Beads of sweat formed on her forehead as she turned restlessly in bed. Her eyes flew open with a loud gasp. Her hand clutched her chest as she gasped for breath.

The torment she had received in Lorenzo Empire had been haunting her non-stop. Now she was too scared to sleep. She had no one to talk to about it; she felt like she was losing her fuckin’ mind.

Sleep felt like an impossible task for her, and the night had just begun—it was barely 1 a.m. She needed water. She pushed herself out of bed and stood in front of the mirror, staring at her reflection.

She wore a light spaghetti-strap top that hung softly on her shoulders, the fabric so thin it showed the shape of her nipples beneath. The matching shorts stopped at mid-thigh, loose and airy, moving with her as she walked.

She should probably grab her robe, but then again, it was the middle of the night. She would just head to the kitchen, get some water, and then leave.

With that, she left her room, her small feet padded down the hallway, and then she ascended the flights of stairs, making a sharp turn to where the kitchen was.

The maids who worked in the mansion were fast asleep, so Anna got into the kitchen herself. Her eyes roamed around the large kitchen, and then she made her way to the fridge.

She took a glass cup and poured the contents in it; she gulped it all down. When she was done, she left the kitchen and was about to ascend the flight of stairs when she saw a tall glass door left ajar at the far end of the grand living room.

The lights were dim, making the place look eerie. Somehow, she imagined the piercing sound of screams from both the guilty and the innocent people that had been slaughtered in this empire. Was it why it felt oddly cold? And why the air felt too thick to breathe sometimes?

She had never even seen that door before. Her curiosity piqued—part of her wanted to take a look, and the other wanted to head back to her room and avoid trouble. She imagined what was behind those doors—dead bodies. But the way the door was designed and placed, like they didn’t want just anyone going through it, it was hidden by a tall black shelf which had been pushed aside to let the beautiful door come into view.

Heading back to her room also meant heading back to her nightmares. Anna gripped the stair railing tighter as she contemplated.

What if that door was the direct key to her freedom? It was possible that that door might be her way out. A back exit out of this empire. Might’ve been why it was hidden from plain sight.

She certainly had zero interest in dying in the hell hole. Someday, she would escape, and the information hidden behind those doors would be her way out.

She’d have gone back to her room to grab her robe, but what if the shelf got pushed back before she returned? The door might be locked too—she had to take the risk.

Anna let out warm air through her mouth as she left the staircase, her eyes fixed on the glass doors. She began walking, making sure her steps were as quiet as possible.

She reached the glass door; she steadily grabbed the handle and pulled it, making her entrance.

Her eyes widened as she took in the garden that greeted her. The most exotic and beautiful trees and flowers were planted at each side with a beautiful pathway in the middle.

The garden stretched for as far as her eyes could reach. What lay at the far end? Perhaps the exit door?

She suddenly felt like Barbie, who found a magical garden beneath her room—but what Anna didn’t know was that there was nothing magical about the beautiful garden. It was simply a facade for death.

Anna took in deep breaths. It was now or never, she encouraged herself. She began walking through the path, hoping she would find what she was looking for.

A guard stumbled on the sight of the glass door, which was left ajar. Not wasting any more time, as it could result in him landing in the grave, he quickly called out his fellow guard.

Together, they locked the door and pushed the heavy shelf back in place to conceal the door—unknowing someone was inside the forbidden garden.

The bright full moon hung above her head as she walked. She was sure an hour had passed, but it felt like this garden was never-ending. It made her remember the forest path she had come through when she was first being brought to the empire. Did this garden stretch for miles too? It only made that much sense, right?

While coming here, she had hoped to find another exit, but she hadn’t thought of the possibility that she might not be able to reach there on foot—at least not before the butler found out she was from the empire.

Her face fell in disappointment. Nothing ever came easy for her—how did she forget that? Her legs hurt from the long walk.

She was about to turn to leave when her eyes suddenly caught the pair of glowing golden orbs staring at her from behind one of the trees.

Her heart hitched, her blood froze, as cold sweat rolled down her back. She heard a rustling sound from the other side, and she saw another pair of golden orbs staring at her. She swallowed.

Of course, this place was bound to be haunted by wild animals. She took a step backward, but that seemed to have triggered the creature, as it suddenly let out a loud howling sound—one that sent her heart into her throat.

The two large wolves suddenly emerged from behind the trees. Anna wanted to scream, but she was too frozen to let it out.

They were larger and bigger than the ones she had seen in pictures—one with white fur and the other with black fur. Both growled at her angrily, like they couldn’t wait a second longer to tear her apart.

A tear slipped out of her eyes, and without a second thought, she began running—not on the straight middle path, but she took the path where the trees were planted.

She ran with all her might, but it felt like a stroll when compared with the agile wolves. She was panting as she ran, tears streaming down her eyes.

And then she stumbled on a large root. Her knees scraped the ground, and she fell to her face, wounding her head.

She quickly sprang to her feet, but it was too late. The wolves had gotten to her, and it felt like if she moved even an inch, they wouldn’t hesitate to pounce on her.

Chapter 29Her brows knotted as the ray of sun came to fall on her face. Her eyes flew open, and her hand flew to cover her eyes from the sun. She slowly sat up on the bed, her eyes taking in her surroundings. She was in her room—on her bed.Was everything that happened a dream? Oh, she wished it was, but the shirt which she was wearing now told her otherwise. A black T-shirt which looked more like a gown on her body, and it was heavy with his scent, his cologne. What had she done? How could she let everything happen when she knew too well how things were at the moment? She liked Rocco. What was she saying? She loved him, with all her heart. So why? Why could she do that? This was wrong. If they found out—Domenico and the Don—they might have her killed or worse. How could she be so careless? She felt this guilt weigh on her heart. She shouldn’t have gone to his mansion, she shouldn’t have been worried about him. Then all of this could’ve been avoided.Anna ran her hand through he

Chapter 28Anna’s eyes flew wide in shock. It felt like time paused at that moment as she watched him rip her nightie off with his manly strength. He covered her completely. She felt so small underneath him, underneath those wild gray orbs. He was the only thing she could see, feel, and even smell. His cologne wrapped her completely as she stared in a daze.Yes, it was all her fault. She told him to back off, but she had come here on her own. She hadn’t thought things through. She had been worried after seeing his wound, but she hadn’t foreseen the outcome. She hadn’t seen this coming at all.She saw a great amount of hunger in those orbs, and it felt like she had willingly sacrificed herself to him.His eyes latched on her now-exposed breasts, and she raised her trembling hands to his shoulder—a flimsy attempt to push him away—but it all ended with both her hands being pinned above her head. His nose trailed down the valley of her breasts. His warm breath made her toes curl. No, this

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 27: Be A Good Girl

Chapter 27Anna stood at her balcony, a glass of juice in her hand, which she drank from. The wind blew her hair, making it fall on her face, but she slowly tucked it behind her ear.Chiara had retired to her room for the night, giving her enough space for the words she had said to sink in. She had seen him that night, the way he had leisurely said it like it had nothing to do with her. Her heart raced, her cheeks burned. Anna gulped down the remaining content in the glass as her mind recalled the night of the Omerta ball.Acting crazy was his thing, but that night, it had been entirely different. He had been… possessive, like he owned her—owned her body. He had been raspy, like he had lost all patience with her. She hadn’t been aware of what she did, what warranted such behavior from him—well, aside from witnessing him committing an all-out murder, showing up in his tub naked, and trespassing that night when she should have been asleep—but her guts told her it wasn’t because of tha

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 26: Back Off

Chapter 26Anna sat on her sofa in her room while Chiara helped her undo her hair. Despite the fact she was currently in her room, she could still hear Leone’s voice, who stood right outside her room talking to the now recuperated butler. She felt anxious, exhausted, and overwhelmed by how the night had unfolded. Her head was in a mess, and it was all because of one person—Leone Vicenzo. She had fully convinced herself that his number one motive was to make her lose her mind—and watch it happen. “All done, ma’am,” Chiara said, and it was then she noticed her hair had been unclipped and it fell down her back. “Should I proceed with helping you take off the dress, ma’am?”Anna shook her head. “You can leave. Goodnight.”Chiara bowed politely and turned to leave, but even Anna easily noticed how scared she was to walk out the door—probably because the man who had been so hellbent on ending her life stood right outside. Her shoulders were stiff as her trembling hand held the doorknob.

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 25: Predator And The Prey

Chapter 25Her heart caught in her throat as she stared at him, his gaze feral, daring her to do what he said, like a predator just waiting to pounce on its prey. She felt this strange kind of heat coerce through every crook and cranny of her body, his hand on her slender waist warm, his grip firm. His one hand nearly circled the whole of her waist; that was just how small she was compared to him, the way he stared down at her, like she was a small little bird. Her toes curled, her heart beat so fast that she feared it might just burst through her chest. Earlier he had held her thigh, and she had thought he simply wanted to irk her, but that wasn’t the case right now.Right now, he seemed like a starved man, one who had lost all patience. Anna could do nothing but stare at him helplessly, his minty breath falling on her face.Leone didn’t need to lean in further to hear how her heart thudded in her ribcage. When he had fondled her thigh earlier in the car, he had loved watching her go

  • Entangled With The Vicenzos   Chapter 24: Say It Again

Leone’s control had slipped and smashed into unrecoverable bits when she created an unneeded distance between them. His eyes bored deeply into hers; they promised her no good, and she was smart enough to read them. Without another word, she got up and sat on the chair closest to him.Anna’s cheek was flushed, and she was at least glad that the lights on this side of the room were dim, making fewer people see her change seats.“You don’t own me, Leone,” she muttered, but loud enough for him to hear, and although she had simply said it for clarity, she was unaware that it had made something snap in him.Her eyes fell back on Maurizio, who had just concluded his speech, and numerous people stood up to have a handshake with him.A tall man in a red suit wordlessly came and sat at their table. His hair was blood red, his eyes black, his jaw sharp and firm. He was handsome too, just like Leone, but what was he doing here? Was he Leone’s cousin, perhaps?“Maurizio,” Leone called nonchalantly,
