Rufus pov

I gently laid Isabella on the old wooden mattress, her pale face a stark contrast to the vibrant colours of my paintings. Damn it, I shouldn't have told her she smells like dust. The words had slipped out, and now... I paced back and forth across my room, my hair dishevelled, tension palpable. The weight of the situation bore down on me like a physical force.

What the hell had I done? I grabbed my jacket, ready to bolt out the door and clear my head. But as I reached for the door handle, a voice stopped me. "Rufus, where's the black horse? I couldn't find it in the third room." I turned to face one of the stable guys, his expression expectant.

I moved back, my eyes narrowing. "Check the fifth room," I said curtly, trying to keep my tone neutral. As we walked down the corridor, the guy's voice grated on my nerves. "Hey, Rufus, I'm thirsty. Can I get some water from your room?"

My instincts kicked in, and I turned to block his path. "No, go get it from the kitchen," I said, my

Isabella pov "Mai, you don't have to keep repeating yourself. The twins—Alphas Demian and Asher—have their own decisions to make. I’m just a mate, not a commander," I said gently, zipping the last of my bags. “It’s not like I can sway their every move.” The leather strap creaked as I tightened it around my satchel. I was preparing for a short visit to my parents’ estate, nestled on the edge of Alderwood Forest—a small village that didn’t carry any scent of power, royalty, or command. Just fresh earth, sheep, and the smell of roasted meat at supper. A forgotten slice of peace, far from the blood-soaked politics of the Crescent Moon Court. They’d sent word through Mai two nights ago. A handwritten letter from my mother, smudged in the corner like she’d spilled tea in a rush. She missed me. My father had taken ill, she said, but then added a line that made me pause: He says he dreams of you. Please come. I’d packed that very night. But Mai had been off ever since. Distant. Her

Enzo’s POVIt started with the silence. No wind. No birds. Not even the steady hum of the river. Just a suffocating stillness that wrapped around the territory like a noose.I stood on the balcony outside my war room, staring into the forest as the sun began its descent. The sky was orange, bleeding into gold, and yet my instincts screamed.Something was coming.“Alpha,” Marco’s voice called behind me, urgent and sharp.I turned. One look at his face told me everything I needed to know.“Western border. Smoke. Three outposts down. And—” he hesitated “—they’re using magic.”The word dropped like a stone in my chest.Magic.Not just wolves. Not just claws and teeth and brute force. They were playing dirty now.I was halfway to the staircase when the first explosion rocked the eastern edge of the territory. The entire pack house shuddered. Cracks split along the stone walls. Windows shattered in a shriek of glass. Screams followed—high-pitched, panicked, familiar. My people.I shifted mi

Enzo’s POVThe moon had started its slow descent when I finally tore myself from the corridor and went looking for Thalia.I found her in the garden near the southern wing, where the marble fountain hummed with quiet water and the scent of night jasmine filled the air. She was sitting on the stone edge, arms braced behind her, eyes lifted to the stars like she was waiting for the universe to finally give her a damn break.I didn’t wait for an invitation.“Have you ever thought about going back?” I asked, stepping into her space without apology. She didn’t turn. “To the stars?”“To Asher’s pack.”Thalia froze. Her whole body stilled in that way that meant a storm was building, and I—brilliant bastard that I am—walked right into the center of it.“You’re not serious,” she said flatly.“I am.”She stood slowly, turning toward me with a hard edge to her stare. “Tell me you didn’t just say that out loud.”“I want to go back.” My voice was calm. Too calm.Thalia blinked. “Why?”I shrugged.

Enzo’s POV The moon hung high above the trees by the time Thalia and I returned to the pack borders. Our fur still glistened with sweat and moonlight from the run. I hadn’t felt that light in years. Maybe not since before I took the title of Alpha. Certainly not since things fell apart between Thalia and me. She didn’t speak as we walked back toward the stone path that led to the pack house, but she didn’t need to. Something had shifted between us. She had let me in. Even for just a night, that was enough. The instant we crossed the threshold into the courtyard, the world reminded me I was still Alpha. And that peace was temporary. Elder Madoc stood by the front entrance, hands clasped tightly behind his back, face pinched like someone had poured vinegar down his throat. Beside him, the other council elders—three in total—waited with stiff backs and even stiffer expressions. Thalia peeled off toward the guest wing without looking back. I didn’t stop her. “Alpha Enzo,” Madoc gre

Thalia’s POV The forest had always been my place—wild, untamed, and silent enough to drown out the noise inside my head. The golden light of the late afternoon filtered through the thick canopy above, casting a honeyed hue over the moss-covered ground. My boots crunched softly over fallen leaves as I moved further into the trees, my bow slung over my shoulder and a blade strapped to my thigh. It was the first full moon of summer, and the woods were alive with scent and sound—ripe for hunting. I needed this, needed the clarity that came from moving in sync with the forest, with my instincts. Needed to feel like me again. The weight on my chest—memories, regrets, guilt, all of it—needed to bleed somewhere. And the forest was the only place that ever seemed to listen without judgment. I was just about to shift when a familiar scent drifted through the trees. Musky, fresh pine and something unmistakably Enzo. I turned, my fingers immediately tensing near the dagger on my hip out of

Asher – POVBeing a warrior was easy. You see the threat. You draw the blade. You bleed, you survive, or you don’t. Simple.Being an alpha? Still manageable—most days. Lead. Protect. Growl at idiots who needed growling at.But being a mate?Trying to make Isabella happy? That was a damn war of its own.Not because she made it hard—but because everything else did.The world didn’t stop for love. Not even ours. And after the forge, after the rot, after almost dying in her arms for the second time in one week… I realized I’d been doing a piss-poor job of giving her anything even close to peace. So I woke up the next morning with a plan.A stupid, reckless, probably-doomed-to-fail plan. But it was for her.So I was doing it.---Mason raised an eyebrow when I called him over at dawn, still shirtless, rubbing sleep from my eyes and trying not to grimace every time I moved my cracked ribs.“You’re limping,” he said flatly.“You’re observant.”“You shouldn’t even be walking.”“And yet,” I ge
