Her heart raced with each calculation; each scenario spun her imagination faster. Her phone buzzed with a text from Ishtiyaq: “Stay away from her. I mean it. I don’t care if you want him. Don’t you dare touch her.” Sana smirked, biting her lower lip. “Relax, darling. We’ll see who wins.”

“I wouldn’t call them horrible, they are worse then horrible, what’s another word that means worse then horrible?” “Ash, are you trying to sound stupid, because it’s working, what about atrocious?” “Yes, I believe that describes them perfectly. And about the other matters at hand, what do you propose we do in order to find people that can handle the war?” “I don’t know, I haven’t thought about it very much, I will go talk to Cooper and we will brainstorm some ideas while you hide in your little hobble for a little while longer.”

Thirty minutes had passed since that strange quarrel. The car rolled to a halt in front of a building that looked as if decades of ruin had chewed through its bones. Bare concrete and brick stood exposed, scarred and left to rot. The place reeked of rain-soaked rust and silence that clung like a curse. I studied it with a mixture of curiosity and unease. The walls were coated in layers of graffiti—some wild, some deliberate—like warnings carved by hands that refused to be forgotten. A gang’s den, perhaps? A graveyard of secrets?

Anton jumps up and runs to the steps. "What did it look like?" He asks frantically. "The face was disfigured. I couldn't tell if it was male or female, and it was all dressed in black." I run over to where our mates had fallen to see if anything is there. All I see is one word burnt into the wooden floor: Alecto. "What is Alecto?" Anton asks. "I have no idea," I reply as Logan and Emily come over to us.

The memory made her stomach twist violently, a nauseating mix of terror and disbelief. Her fingers hovered over her laptop, and when she opened it, her eyes widened, disbelief locking her in place. Three emails blinked insistently, impossible and absurd. Job offers. Salaries she couldn’t have imagined in her wildest dreams, positions she had never applied for, companies she didn’t even know existed. One offered an overseas posting, the second a promotion in a firm she had admired from afar, the third… a role in a city she had never visited, an executive title that would have been impossible under normal circumstances. Her pulse accelerated. Her mind raced. Someone—someone—was orchestrating a
