Zzz Hollow Zero Novels & Stories

The King hadn't just conquered the city; he had turned the very architecture into a living, breathing extension of the Void. "The thermal signature is near-zero," Dr. Aris whispered, his fingers dancing over the keys of the rusted Silver Rise transmitter. "Elena, the entire city has been turned into a 'Null-Zone.' If you go in there, your 'Holy Fire' will be like a flare in a dark room. Every Husk within five miles will home in on your heartbeat."

'Something's out there,' Aurum hinted, feeling a warning from her instincts. Hazel's gaze fell upon Zain as he entered the room, dressed sharply in a black suit. His eyes swept across the gathering, searching for someone. There was no sign of Wyatt, but when his eyes met Hazel's, he abruptly changed course, his feet carrying him toward her. He caught a new scent in the air, different from Misty's. Closing in on Hazel, his eyes reflected a swirling silver.

The violet light from his eyes pierced the gloom, revealing the prize we had come for. Hidden behind a waterfall of corrupted, black water was a massive, ancient Ziggurat made of seamless obsidian. It was pulsing with a heartbeat of pure anti-light. The first Tether. "Knock knock," Killian whispered.

I hoped to leave our story with the last bit of grace. However, he did not even give me that chance, so I did not want that dignity anymore. Besides, what dignity was there in a relationship already broken beyond repair, soaked in betrayal and lies? It was just my own self-deception. Zach stared at me, desperately searching my eyes for even the slightest emotion. Yet there was nothing left there he recognized. There was no love, no anger, no sadness, not even hatred. His hand dropped abruptly. The ring fell to the ground, and he did not even notice.

If only he’d been successful when he’d had his opportunity. A sound at the door caught his attention, and he turned to see Raven slinking in. “What is it?” he asked, turning away from her. As usual, she wore a revealing black bodysuit, with sheer elements teasing at her best features, with a flurry of feathers shooting out from the front and back seams like a sewn-in boa. “Sorry to disturb you, Nat,” she said, sarcastically, dropping onto a nearby sofa. “I thought you should know that Zu has been successful in his collecting, and the soul has been spirited off accordingly.”

But she couldn't mourn her camera's ultimate demise as she wasn't even getting herself. A few seconds later, Dina got herself back, holding her head she shook it vigorously to shake off her dizziness, she had always been abnormal anyways in that she had never gotten sick before so she wasn't surprised she hadn't gotten a headache in all this drama. Dina looked around the area she was in, an orange-like space with nothing but her in it... "Hi, welcome to your soul space, since you're extreme yang, instead of the usual yellow for D-rank, you get an orange, I am your system and I am known as Zero-one, a pleasure to be acquainted with you," Zero-one said in a monotone voice.

“Mrrrp.” Mason froze. ⸻ Another. Closer. “Mrrrp.” ⸻ The empty village flickered. ⸻ Then… “MEEEEEEH!” ⸻ Mason almost laughed. ⸻ The Hollow’s voice sharpened. “They leave.” ⸻ “Prrrp!” ⸻ The illusion cracked. ⸻ Mason looked down. Green vines pushed through the dirt around his boots. ⸻ Bramble. ⸻

The air tasted wrong—metallic and stale, like a room that hadn't been opened in a hundred years. "They're here," I said. I looked toward the entrance at the far end of the rink. Three figures stepped out . They weren't wearing hockey gear. They were wearing ragged black suits. Their skin was the color of a bruise, and their eyes were glowing with a sickly, pulsing purple light. The Hollow Ones. They didn't even howl. The first one leaped onto the ice, its claws extending six inches from its fingertips. It swiped at a defensive player, sending the boy flying into the boards with a sickening thud.

Koa checked another. “He's breathing.” Zenith remained focused on Malachai. The light around her intensified. Malachai screamed. The darkness began peeling away from his body. For one moment, I saw the man beneath it. Older than any ordinary human should have been. Exhausted. Terrified. And utterly alone. Then something inside him looked at me. Not Malachai but The Hollow.
