Day 3

The next morning, Chance found himself waking up in the lavish apartment that belonged to the one and only Dr. Tyson (which, by the way, Chance still couldn't believe). As he stared at his surroundings, he noticed it was almost afternoon, and that this was the longest he had slept ever since his internship started.

Chance couldn’t sleep comfortably or for long in the places that were unknown to him, which is why he would stay awake the entire night in the night shifts, but somehow in the mix of soft mattress and being incredibly tired, he slept quite peacefully.

Still, Chance woke up before Dr. Tyson, who was sleeping soundly letting out soft snores. Apart from being asleep, almost the entire body of Dr. Tyson was sprawled over Chance, making it difficult for Chance to move without waking the other up.

So as he laid there, staring at the peaceful mein of the infamous Dr. Tyrant, his thoughts reverted back to last night. The sex was definitely better this time since they were able to communicate better, but somehow Chance couldn’t get the terrified face of Dr. Tyson out of his mind. Why would Dr. Tyson, who was so calm, composed and stoic most of the time, will freak out in the bed like that? Did it mean something? He wondered.

Amidst his thoughts, Chance felt the limbs over him move and a very groggy voice greeted him, “Good... morning”.

“Good afternoon” Chance greeted back flatly. Dr. Tyson blinked, stole a glance at the clock and jumped up.

“Oh my god, it’s late”! Dr. Tyson exclaimed. “Don’t you have to go”? He asked.

“I have the night shift today,” Chance declared. “Which reminds me, I won’t be able to make it tonight. We are gonna have to reschedule” Chance got up and sat on the bed. “What about you? Your shift has started right”?

“I am taking a leave today” Dr. Tyson declared flatly. “I’ll be taking the weekend duty instead” And with that Dr. Tyson sat up as well. There was a bit of an awkward silence between them for a while until Dr. Tyson spoke again, “If you have been awake all this time, why are you still here”? Dr. Tyson was worried that he would have to answer a question he did not want to be asked.

“You wouldn’t let me leave,” Chance shrugged. “No offence, but you’re really heavy” Chance groaned, stretching his back as if it was hurt or something. Seeing how Dr. Tyson didn’t bother to reply or anything, Chance decided it was his cue to leave. “Anyways, I gotta go now. I have to buy some supplies and… it’s getting late.” Chance mumbled staring at the wall. “Can I take a quick shower again”? Chance asked. Dr. Tyson nodded at him and with that Chance was out of the bed.

Terrence sat there silently wondering why Chance didn’t ask him anything. Last night, he almost let out a slip in his facade which worried Terrence a lot. The past he was afraid to confront, the very he was trying to forget with this new arrangement they had, the past that had come back to haunt him like a flash last night.

Terrence had avoided any sort of relationship or any intimacy with another guy for over the past month and when Chance came up with the proposal, he thought he was ready to move on, but maybe… he was wrong. Sure, the sex was undeniably good, but somehow it was horrifying as well.

“You okay”? Chance, who had just stepped out of the shower, hair dripping wet and droplets still rolling down his chiseled body despite the towel wipe, asked him.

“Yeah”  Terence mumbled, shaking his head.

“Okay” Chance nodded. He got dressed, and was about to leave when he paused. He wanted to avoid it, but he hated how awkward it has been since the morning. “Listen… about last night..” Chance trailed off, igniting a flame of panic in Terrence, “I..” He struggled.

“Don’t worry about it” Terence brushed him off and tried to go into the bathroom, avoiding eye contact.

Before Terrence's hand could make contact with the doorknob, Chance appeared and stood between him and the door. “No, I wanna worry about it”

“Just let it go”! Annoyed, Terence snarled, just like he would on the days of Chance’s internship.

However, this time Chance was a bit braver as he didn’t budge at all. “Damn it! I am not asking you to explain yourself, so just listen to what I have to say”! Chance raised his voice as well. This was the first time Chance ever dared to raise his voice. However, he was surprised that Dr. Tyson flinched, even if it was barely noticeable. “I am sorry. I don’t know why you freaked out like that last night. And I am not asking you to tell me. We are not that close, I get it. But… if we are gonna do this for… 29 more days, we need to communicate well.”

“Your point being”? Terrence scoffed. It seemed like Chance was asking him to explain without asking him to explain. He hated the hypocrisy of Chance’s words.

“Next time, we have sex, tell me if something I do makes you uncomfortable. I promise I won’t do it” Chance sighed. “Same for me, I’ll tell you if I don’t like something as well”.

“And you don’t want me to explain”? Terrence scoffed.

“Nope” Chance shook his question. “No questions asked,” he declared.

Terrence stared at Chance for a moment, wondering if he was for real before he nodded slightly in agreement. “Good. see you later” Chance patted Terrence’s shoulder awkwardly before he left the apartment.

Chance decided to do his shopping on his way and called Kara to see if she was available. All of his calls went directly to voicemail and knowing Kara, he knew it was safe to assume she was still sound asleep. With the upcoming night shift, it was no wonder that Kara was trying her best to gather her energy.

While Chance had difficulty in falling asleep most of the time, Kara, she can literally sleep anytime anywhere. It was one of the things Chance envied of his best friend.

Since it was already afternoon, he decided to order in while taking care of personal work like laundry and stuff. Out of the weekends, he'll only get Sunday free, so he decided to get a head start on that instead of going out.

After his lunch his mind wandered off to two things, his upcoming shift and his night before with Dr. Tyson. No matter what he couldn't get rid of the curiosity from his mind. The more he tried to ignore, the more frustrated he became.

He took out his phone to see the texts messages sent by Dr. Tyson to him in the past couple of days. Not that they provided Chance with any clue, but it did made him consider his suggestion to this arrangement.

He often wondered why did Dr. Tyson agree to this, now more than ever since Dr. Tyson was seriously dealing with something, something he would rather forget. But no matter what, he wasn't going to ask. Not yet..

Finally, when the sun crossed the horizon, he decided to head out to the hospital for his shift. The on call Doctor was pretty chill that day, explaining and teaching them while she interacted with literally everyone nicely. In fact, to welcome the newcomers she even treated them to dinner.

The next morning when everyone, especially the Interns were at the peak of their exhaustion, Chance noticed that he received a text from Dr. Tyson. The text was the weirdest text he ever got from the Doctor. {Hi} is all it said.

Chance wasn't sure to how to reply to him, so he took five minutes to consider before replying with a {Hi} himself. A minute later he received.

{I am guessing you're exhausted. You available tonight?} Dr. Tyson asked.

{I suppose. I don’t have any duty till next day} Chance replied back, feeling a bit reluctant.

{Good. Meet me at DeLia Course, 18B, MacEllore Street, 7:00 pm, sharp} a reply came. Chance wondered for a moment. It was not Dr. Tyson's house and from a quick search on the internet he could tell it was a restaurant. Wait, was this a date? Was it okay to go on a date? I mean it wasn't his plan, but deep down… really deep down it didn't seem like a bad idea.

Before he could go into a deeper spiral, he received another text. {Dress up} from Dr. Tyson. So, this was a date. Chance couldn’t believe that even though it was him who wanted to get revenge, he was still the one being pushed around since all he could reply wad {Okay}.

Chance collapsed on the bed as soon as he got home, and after waking up he started to go through all the clothes he had to make sure he fit the definition of 'Dress up'. After getting a first hand glance at the extravagant lifestyle of Dr. Tyson, his wardrobe seemed utterly useless to him.

All he had was T-shirts of various shades, a few hoodies and one suit in case of rare formal occasions in the hospital. There was no way he was wearing it tonight, so after much difficulty, he found a leather jacket and decide improvise with it.

Chance was lucky he was good looking, cause even simple made him look pretty hot. If he didn't have a date, or whatever it was, with Dr. Tyson, he was sure he would easily pick up few girls or guys on his way.

Reaching at the restaurant, he wondered if he should directly head in when the receptionist asked him if he had a prior reservation. "Um… Dr. Terrence Tyson" he mumbled.

To which the receptionist replied, "yes, he is waiting for you upstairs."

One of the waiters showed him the way to the rooftop. Chance wasn't sure where to stare at, the beautiful restaurant or the beautiful view. He was led to the table where Dr. Tyson was busy sipping on his wine. After the waiter left, Dr. Tyson mumbled, "It's seven thirty".

"I overslept" Chance replied flatly. Be it hospital or date, Dr. Tyson had to be punctual.

"Is that why you're dressed like that" Dr. Tyson teased.

"Are you kidding me?" Chance scoffed. "I don't have much formal clothing. This is the best I got"

"I see" Dr. Tyson sipped his wine.

"I look hotter than you" Chance commented.

"Oh, really"? Dr. Tyson who wore a sexy single breasted, fitted blueberry suit smirked.

Chance pushed his tongue against his cheek before he snapped, "Why are we here? This wasn't part of the plan"

"I know. But, the thing is, while sex is great, I'm bored with just sex".

"So what is this? A date"?

"Do you want it to be a date"?

"With you, I'd rather not".

"Ouch" Dr. Tyson snickered. "It's dinner. I was hungry, and I have early morning duty so I thought… why not"?

"Do you regularly have dinner here"? Chance asked.

"Yeah.." Dr. Tyson shrugged. "I was out of town. So I thought why not have dinner here" he shrugged.

"You could've had it without me"! Chance shrugged.

"If you don’t wanna eat here just go! I'm not gonna force ya"! Annoyed, Dr. Tyson snapped.

“That’s not what I meant,” Chance cleared his throat. “According to you, I am clearly not well dressed enough for this place. And it can’t be shocking to you that I am not as rich as you are, so here is the thing. I don’t understand why you invited me here, of all the places?” Chance clarified. “You said you’re bored with ‘just sex’, so I am asking how does this help”?

“....” Dr. Tyson thought for a while. “I dunno, build the moment. You told me we need to communicate. This is my effort, trying to communicate”.

“Right” Chance gulped. This wasn’t exactly what he had in mind, but this worked nonetheless.

{A/N: I am using g****e translate so bear with me.}

Listo para ordenar? ( Ready to order) ” The waiter asked.

(Yes)” Dr. Tyson replied. “El plato habitual (The usual)”

Y tu amigo (And your friend)”? The waiter asked.

Tendré lo que él está teniendo (I’ll have what he is having)” Chance spoke up. “Y no soy su amigo. Somos compañeros (And I am not his friend. We’re colleagues)” the waiter nodded and went ahead to bring their order.

“You can speak Spanish”? Dr. Tyson was visibly amazed. “Estoy impresionado (I’m impressed)”

“What’s so impressive about that? I am Latnio” Chance frowned.

“Not every Latino knows Spanish” Dr. Tyson rolled his eyes.

“You do,” Chance smirked.

“In my family, I am the only one” Dr. Tyson smirked. Chance chuckled hearing that.

“How did he know you speak Spanish”? Chance asked.

“Like I said, I am a regular here. I know him” Dr. Tyson jerked his head slightly. “I brought a lot of my dates here”

“So this is a date”? Chance smirked.

Dr. Tyson was taken aback, but gaining back his composure he shook his head. “No, it’s not”

“Okay” Chance suppressed his smile, and decided not to say anything further.

After their meal, Dr. Tyson decided to drive them to his home, for their third night. As they walked in the building once again they decided to engage in a casual conversation. Even if they had worked together for the past month, this is the most comfortable Chance had ever been with Dr. Tyson. He had to admit, he hated him less than he did a week ago.

“Tell me something, how come you’re the only one who knows Spanish''? Chance asked.

“I learned it. My siblings picked up different languages”

“You have siblings”? Chance asked.

“Mostly half siblings. You”? Dr. Tyson asked.

“Quite a lot. But the closest person I have to a sibling is Kara” Chance smiled. "It's amusing as we are not related by blood."

“So that’s why you guys are so close” Dr. Tyson nodded.

“Why, what did you think”?

“Nothing”

“Wait, you didn’t think we were dating did you”?

“Well, at first… yeah. But then you suggested we have sex, and that you mentioned this to Kara, so I thought probably not.”

Chance chuckled upon hearing that, “Yeah, I have slept with a lot of people. But, Kara isn’t one of them”.

“So you’re a playboy”? Dr. Tyson asked, unlocking his door.

“Wait, am I”? Chance paused, entering the room, following Tyson. “Regardless, I can assure you that you’re the only one with whom I have made this kind of arrangement,” Chance teased. However, Dr. Tyson was not amused at all. Dr. Tyson was about to close the door, but Chance beat him to it as he slammed Dr. Tyson to the door while bringing his face closer to the other. “ Estas listo (Are you ready?)”

Dr. Tyson slammed his lips onto Chance’s as a response.
