Flickers of light filtered through my window forcing me to sit upright. I rubbed on my sleepily eyes as a loud yawn tore out of my throat.
Memories of last night came rushing into my mind like a giant storm leaving me feeling a fresh cut of betrayal which might never heal.
I bent my head and allowed the tears which I agreed I was done shedding rolled down my cheeks.
My door opened just then, I didn't bother to raise my head up to see who it was. I just continued to cry.
“Oh dear.” I heard Lina say just before she joined me on the bed and hugged me tight. “It’s okay, my lady. Do not cry again, he's not worth it.”
Her words were supposed to console me, but it did the opposite. My heart was shattered, my trust broken. How could I stop the tears? I can't, even if I wanted to, I couldn't.
“I trusted him, I loved him. I believed he was mine… I–I”
“It’s okay, my lady, let him go already. He's not worth your beauty, allow him to be with her.”
“Her?” I broke from her embrace, and looked straight into her eyes. “What are you talking about? How do you know Raven is with someone else and not me?”
She shrugged.
“Don’t give me that attitude, Lina. You know something, tell me.”
“Well, everyone in Crestmoon pack is currently celebrating the second daughter of Alpha Kael’s engagement, it would be ridiculous if I don't know that's why you drank yourself to stupor last night.”
“You just said everyone is celebrating Vesper, right?” She nodded.
“Where are they?” I asked, already climbing down my bed.
In the Alpha's private room.” She responded. “What are you going to do? You haven't forgotten that your father has absolutely no idea you were courting master Raven, or have you?”
I sighed in pure frustration. If only I hadn't listened to Raven to keep our relationship a secret. Then I would be the one wearing the ring and not Vesper.
“My lady,” Lina continued speaking. “Sorry to say, but whatever you do right now, it won't change the fact that master Raven played with your feelings, and that he's no longer yours.”
“It won't, but that won't stop me from giving him a piece of my mind.” I hissed and started towards the door.
I opened my door and was about to step out when I saw my father standing outside, with both hands clasped behind him, and a closed up face, he looked every inch like my father.
I cast him a long and hard look before ducking my head a little. “Greetings, father.”
“You don't have to do that, it's obvious it's killing you to let out a greeting to your father.”
I suppressed the strong urge not to snort and tell him straight in the face he was the reason why I behaved that way.
“Leave us.” He said to Lina who immediately scampered off my bed and ran out.
Closing my door behind her, I folded my hands behind my back and pressed my back to my door. “It’s a surprise to see my father walk leisurely inside my room one fine morning when he should be…celebrating his favorite daughter's engagement.”
He did not utter a word until he reached my window. “Why did you go to the bar last night, Kayla?”
“Is there a law that says children of Alphas aren't to go to bars?”
He hit his right hand against my window. “Show some respect, young lady.” He thundered.
I flinched, and subconsciously bit on my lower lip.
“I ask again Kayla, why did you go to the bar last night?”
“No reason.” I muttered. I quickly looked down when he turned his back and faced me.
“No reason?” He fired at me. “You never go out to places like that. Suddenly, you decided one day to go to a bar to get wasted. Did you first sit and think of the humiliation and embarrassment you brought to me?”
That was it.
I won't take it this time. He can yell at me all he wanted, but I wouldn't take it if he tried to accuse me of embarrassing him just a day of wanting to do as I pleased.
I raised my head and looked at him straight in the eyes without blinking twice. “You say I embarrassed you.” I chuckled. A mirthless, painful sound.
“What about Vesper? She goes out and party all night? Don't her actions fill you with indignation, Do you not feel repulsed? She is your daughter just as I am, yet you pardon her for her wrongdoings but me…” I laughed and shook my head.
“I am being treated like a total outcast, a trash that should not be seen. Tell me father, what is my crime exactly?”
He didn't respond.
“You should just disown and banish me from Crestmoon pack, that way I would be happy knowing fully well I wouldn't have to fight for my father's love.”
“Kayla–” He tried to talk. I however shushed him up by raising my hand in the air.
I have no idea where the courage came from, but I was glad I did that.
“I loved Raven first, he was the one I wanted, Vesper took him from me, and you said nothing, instead you are celebrating them, the room I loved because it held the memories of mother, you allowed her have it, the garden house mother cherished even when she dragged her last breath, you allowed her turn it to her archery practice room. Even–” I broke down. Tears rushed out of my eyes.
I was heartbroken. My heart was shattered, my body, my soul, everything about me was broken. The pains of the day when my mother died years back which I thought I handled already, the pain of being neglected by my father, the feeling of trying to be the best daughter so I'd be in his good books, and now… the pain of being tossed aside like a piece of trash by the one whom I gave my heart to. All of it broke my heart the more, leaving me feeling so devastated.
“Raven doesn't love you, if he had, he wouldn't have chosen your sister. Quit being childish and go congratulate them.” It was an order, an order which I wouldn't have dared disobey on a normal day.
Too bad I was done trying to be the best daughter. I wasn't an object, I have my own opinions, and I also have the right to voice them out.
“I won't congratulate them. How can you tell me you want to go meet them? Should I smile as I go to meet them bearing gifts, telling them how happy I am that they are together.”
“Don’t tell them if you don't want to, I won't force you.” He simply said. “Since you badly want to get married, you will.”
I looked up immediately. “What do you mean?” I asked, a part of me lit up in hopes that he would cancel the engagement between Raven and Vesper and wed me to him instead. As an Alpha, he had the power to do that.
Raven and I loved each other so it would be just fine. However, much to my disappointment, I found out in the next three seconds how delusional I was.
“You are getting married in four days time to Alpha Axton of Shadowmoon pack.”
His words to my ears could be likened to the sound of a gunshot.
“What did you just say, father? I'm getting married to who?” It was a fierce battle not to stutter.
“I am sure I did not give birth to a deaf daughter, prepare yourself.” He said and started walking towards me.
A sign the discussion was over and also that he wasn't joking when he said I was getting married to Alpha Axton.
He bent to my level when he reached where I sat shedding tears which I knew better than anyone was useless.
He held me on both sides of my arms. “You had better not think of doing anything funny. Sacrifice yourself for the sake of your sister, Alpha Axton is a dangerous and crazy man who kills anyone and anything that gets in his way, but…”
He let go of my arm and held my chin forcing my head up to look at him. “He would never hurt his woman.”
KaylaWhen my eyes opened again, I was no longer in my room but inside a dark looking room.I blinked twice and struggled to adjust to the darkness at the same time, I wondered where I was.I didn't wonder for long as the door to the room I was in opened and someone entered. In the still darkness, I made out the silhouette of a man. He closed the door behind him and stood by the door for a long time then he walked fully inside.Whoever he was, I had no idea, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn't see his face. The only thing I managed to make out was his white hair.“I can see you are awake.” He said. His voice was deep and husky yet it sounded sexy to my ears.Weird.“Why did you abduct me?” I shot at him. Alpha Axton was the only person who came to mind. No one, absolutely no one would dare venture into Crestmoon pack and abduct the Alpha's daughter.Outside, everyone believed I was the favorite amongst the two of us, so no one would want to taste the wrat
Kayla“What do you mean I should just marry him?” I snapped, indignation tearing at my skin as I stared back at Lina who immediately looked sideways.I dropped my spoon down and pushed aside my half eaten oatmeal. I refused to come down for breakfast until everyone had eaten and gone out.I waited until I was certain father was in the meeting room together with his officials, then I came down to eat, but at this point, I lost my appetite.“Are you seriously advising me to give consent to my death, is this you being ignorant, or you simply have no idea what Alpha Axton really is?”She sighed heavily. “There is no one who doesn't know Alpha Axton, the revered god of war.”I scoffed. “Right, you sure know that because that's the title everyone knows him with, how about the fact that he is a cold, dangerous, heartless and wicked person?”She said nothing.“How about the fact that he can easily order my death without thinking twice, how about–”“Sorry to cut you off,

KaylaI whistled gleefully as I scattered my whole wardrobe in search of a perfect dress.Yes…My boyfriend just called me a few minutes ago, telling me to dress up and come meet him at the five star hotel where he first took me on a date.“Easy, my lady.” Lina, my maid and closest friend pleaded for the fifth time, when I almost tripped. She had been my maid since I was five, after I lost my mother who was my best friend at the age of eight, Lina took over from her, and she did try her best not to make me feel the big mole my mother left in my heart.“Come on, Lina, no one would be in my shoes and not be so happy.”“I know,” Lina murmured. “But you can't go meet master Raven with a broken ankle.”I chuckled softly, then dropped the long blue dress in my hand and moved over to her and slung my arm around her shoulder.“You are scared my father would hold you responsible for it if something happens to me?”She gave a slight nod.I chuckled. “You never cease to
