Marly POV I stood there frozen in time. Just waiting. Watching for a sign. And suddenly I noticed a hole in the middle of the Rogue King’s forehead and blood dripping from it. As the Rogue King slumped forward, he had a look of shock on his face. Trapped in a moment of time where he lost his life. As he fell, I heard screaming from around the compound. They were screams of distress. A sound of those who had lost someone important to them. Suddenly I was surrounded by warriors with rage on their faces. I realized I was in more danger now that the Rogue King was dead. I held up my hands to try and talk reason with those surrounding me, but it was no use. They were distraught and did not know what to do now that their leader was gone. “Everybody, hear me out,” I heard from behind the crowd. Someone had stepped forward to grab my arms, pulling them behind my back. Alex had stepped forward, “You are safe now
Marly POV I felt the bullet hit my arm and I went down, with Alex covering my body. “Let me up,” I muttered as I removed the silver bullet from my arm. It had burned going in and being pulled out, but I had managed to remove the bullet on my own. These talents kept growing stronger and I wondered if it had anything to do with Alex being by my side. He looked down and was shaken when he saw the wound had been healed. “How did you do that?” he asked. “I have no idea, but I am grateful,” I responded, as we quickly took in the scene around us. The Rogue King was shouting at his warriors for shooting me. And he was trapped by staying within the walls of the compound not knowing what was happening. “Marly!?!” he yelled, “Tell me you are alive!” he shouted. I did not respond, nor did Alex. We did not want to calm the Rogue King and knowing I was alive would calm him down immediately. I knew some of our snipers had taken out the s
Carson POV I had said goodbye to a very calm Marly an hour ago. We were approaching the border as I reached out to Marly by our mind-link. “You understand, don’t you Marly?” I asked, needing assurance she was okay. “Of course, Carson. You are the strong man, and I am the weak, little woman you left behind,” she responded. I shook my head; there was the attitude I had expected earlier. “You know that is not true,” I responded, with a smile. “I know you are ridiculous to think you can shut me away every time things are dangerous,” she said cutting off our connection. What did she mean, “think I can shut her out”? She wouldn’t be following us, would she? I whipped around scanning the tree line, but I saw nothing. She was just trying to catch me off guard. I slowly turned back to the border. We were anticipating a potential ambush, so we had more than our share of warriors with us. We had also brought weapons, wanting to b
Marly POV I sat there listening to Alex go over everything with everyone. I could not help but feel sadness for him. Sadness that everyone was questioning his integrity. Questioning just how much he was going to do to help the Rogue King get what he has wanted all along. But I knew the truth. I knew Alex was good, and he would die trying to help get Carson’s mother back. But I could not let that happen. I would be going when they went to rescue Carson’s mother. I knew Carson would disagree, but I had already made my mind up. I would have to be there to help save anybody who was injured. I was getting stronger with my talents, and I knew I would be able to help faster being there. All the planning was done, and it was agreed we would leave after dark tonight. Carson had already identified his team of warriors and those who would go tonight. Of course, he did not include me. As everyone left the conferenc
Carson POV I had no idea what was happening, until I saw the knife sticking out of the Rogue King’s chest. I felt the dead silence of the room, before the Rogues protecting the Rogue King started yelling and dragging the Rogue King from the diner. We all tried to get to them, but then gunfire ensued, and we were all held back while they made a quick escape. I covered Marly’s body as she tried to claw her way out from under me. “Let me go. I can get him,” she was screaming. I ignored her and looked around to see the King doing the same with Alex. Alex was trying to get out the door. Once we heard tires squeal away, the bullets stopped flying. “Is everyone okay?” I yelled, as the glass stopped breaking in the windows. Slowly, in shock, people were responding they were fine. I felt Marly over, trying to assure myself she had not been hit. “I am good, Carson,” she kept repeating but I was struggling to believe it.
Marly POV “No fucking way!” Carson replied angrily, turning away from the Rogue King. “He has no leverage. Let’s get the fuck out of here,” Carson said, taking my hand to pull me away from the scene in front of me. The King and Queen start to turn away from the Rogue King as well, effectively dismissing him. “Do not turn your backs on me!!!” the Rogue King raged. “They are alive!” he yelled as he gestured for someone beyond the diner. As we stood there watching the blacked-out SUV pull up to the door, there was a commotion as the Rogues jumped out dragging someone from the vehicle. I felt Carson tense beside me. We could not see the face of the man pulled from the vehicle, but it seemed as though Carson might recognize him. Carson released my hand as he moved to exit the diner. “Not so fast Lycan Alpha,” the Rogue King stated, stopping Carson in his tracks. Carson turned to look at the Rogue King, “I will n
