CHAPTER TWO | WEDDING DRAMA

AVA HAYES

“What sort of stupid question is that? Why would anything like that even mistakenly cross your mind? Believe it or not, I love my father more than I love life itself and I would never do anything to hurt him." I'm suddenly reminded of the pretty awful things I said to hurt him a few minutes ago. “I won't do anything to hurt him physically." I add.

“Then why the hell are you gripping my gun like you're getting ready for a bloody war with your father?" He points to the gun, showing me just how much I am holding the gun.

With the way I'm holding on to the gun for my dear life, anyone who walks in on us is most likely to think Dante wants to hurt me and the gun is my only salvation.

With a defeated sigh, I place the gun back to its original position. “I am just so angry right now. I just wanted to release the pent up frustration in me. Daddy's refusal is taking a toll on me big time."

Dante pulls me onto the bed and starts undressing me while I continue my rants. “It's just that this is all so new to me... shocking too. Daddy has never denied any of my requests, no matter how big or small it is. Hell, he even makes my stupid request come true. Like the time I asked for a real life tangled show and he made the whole Pack work together to make it come true. It was so funny." I smile, remembering just how crazy that day had been.

I vividly remember waking up with someone yelling, ‘Rapunzel, let down your hair' through a megaphone. It took me more than thirty minutes to realize that I'm Rapunzel and when I finally let down ‘my hair' which was a rope placed at the highest floor of the pack house, my father climbed up and dazzled his way into my room dressed as Rapunzel's mother.

It might have not been what I asked for but for an 11 year old girl, it was the best birthday gift in history.

Dante hums in response, paying more attention to my freed boobs than to the words coming out of my mouth.

“Now isn't the time for sex, Cole." I snap, putting my black bra back on and adjusting my top. “We have a huge problem and all you can think about is sex. Tell me, how peanut sized is your fucking brain?"

That was a low blow, even for a person like me. I could tell by the expression on Dante's face that I have fucked up...big time.

I'm about to apologize but he beats me to it. “Coming from you? Really? You're one of the dumbest women on the planet and you know it. Next time, try to pick on someone in your mental grade. Probably a ten year old or less."

If there's one thing I've never liked about Dante, it's the fact he has a really bad mouth.

“Ouch," I mumble, turning myself away from him.

He sighs, pulls me into his arms and strokes my hair. “I am sorry, baby. I didn't mean anything I said. We are going to get married and I'm sure your father will come around later."

“But I want him to come around now. I want a really big wedding. Also, I think he is going to do something to stop the wedding." I pout.

Dante is silent as he absentmindedly runs his fingers through my hair. I know he's deep in thought, trying to come up with a solution.

“What if we get married tonight." He blurts out, a wide smile on his face. “You gave him the invitation, right?"

I nod my head.

“Which means he knows it's in two weeks time and would prepare to crash it. But if we get married tonight, he'll be caught off guard. Hell, he probably wouldn't know until after we're married."

I hesitate, not sure I wanted to get married to Dante tonight. It's just so sudden and I don't think I'm prepared for it. “I don't know, Dante. Getting married tonight seems impossible. I don't have a dress and the guests think we will be getting married in two weeks."

Dante managed to convince me into going through with his plan. I send messages to the people I want there while he goes to make the other arrangement. We wouldn't be getting married with special clothes.

Everyone of the people I invited to the wedding declined my invitation because it was the Alpha's orders. I wasn't going to let that discourage me though, I didn't need them. I only needed Dante and the priest that'll be joining us.

I finally accepted the fact that my father would never allow me get married as long as I'm his pack when every priest we went to refused to join us.

They all repeated the same answer like a sermon. “I can't go against the Alpha."

We tried to register in a courthouse but they wouldn't even let us enter.

“This isn't going to work." I tell Dante when he tries bribing his way into getting us registered.

“No shit, Sherlock." He rolls his eyes, running husband 's hands through his hair in frustration.

“What are we going to do?" I panic.

“I don't know, Ava. I think you should keep talking to your father until he agrees. We can't get married without his permission. Everyone in this pack literally bows to him."

My dad's influence in the pack is too much and that's only normal since he's the Alpha.

An idea suddenly hits me like a train and I find myself grinning like a Cheshire cat. “What if we run away, get married and then come back to the Pack officially as husband and wife. My dad's influence is only limited to our pack alone which means he won't be able to stop us from getting married outside the pack."

“That sounds feasible but how the hell do we get past the guards guarding the border?"

“We kill them and anyone else that gets in our way."

SEBASTIAN I stood there, frozen.I didn’t even know what to do. My hands hung useless by my sides, my chest rising and falling with tight, shallow breaths. Was she scared?Did I scare her away?I clenched my fists, fighting the urge to storm up those stairs and pull her back down and ask her what's wrong. But I didn’t. Not because I didn’t want to—but because I figured maybe… maybe she needed space.Alone time.Hell, maybe I needed it too.I pulled out my phone and dialed Marcus. He picked on the first ring.“Alpha?”“Double the guards around the mansion,” I ordered, my voice low. “No one goes in or out.”There was a pause. “You want it locked down again?”“Yes,” I snapped. “Don’t ask questions. Just do it.”“Understood.”I hung up and pocketed my phone.I ran a hand down my face, the frustration simmering like hot oil beneath my skin. Every inch of me itched to kick something, break something…but instead, I grabbed my keys and walked out.I needed to get out of here. The silence of

AVABy midnight, the mansion was too quiet.Unnaturally quiet.I peeked through the blinds for the third time, expecting the usual silhouettes of guards pacing around the perimeter. But no one was there.Nothing but moonlight and the trees swaying like they were whispering secrets. The silence unnerved me. The air felt still…like it was holding its breath.Something was wrong. Or right. I couldn’t tell.Jatina had fallen asleep hours ago on the couch with a book still open across her chest. The soft hum of her breathing filled the room, steady and unaware. And then it clicked. The guards were gone. The doors weren’t locked. The cars in the garage?Wide open. The keys?Still hanging from the wall, untouched. It was like... an invitation.Sebastian knew.He knew what I was planning…and he didn’t stop me.That realization hit hard. A twist in my stomach. He wasn’t just letting me go… he was stepping back entirely. Letting me walk into the arms of the man he’d sworn to keep away from me.

SEBASTIAN “Your little wifey is meeting with her ex today. —From Dove.”I stared at the paper, rereading the words that punched me straight in the gut. My jaw clenched. My hands balled so tight the damn letter crumbled inside my palm.I grabbed my phone. “Marcus,” I snapped.“Alpha?”“Find out what Ava is up to. Now.”“Understood.”I hung up before he could say anything else. I didn’t want to hear it. I didn’t want to *think* it.Ava wouldn’t…No.But why did this feel so damn real?I have warned and threatened Dante never to show his face again. Why would Ava want to see him?An hour passed.Every tick of the clock stretched my nerves thinner. Then the call came.“Alpha,” Marcus said quietly, “Jatina noticed movement.”“What kind of movement?” I asked, my voice dangerously calm.“She said Ava’s been pacing… checking her window. And earlier, she caught her staring at her phone for too long. There’s a strong chance she’s planning to sneak out.”Silence.I didn’t respond right away.“A
