Chapter Thirteen

Anders

Marguerite was laughing wholeheartedly with Mel when we arrived at the Island. She barely spared me a glance. And when I attempted to speak to her, Mel stopped me.

“She’s afraid of you,” she confided in me, after pulling me to the side.

“What? Am I a monster?” I questioned in disbelief.

“Well, she’s just regretting the fact that you’re going loco.” She said. “Her words.” She added when I frowned. “She’s also falling for you. A one-night stand? Really?” Mel teased, and went back to Marguerite’s side.

“You didn’t speak to Mel.” I pointed out to Qyler, as he approached me.

“We exchanged greetings.” He mumbled.

I didn’t press it, but instead watched as Mel led Marguerite up the stone steps, and over to the west wing of the Island. There were six buildings reserved for the Sovereigns of every continent. Years ago, vampires had spread over and settled down everywhere around the world. Mel was currently leading my mate to the African wing.

Chapter Fourteen Marguerite Shaking my head in self-scorn and wondering why I was reacting like a jealous girlfriend, I walked down aimlessly down the large bright hallway. Mel had told me that was where I’d be staying throughout my stay there. “Magg, wait up.” A sweet voice called out, and I whirled around to see Mel approaching me, a wide smile on her face. I liked the woman. She was so gorgeous, and looked to be in the same age range as me. But the more time I spent around her, I was certain she was older than twenty-five. Perhaps it was the aura around her, and the elegant grace with which she carried herself, but she definitely acted older.“Hi,” I smiled back. “Are you going to sleep now?” She asked.I shook my head. “I’m not sure I’d be able to. It’s still evening, and not yet dark. Plus, I’d like to go shopping, but I don’t have my credit card with me, and-” I paused and waved my hand. “I guess I’ll just go to sleep.”Mel was silent for a short moment,

Chapter Fifteen Anders“Last day. Such a nice vacation.” Qyler teased as he stretched his hands and fell in stride with me. I grunted in response, muttering some words of greetings to the other Representatives who were hurrying to the meeting hall. It was our last day on the Island, and I just wanted to get through it and return home. Well, not home, but to Marguerite. If she didn’t move out of my house the moment we got back, that is. “What do you think the problem Sovereign Edward mentioned would be about?” Qyler asked. “Probably the witches.” Mel replied. I turned to see her approach us with a tight smile. She was dressed in a beautiful emerald green flowing gown, and her signature golden armulets, and anklets. She wore chunky golden rings on all her fingers, and wore dangling golden earrings. Qyler merely spared her a glance and faced the other way to avoid further conversation. The atmosphere turned tense for a moment before I cleared my throat in an ef

Wait up.” Diala called out as she drew closer. My brows knitted together, and I turned a panicked look in Marguerite’s direction. She’d stopped walking, and was now looking at us with interest. “I just got off the phone with my father, and he apologized for being unable to send someone to take me back. Can I go with you?” Diala asked, leaning close and wrapping her arms around mine. I tried to pull away but she held on still. I knew what she was trying to do, and I wasn’t having it. “Let go of my hand, Diala.” I snapped. She ignored me, and sent a sweet smile Marguerite’s way. “Is this the human servant? Don’t be so rude, Anders. Introduce us.” Her smile grew.Marguerite’s eyes darkened. “You look more like a human servant than I do, dear Diala. Diala, is it? The name doesn’t su

Chapter One Marguerite It was already a few minutes past eleven, and I wasn’t even fully dressed yet. “Hey, mom, I’ll be at Jacob’s!” I called out to my drunk mother who was lying face flat on the floor, a bottle of alcohol in her left hand, and making weird noises. I knew fully well that she didn’t hear or understand what I’d been saying for the past thirty minutes, but I didn’t care anyway. It didn’t take me long to put on the red sleeveless gown Jacob had bought for me a month before, in preparation for Valentine’s Day/Night. Valentine. I giggled to myself and almost kicked my feet at the air save for the fact that I was standing. Jacob had been the most loving and considerate boyfriend I’d ever had, and I was looking forward to seeing him again. Just as planned, I was going to head over to his house and spend the valentine’s with him. And yes, we wanted to savor every minute, hence the reason why I wanted to be at his place before midnight. While I think you’re hot, any slight symptom of mental instability is sure to send me running far away.” She chuckled.I glanced at her forehead once more, trying to force my way into her mind and see if I could read her. I met a blank wall just like my first and second trials. I couldn’t read or hear the thoughts of the beautiful woman in front of me. I needed no further conviction that she was my mate. If anything, the mate force which moved through us moments ago confirmed it. I wanted to grab her, and take her back with me right at that moment. But something told me that it wouldn’t end well if I yielded to my inner impulse. And so I held her hand cautiously and led her to the VIP room. The music there was calmer and the walls were soundproof. After controlling the minds of the guards outside, and ensuring that we’d be the only ones in the room, I led her in. “There’s no one here. Chapter Twelve Anders“Do you think she bought the explanation?” I asked Qyler, while adjusting my position on one of the spectators’ seats. My friend shrugged.“Well, she hasn’t moved out of your home yet, so I’d say, yes.” He replied.I grunted, watching as Marguerite’s bike appeared from the corner. It was a humid afternoon, and I’d rather be inside my home, on my bed, doing whatever. However, since Marguerite questioned us about the stacks of blood in my home, I was afraid to leave her alone even for a moment, lest she ran away. I could still feel how terrified of her question I’d been. Suddenly tongue-tied, I hadn’t been able to form a coherent sentence. Thankfully, Qyler had come to my rescue and explained that he worked in a blood bank, and some issues had come up with where the blood were being stored back at his workplace. He’d added that he was given the task of keeping the blood safe until the issue was resolved. I couldn’t tell if Marguerite had bel

Chapter Eleven MargueriteI pressed my legs together, in an attempt to forget how my body had reacted to Anders’ touch. I closed my eyes with a sigh. Pathetic.I was reacting like a virgin Victorian miss on her first night. Just after a single dance. And when he’d leaned closer and breathed against my throat, I’d melted like jelly. Heck, I was aroused as it was. If our agreement was going to hold any weight, I needed to set boundaries. And maybe get laid. That could only be the reason why I was getting all tingly just by a single touch from him. I made a silent vow to have a serious conversation with him when I got back home from the party. Boundaries. No touching.“…and you’re missing race practice. You weren’t in school today too.” I heard Vinn say when I finally tuned in to what he was saying. For whatever reason, he’d been acting grumpy all evening. He’d insisted on booking a ride for us himself. Still caught up in thoughts about Anders, I hadn’t argued.“W
