Her voice rose, raw with disbelief. “You died. And got resurrected.”

I stopped, then let out a short, cold laugh. "It didn't die peacefully. It barely made it a year. And it died choking. I still wonder what Zoey was trying to get. All that smoke in my house, those weird rituals. Suffocating a helpless little thing." I looked straight at him. "What exactly was she praying for?" His lips shook. He tried to talk, but nothing came out. "But you were thorough," I said calmly. "You let Zoey live in the house for six months. Scrubbed everything clean. Even replaced the wallpaper." I paused. "You just forgot one thing—the hamster. And you forgot who I am. I'm a doctor."

Havermouth, The Present There were no triggers that could be determined from outside, and so they moved to the external doors, weapons held ready, whilst the bomb experts forced the frosted glass doors open. The zombie burst out of the opening. A Van Helsing, his body covered in third degree burns, with bandages just clinging in places, and IV lines dangling from the needles in his veins, he let out a horrible, inhuman, screech.

I took a deep breath, closed my eyes and lay down on my bed, and thought about what happened because it is impossible that it will be gone just like that. Unless it turns into a zombie but the zombie is not real or maybe he is not real; I mean there is really no dead man’s body under my bed and it is all inside my head but it is impossible because I touched it and I felt it. I really did. I open my eyes again and check the time. It is almost 10:00 a.m. and Devon will be here in a minute so I need to hurry up.

It was surrounded by those 'walkers', stumbling around like they were in a trance. "What are they?" He breathed out, staring in disbelief. He chugged some water, letting out a sigh of hydrated relief. "They call them walkers." She pointed the screen down slightly to allow him to see easier and switched to the website she was reading. "There's information on them, finally." As Adam read, she watched his expression change from confused to terrified. "This is like an actual zombie movie." He spluttered, barely able to get his words out. Behind them, a stirring caught their attention.

"You think I'd let a traitor like you guard something that important? I knew you'd do something like this, so you never had the sample." I pause, enjoying the look of horror on his face as realization dawned on him. "What you're holding is the bait liquid I made. You should've suspected something when the zombies still ran into you even when you picked the safest route of escape." Yves wanted to say something, but more zombies came crawling out of the darkness, and they drowned him like waves of a sea. His screams reverberated across the corridor, and we heard the sound of flesh getting ripped off bones.
