The walk was a silent one, not that I'd appreciate any conversation between–a Luna, and her maid–anyway.

‘Is that you acknowledging the fact that you are Alpha Axton's Luna?’ 

I knew that voice. Lara was teasing me.

I rolled my eyes at her, and muttered a low ‘shut the fuck up.’

She giggled quietly, but said nothing more, until we got to what looked like a study. A private study room rather.

“Are you sure he is here?” I asked her, as her eyes looked over the sandalwood door.

She nodded. “Yes Luna.” She bowed respectfully, and walked away leaving me torn between going inside or leaving.

I ended up choosing the former.

A small push, and a little weight on the door, it opened, almost sending me to hit my forehead on the marble floor.

After the shock of almost falling down wore off, I straightened.

My eyes roamed over the dark room, I couldn't see a thing despite how much I squinted my eyes. Whatever was a sane person doing in a very dark room such as this one.

Giving up a quick prayer to the goddess above hoping I wouldn't crash against anything, I exhaled sharply, and took a step forward.

I continued to walk gently, and cautiously until I collided with an obstructing block–no, not a block, but a hard chest–Axton’s chest.

Swallowing down my fear, I took a step back. 

“I didn't expect to see you here.” I muttered, my eyes looked everywhere but his face, not that I could see him clearly anyway, but I felt he could see me very clearly without having to look closer or harder.

Courtesy of being in the dark for long, or was it just an Alpha kind of power.

“You didn't?” His deep voice cut through my thoughts. “Yet you came all the way from your room to meet me here.” He laughed a little. A sound that melted something inside of me.

Kayla! Get a hold of yourself.

“Are you perhaps happy?” I clicked my tongue. “Maybe you are, I guess you are hoping I came to acknowledge the fact that I am your wife.”

“You actually can't change that.” He shot at me. His words held mockery. “Now.” Through the darkness, I saw him take a step closer to me. “I can't help but wonder how you got to know about my private study room, you haven't stayed up to ten days yet but you already know my private study room.” he stopped walking, “Is that not a sign that you wish to be by my side all the time?” 

I almost screamed when I felt his hot breath against my neck. “Or am I lying, Kayla?” He muttered.

I shuddered at the tingling hot feeling rushing down my spine to my feet. What the hell was Axton doing to me?

“I guess I'm right after all.”

I blinked twice, suddenly in control of my body. Stepping back, I said, “In your dreams. I ordered the maid you assigned to me to bring me here, I have some questions for you, and I need your answers as soon as possible.”

I heard him chuckle. “What are you saying? I assigned no maid to you?”

“What do you mean by that?” 

“Should we continue our discussion like this? In a dark room?” He asked.

I gave no response. 

“I have no problem with it, you are my wife afterall.” 

“Put on the lights.” I said almost immediately. “I am your wife only in name, and signature, of which isn't mine.”

“Not yours?” He gave a snort just before the whole room lit up.

My eyes roamed over his bare hard chest, then up to his white hair. My eyes rested there for as long as it took him to cover his bare chest.

“Can we continue?” I moved over to a sofa opposite where he stood buttoning his shirt. 

“Ask your questions, little wolf.”

“Not until you explain what you meant by you didn't assign a maid to me.” It wasn't like the person I saw was my imagination, neither was I hallucinating. What then did you mean by you didn't assign a maid to me?”

My eyes followed him to his swivel chair behind a large table with different books scattered on it.

“Maybe it was what you desperately wanted at that moment.”

“I don't follow.”

“You needed to see me, answer with a yes or no.”

“I don't see how that would give me the answer I want concerning what you said about not sending a maid to me.” I snapped. “Or are you trying to say I found my way here on my own? I remember you say I haven't been here for up to ten days, if so, how on earth will I know that you have a private study?”

“Everyone in love with reading, or a ruler is bound to have one.” He answered. He leaned forward and picked up a book, shielding his face from view. “Ask your questions before I change my mind.”

I scoffed, but still asked anyway. Sooner or later, I'd find out what he meant by not assigning me a maid.

“What did you offer my father in exchange for me?”

“What makes you think I offered him something just to marry you?”

“Don’t be ridiculous, Alpha Axton. We both know you don't love me, vice versa.”

“Since when did you start to dictate emotions, Kayla? Let alone mine.” 

I swallowed nothing. My name on his tongue reminded me of how he gripped my chin earlier on. Not wanting such to repeat itself again, I immediately apologized, not because I wanted to, but because this was the same Alpha that could kill without blinking a lash.

‘I wonder what exactly about him scares you, it's not like he'd harm his woman.’ Lara hissed in my head. I ignored her, I had absolutely no strength to banter with her.

My current bantering with Alpha Axton who still had his head buried in God knows what book was enough for me.

“You had better drop that thought because I offered nothing to your father.”

“That would perfectly explain why you had to resort to abduction, but I also recalled that my father told me I had to sacrifice myself for the sake of my sick step sister. I'm sure he wouldn't say that for no reason.”

“So, what are you insinuating?” He shut the book in his hand rather loudly. His eyes met mine from where he sat. “You think your father sold you out?”

“So that is what happened?”

“That was a question, little wolf, not a statement.” 

“It doesn't matter, it's not like he liked me anyway.” It really didn't matter, I don't know what it was that stirred something in my heart, I could only hope it was gladness.

Gladness for being free from being the perfect daughter of Alpha Kael, the daughter whom Alpha Kael doted on.
