FAITH

Fire burned through my veins, and my vision swam as I stared at his tanned hand on her still-flat stomach.

There were numerous gasps of delight for an heir from the crowd, and I glanced around, wondering if maybe I had heard them wrong. Yet, as the horror and pity-filled faces reached me, I knew I hadn’t.

Sable smiled up at me from beneath her lashes, placing a hand atop his on her stomach before leaning into his side and fluttering her lashes at him as if they were newlyweds.

“What are you talking about?” I whispered to my mate, praying I had heard him wrong. There was no way he had been with Sable. “That’s impossible. I would have felt it.”

“I’m so sorry, Faith. It just happened.” Sable said before pushing her bottom lip out, her wide eyes filling with tears as she stared at me as if wanting my forgiveness.

“No! You can’t be pregnant.” I said, turning to Ryan before dropping my glare down to his hand still in hers. “She can’t be pregnant! Did you sleep with my sister?”

“Faith,” Ryan hissed, and I knew he was angry that I was speaking against him in front of Alpha Cain, but I didn’t care about that. The single syllable was enough to confirm he was speaking the truth. There was no denial or guilt there, only fury that I had the nerve to challenge him so publicly.

My heart felt like it was being ripped in two, and my body began to shake as the understanding and betrayal sank in.

No! No, Ryan wouldn’t have slept with my little sister! This had to be a bad dream!

How long had they been fooling around behind my back? How had I not felt it?

My wolf had been feeling weaker lately from him using my magic, but I never thought she was so weak that I wouldn’t feel him violating the sacred mate bond.

Now, I felt it. Hearing Ryan admit to cheating made my skin crawl, and my wolf released a loud howl in my mind, so raw and broken that it felt like my head was going to burst.

I tried to pull my hand free from his, his touch suddenly feeling like acid, burning my flesh, but he only tightened his hold.

“What have you done?” I whispered. I stared at him in horror as my body was consumed in agony.

I could feel my wolf rising, clawing at the inside of my brain, wanting to break free and attack my sister.

My little sister. How could she?

“What have you done?!” I asked Ryan again, the panic in my voice coming out more clearly as I shouted. I had given him everything I had. Every time I found a way to prove to him that I was enough, he just demanded more, but I had nothing more to give him.

“Faith, please, you have to understand. We love each other!” Sable whimpered, blinking rapidly at me as her eyes lined with tears.

They were fake. Fake tears… but they looked so real. How had I been so blind?

No wonder she had been so cocky about becoming a Luna. I had thought she was delusional to think she would be the one Alpha Cain fell for… the one who survived him.

But she never intended to be his mate. She had intended to steal mine.

“He’s my mate!” I shouted at her, stepping forward. “How could you do this to me?!”

I felt my wolf surface, my eyes burning hot with the need to spill her blood as my little sister looked down quickly in submission, shaking with fear, but I had seen the truth.

For a brief moment, she smirked with victory before hiding it quickly.

My eyes burned as they turned, and my nails and canines elongated as I instinctively began to shift, but I was struck down by a fierce blow to the side of my face.

Gasps erupted from the pack as I dropped to my knees.

The familiar tingles of Ryan’s touch made me freeze, and I grabbed my cheek with my free hand. Never before had he hit me in front of the pack.

All punishments had always been private until now.

“You dare to attack my pup?” Ryan growled down at me.

“No!” I shouted in denial, even though I had been. Sister or not, I wanted to gut her. It was a primal need to eliminate the threat to my relationship with my mate that I couldn’t resist.

Giving into that anger was the only thing preventing me from crumbling beneath the agony and betrayal threatening to rip me apart from the inside out.

“You have humiliated me for the last time.” Ryan hissed, and I gasped as he grabbed my hand tightly in his. “Alpha Cain, in honor of our friendship, it gives me great pleasure to solidify our alliance with the Blackstone pack. In doing so, I would like to present you with a white wolf, Faith Collins. May you be able to teach her the obedience that I could not.”

"You can't do this." I choked out, eyeing my mark on his neck.

"I am the Alpha. I can and will do what is best for my people! You have no right to question me!”

"You're my mate." I insisted weakly, and his eyes flickered down to my mark. Hope filled me as he briefly hesitated, but when he looked up once more to meet my stare, there was no guilt or shame in what he had or was doing. No love or regret.

There was nothing. He was trading me like he were just my owner, and I, an object…like I was expendable and not the woman he had claimed to love for the past few years.

"You are no longer of use to me. I, Alpha Ryan Jones of the Midnight Pack, reject you, Faith Collins, as my mate."

I doubled over, unable to hold myself up as fire burned through my veins, starting from my toes and moving up my body to Ryan's mark on my neck, where it intensified until I felt like I was about to burst into flames.

My wolf howled in pain as a stabbing pain tore through my chest, and my hands flew to it.

Alpha Cain chuckled, amused by the scene before him as I sobbed and gasped, clawing at my neck and chest as if I could dig the fire out of my body to extinguish it.

Alpha Cain bent over me, trapping me between him and Ryan. The smoky scent of cigar surrounded me and made me want to gag.

“Hm. She’s strong. It’s rare to see one remain conscious after a rejection.” The older wolf reached forward and pulled a curled strand of my hair forward with his meaty finger, wrapping it around and around as I tried to fight back my bile. "I am going to enjoy breaking you."

FAITHI shot upright, my head pounding as I blinked quickly. My back had never hurt this much before, and I groaned as I tried to straighten it. Next time, I would ask them to move a bed over so I could lay next to him instead of sleeping in a chair, hunched over his mattress. It was dark outside, and I squinted through the low lighting at Kaiden lying in the bed. His eyes were open, but he was staring blankly at the ceiling. “Oh, Gods!” I gasped, jumping to my feet, my free hand hovering over his body and then cheeks as I resisted the urge to touch him. He looked better, barely a burn on him, but he was pale and looked dazed. “You’re awake!”No, not dazed, I realized. Kaiden looked empty as he turned to stare at me. Still, I couldn’t resist the flood of happy tears that slipped down my cheeks as I smiled at him.“I’m so happy you’re awake!” I blubbered, wiping my cheeks with the back of my hand. “I was so worried. How are you feeling? Do you need anything? Do the doctors know you

FAITHI could still feel Kaiden’s hand in mine as the talking around me lessened, but I couldn’t stay awake any longer and let my head rest on his hospital bed. For a second, I thought I felt his hand squeeze mine, and I lifted my head quickly, only to be disappointed that he was still unconscious. The nurse walked by and patted my back, and I whsipered a thank you before lowering my head again. My head rested on my arms as I hunched over his bed, keeping our hands connected, and soon I was fast asleep. The familiar halls of the castle began to form around me as if I had been physically transported to another time and place, and I watched, mesmerized, as everything was rebuilt before my very eyes. “Faith,” Cain scolded with disappointment, and I narrowed my eyes at him.“This is called stalking,” I said and watched his jaw clench. “Do you really think you’re going to be able to get away from me? Your sister is too weak to carry my pup and will be dead soon. Once she is, her power

FAITH The sound of an explosion made me duck with my hands over my head, but I was immediately thrown to the ground with Will on top of me. We were being attacked. The house shook for a moment, and I listened to small pebbles crumble from the stone around us. “Where did it come from?” I asked, but the sudden burning pain searing our bond made me grab my chest. “Get off me! It’s Kaiden! Where is he?” I gasped, shoving Will off me easily. It shouldn’t have been possible, but nothing would stop me from getting to Kaiden right now. Smoke began coming from upstairs, and so, like an idiot, that was the first place I went. “Stop! Faith! You can’t!” Will shouted, grabbing my arm and stopping me four steps up as pack members raced down them beside me in a hurry to get away from the blast zone. “Get off me. Kaiden is hurt!” I yelled, yanking at my arm as hard as I could. I saw a few wolves turn on the stairs and run back up, but the rest were all running down, and I had to pray they

KAIDEN I was on edge as I considered Faith’s words. Everything she said had been true about Ryan and Cain… Hell. They had even been right about me when she first arrived, but things had changed, and I didn't see her in that same light anymore. I needed to show her that I was different and that we were different than what she was used to.“I could buy her flowers.” I thought out loud, but the silent thumbs down from Nova as she lay on the couch in my sitting room had me tossing that idea out the window. “I could bake her something.” “She eats like a mouse right now. Save that for when her wolf is back.” Nova said, and I groaned, knowing she was right. “It’s funny that you’re trying to think of ways to make her happy. I don’t think I have ever seen you this whipped before."“What other options are there?” I asked with exasperation. “It’s really not that hard,” Nova grumbled, rolling over on the couch as the television blared behind her. To a human, it wouldn’t seem so loud, but for

FAITHI felt like I was going to be sick. “Cain? You slept with Cain? He’s like thirty-five years older than you! Are you out of your mind? What could possibly make you think someone that much older than you with three previous dead mates would be a good idea?” I shouted, standing as I stared down at her. For the first time in a long time, I felt like a big sister, scolding her under-aged sister for sneaking out after curfew to go to a party with the warriors. But she wasn’t bothered or embarrassed this time. She was proud. “I was born for greatness! You people should be bowing down before me, kissing my feet, and waiting on me! I am more powerful than any Alpha that has ever lived!” She yelled, and I rolled my eyes. “I took matters into my own hands! I became more powerful! I secured my place as a pack mother, and I will have one of the strongest pups in the world.”“Right. You think you’re stronger than an Alpha. That’s why you have been held captive twice here and at least once

FAITHThe guards around the dungeon had tripled, and none of them looked pleased with me as I entered since it was my fault that they were forced to be there. With Juliana gone, the only thing we could do was increase our defense and hope that this would work. Kaiden was standing against the back wall with his arms crossed, and I looked down to hide my smile as I remembered our conversation from an hour ago.He had a ton of work to do, but he was here, and that meant the world. He said he wanted us to be a team, and he was proving it by showing up when he didn't have to.“Back for more? You just can’t get enough, can you?” Sable asked as she sat on the floor with her legs crossed and her hands on her knees. “Are you meditating?” I asked, knowing she hadn’t done that a single day in her life before now. “Are you going to die alone, barren and pathetic?” Sable snapped back, and I rolled my eyes. She had hurt me with the insults about my fertility and my baby once, and I would not le
