I ignored Randy's provocation and casually mentioned that I had to go back to base the next day, so I would not be home tomorrow night. I saw a glint of delight in Maya's eyes as she glanced at Randy. Early the next morning, as soon as I left the house, I turned on the pinhole camera I had hidden in the bedroom. Sure enough, Randy was in my house and in bed with Maya an hour later. Afterward, Randy smugly groped Maya's chest as he said, "Hey, ask Eric to come with us to my friend's restaurant the day after tomorrow. We can do it in the restroom. Cheating right under his nose is going to be so exciting."

I sat silently on the lab stool to wait for the results until it was ready and came out. I was shocked by the revelation of the result. Not wholly shocked, I must say. Although my instincts pointed to the fact that my hunches were correct, the logical part of my brain fought against the possibilities. But now, it is confirmed. And after a couple of other research from the web, mythological books, and journals, I knew for a fact that I died and woke up. I am no longer a human. The words of the owl played once more in my head. Wake up! Arise!

nothing. “What the hell?” I whispered. How did I get here? I looked next to me and saw a shovel in one hand and a knife in the other. I tossed the knife away from me in revulsion. My hands were bloody and I trembled in horror. Then, I realized there was a hole near me. Not ready for what I was about to behold, I peeked into the hole and screamed. On the day the zombie outbreak occurs, I tell my boyfriend, Valerio Petrucci, to come over and hide in my apartment, where my front door is already reinforced. Soon, sounds of the door being knocked can be heard. I'm about to get up when transparent comment bubbles appear in front of my eyes. "Don't open the door! Valerio isn't the only one out there—there are a bunch of loan sharks with him as well!" "One of them is already infected with the zombie virus and is about to turn into a zombie!"

In the next second, the more timid Zimmer women burst into loud screams of terror. Harvey York was standing there! The man rumored to be dead was actually standing there… he was alive! “Harvey… Harvey York?!” Senior Zimmer was shaking in his boots. He almost lost his balance and fell to the ground. “You…! You… are you a man or a ghost?!” The gleeful Zack Zimmer was terrified to the point where he almost hid under a table. Everyone was perplexed, scared out of their minds. ‘A man announced as deceased had come back to life?’

He chewed the tender inside lining of his cheek, staring at a gruesome Latex lawn zombie which sprouted from the neighbor’s darkened yard across the street. “Nope,” Tommy agreed, hands stuffed into his pants pockets against the chill. They had been outside the Deadmond home for half-an-hour or so, hashing over what had happened, the resurrection they’d witnessed. “I don’t think he has any moles among Ryan’s men, and the doors were unlocked from the inside, right?” “I believe so. I don’t think you can open the doors from the outside for safety reasons.” Zoya is looking around the snow and lifts her eyes to the surrounding birch trees. “Don’t you think it’s weird the zombies are attacking during daylight? Most of them are already half-dead, burnt to crisps... It’s unsettling how they aren’t seeking shelter.” Zoya keeps walking, but I stop in my tracks, suddenly unable to walk because of a memory washing up to the surface.

"How stupid can you be? Do you think I'd ever trust you? Go ahead and open the case. There's a surprise inside." With trembling hands, Clara opened the case she had guarded so desperately. Inside it was a chunk of rotting meat that was soaked through with an extract that would lure zombies. Smiling softly, I said, "That's why you ran into zombies on the safest route." Clara began to tremble violently. Her mouth moved as she tried to say something. But in the next second, the zombies lunged at her again. They had their fill, so they took their time to savor her bit by bit.

She sighed and stared at the young boy’s firm eyes. “Fine. You can properly bury your mother but we need to burn her body. We still don’t know anything about zombies. It just still the first day of the apocalypse” Andrea Su said. She was about to turn around but she noticed Psyche Flint’s changing reactions. Psyche Flint just watched the confrontation between Lincoln Joe and Andrea Su but something unexpected happened. She noticed that, on her sight, Lincoln Joe’s body turned transparent and blood veins were visible to her eyes. The blood flows on Lincoln Joe’s body thumped like a heartbeat.

She doubted a zombie would be able to locate her there, even an advanced zombie. One of the things about zombies that stayed with them, no matter how much of their thinking and motor skills returned was the fact that they had poor night vision, depth perception, and were color blind. Those factors went in her favor since the opening to the root cellar was beneath a very realistic looking shrub that was attached to the trap door. Its coloring varied from those it was amongst only by the slightest degree and, unless you ran your hand over it, you’d never guess it wasn’t real. Combine that to the fact that it was nighttime, and she felt safe in her selection of hiding places.
