REBEKKA Activity was bustling in the clinic as I held my mop close to my chest and weaved through the crowd to make my way over to the bedside of one of the pack warriors who had just vomited blood on the tiled floor. I put the mop down and cleaned up the mess and was about rinsing it free when I heard my name. “Rebekka! Get over here!” Doctor Purcell yelled as he struggled to hold down a combative patient. I dropped the mop and the bucket and ran over to him, “Yes, Master!” “Hold him down, I need to pull out all these shards!” He commanded. The man on the table eyed me wickedly as I tried to hold his hands down by his side, with a little shake he sent me stumbling backwards and I fell to the floor. I wasn’t even strong enough to hold down an injured pack warrior. “Get out of the way, mutt!” a vicious voice called out to me. I stiffened and looked up, shifting out of the way quickly. The man that spoke to me, along with two other men, were covered in blood and were pushing a gurney hurriedly into the pack clinic. On the bed was the most handsome man I had ever seen! He was shirtless and covered in blood but even that did not dampen how hot he looked. I felt a tightness in my chest as I gawked at him as I got to my feet, Who the hell was that? The initial excitement was replaced by a wave of fear, when I saw his injuries. Why was he bleeding so much? I didn’t think I had seen so much blood in my life. I felt sick. I just stood there as he was wheeled in and Doctor Purcell left the patient he was treating to give all his attention to the hot injured man that was just brought in. I shook off the fear and confusion, I was in a clinic and one day I was hoping I might be able to work here as a doctor, I should not be scared of the sight of such blood or injury. I went about my normal duties of cleaning up after patients and changing soiled sheets. Later that evening, as I was returning from a supply run, I saw a line forming up outside the clinic. What was this about? “Excuse me miss, please why are you lining up here?” I asked the last lady on the line. She eyed me head to toe and then smirked, “Are you sure that you are in this pack at all?” She looked at my uniform, “How can you work in the clinic and have no idea what is going on?” I was caught off guard by her aggression, “What is going on?” I asked innocently. She rolled her eyes at me, “If you are so curious, go to the town square!” she replied. I left her side and made my way over to the town square, today had just been weird. Firstly, we got a huge influx of pack warriors, it looked like they had been in some kind of fight or battle, with whom I had no idea. We were not through dealing with that and now there was a line forming up outside the clinic, was some rare disease going around? The voice of the alpha’s messenger boomed loudly and interrupted my thoughts, “Loyal members of the Half Moon Pack, today, your heir, the son of the great alpha Michael needs your help. He has been poisoned with wolfsbane by devious witches and is near death!” I gasped in shock, the alpha’s son was dying? How? Where? Something pinged in my brain and I remembered the young sexy man that was rushed in by those three menacing men. Could that be the alpha’s son? My heart began to thump in my chest. “He has a rare blood type and as such we need to find a donor for him or else he will die. Save your heir’s life… go to the clinic now and get tested, there awaits a huge reward for whoever shall save his life!” Before I could finish processing what I had heard, I was already running back to the clinic to join the line. How could I be aspiring to be a doctor like Master Purcell in the future and yet allow the alpha’s son to die under my nose? I couldn’t let that happen, I doubted that a low born like me would amount to any good but I was determined to do my best to save his life. I joined the queue and waited impatiently for my turn. Kaitlin glared at me when it was her turn to draw my blood, “What the hell do you think you are doing here?” “Please test me,” I said and bowed curtly. “What good could your blood be to anyone?” she added. “Next!” she shouted, looking past me. “Please test me, Kaitlin, please!” I refused to bulge. “Get away mutt, you are holding up the line!” the man directly behind me shouted. I winced but didn’t bulge, “Please Kaitlin,” I pleaded. Doctor Purcell came over with an annoyed look on his face, “What’s the matter here?” “Dad, Rebekka joined the queue!” Kaitlin ratted off. Doctor Purcell eyed me then looked at his daughter, “Just test her, this is urgent.” “But…” she began to protest. “Just do it and be done with it,” he cut her off. “Give me your hand!” She said in annoyance. Kaitlin jabbed me with the needle and drew my blood, I winced in pain, looked like she did it intentionally to hurt me. She put a drop of it on the yellow Stardust leaf and then gasped when it turned deep red. “Dad!” she yelled. I looked from the leaf to her face, “Please, what is going on?” Doctor Purcell ran over, as soon as he saw the red leaf his eyes widened and he looked at me, “You are a match!” Before I could show my surprise, two guards moved forward and grabbed me and led me into the clinic to a room and a bed, adjacent to me was the alpha’s son, Lord Stephan. Everything happened so fast. One minute I am getting tested and the next I am being laid down and prepped. The last thing I remembered before passing out was the drip being hurriedly fixed into my left hand and then everything faded into blackness.130 - SAVIORSSTEPHAN POVDamon looked dead serious as he glared at me, his question hanging over my head.I was still trying to process what I had just seen. Rebekka was somewhere rocky, I thought I could see the layout of a mountain range, I thought I could guess which range it was but I needed more detail.I had never had any experience with the mating bond prior to Rebekka so I was flying blind here, it came and went as it pleased and I was at the mercy of whatever it decided to show me.There had to be a way for me to actively use it. To actively reach out to her, to find out more about where she was.“Don’t fucking leave me hanging, tell me where she is?” Damon yelled and held onto my shirt.I snapped out of my thoughts and squinted at him, “Get your hands off me!”“Tell me where Rebekka is,” he said. How did he know that I knew? “I am not telling you shit. This is of no concern to you.”“She is alive right? Is she well?” There seemed to be genuine concern in his voice. This pi
129 – BED OF ROCKS TO BED OF NAILSREBEKKA POVOnce again, I was running for my life.If someone would have told me that stepping foot outside the pack was going to be something like this, I would not have believed them.Since I ran away from Lady Vanessa, it had been from one trouble to another.I had almost died more than five different times in just the space of a few days.I didn’t know if I had escaped the hunters, I didn’t even know if I had escaped the thugs that Lady Vanessa sent after me.I didn’t know anything except for the fact that I was more lost now than I was a few days ago.The map in my possession was completely useless to me now, I didn’t know where I was, I hadn’t seen these mountains before in my life.I didn’t even know how to get back to the Shanti Tribe. I was tired, scared and hungry, this was not what I signed up for, this was not it at all.But I know that I could not stop, I could still hear the hunters behind me.“Lord Stephan, please!” I cried. Did he he
128 – MINE NOT YOURSDAMON POVI could not help but think that was too easy, that Lady Cecile let me off the hook too quickly.I know I was not at fault for the botched-up attempt to kidnap Gwen. That was purely on her people but at least, I expected a bit more outrage than I got, something told me that I would not like what her next move was going to be.But I could not worry about that now, all that was on my mind was Rebekka, I needed to see her and make sure that Vanessa did not try something smart.Vanessa was a snake and I did not trust her one bit. The fact that she remained resolute to come on the trip with us was proof enough that she was going to do something.I sighed as I walked towards the clinic and then pushed open the front door. Was it too much to hope that Rebekka was actually safe and sound?“You again… what do you want?”I smirked at the old man as I looked around, I took a deep long sniff, her scent was faint, she had not been here in a while.I frowned as another
127 – SOURED RETURNSTEPHAN POVThe sound of clapping was thunderous as my mother and I rode back into the pack. The streets were lined with happy faces who were waving, whistling and screaming their hearts out at me and my mom.My heart warmed with joy and I waved at them as I rode past, the news of my return seemed to have spread like wildfire and now everyone was out to welcome me.They did not know about what almost happened to their Luna. Some things were better left unsaid to the lowly masses. As far as they knew, the Luna was returning from her humanitarian visit and her son – the one thought to be long lost - was returning with her.It was a momentous day for the pack, after being showered in praise and warm welcome nonstop for a while, my initial excitement of returning dulled and there was a dull ache in my heart. What could be taking away from my joy at a time like this, I wondered but then it occurred to me.I looked at Luna, “Mom,” I whispered.Luna Gwen turned to look a
126 – RUN FOR THE HILLSREBEKKA POVThe sudden change in my vision made me realize that my eye color has changed too, making the hunters around me nervous.“Could she be an alpha?” one stuttered in fear.“An alpha? What nonsense… this is a weak mutt,” the guy from before barked.“But her eyes,” they cautioned as they watched me.“Fuck her eyes, no way this is an alpha wolf.”My body was tingling all over, it wasn’t from the rough metal wires of the net that were cutting me all over, no, this was something else.Something that I had felt before, my head felt light and it was almost like I was having an out-of-body experience, I felt myself floating above the hunter’s settlement, floating above the highest tent that was pitched there.I could see all around me, the lush green grasses to the west and the mountain ranges to the east, what was happening, why did this feeling feel so familiar.“Kill the damned creature before she rips through this net and kill us all!” some of the hunters b
125 – HUNTER’S TRAPREBEKKA POVDid I lose them? I couldn’t help but think that. For a while now, since I had fallen down that slope, nobody had been attacking me.After the initial panic started wearing off, I had to admit to myself that I was lost, completely and utterly. The map that I had in my possession was useless to me now.If I could not find my way back to any of the packs that we had treated, there was no way I was going to be able to use the map.The thick trees began to wane until all that was left were a few trees and a lot of vegetation, lush green grass like I had only seen in pictures before. If I was not so busy being worried about my life and the fact that I was lost, I would have been able to take in and enjoy the scenery, it was pristine. The field of knee length green grass spread ahead almost as far as my eyes could see. At the end of it were tents. My heart jumped with joy, was that another settlement?I had said to myself earlier that if I could find another s
