I don't think I've ever been more scared in my life than I was at that moment.
I was still standing, locked in the four walls of the bathroom. My hands shook and avoided the door knob like a plague. Knowing he was standing just outside the door, waiting for me wasn't comforting. I stared at the two faint black strips. According to the pack, two lines means positive. For the third time, it was positive again. I felt hot all over, my feet was rooted to the ground. How?. How did this happen?. I didn't understand. I was confused. I jumped at the sudden bang of the door. "Why is this taking so long." He said irritatingly from the other side of the door. I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. "If you don't come out here in five seconds, I'm gonna be coming in there." I panicked at his words. I immediately rushed to the sink and picked up the other two digital pregnancy tests. I looked around the bathroom for where I can hide it, but my eyes couldn't seem to focus on a place. The trash can. I hurried over to the other side of the bathroom, to the trash can but before I could get there, Chris barged in. Out of shock, all three tests fell out of my hand, landing on the heated floor. My eyes went wide as they locked with his. He held eye contact for a moment before his eyes trailed down to the floor. Slowly he started approaching. "No." I said and immediately bent down to gather all three tests. But before I could reach the third one, he stepped on it. I struggled to pull it out from under his foot but I couldn't. I looked up at him and his expression was unreadable, it was blank like it had always been whenever he looked at me. "Please." I whimpered. "I paid for those tests. I should know the results." "No no I can I can just tell you." I was nervous and a stuttering mess. "It's negative I promise. I'm not pregnant." "Then you should have no problem with me wanting to have a look." In a flash he pulled the test towards him with his right foot. Before I could crawled over to him to grab it, he bent down and picked it up. No. I didn't even know I was crying. I watched the expression on his face go from being blank to stony. Since we got married, I had never seen him display that much expression on his face. I had never seen him this angry. My heart pounded hard in my chest. "Please I a—." I started but he cut me off with just a raise of his hand. I was already a sobbing mess. "I have just one question. I'm not the father am I?." His cold eyes pierced into me, it felt like he was seeking out my soul and out of fear, I didn't bother to think twice about my reply to him. I said the first thing on my mind. "No." "Good." MONTHS EARLIER........ I was happy. I lived my life like any other teenager in senior year. I didn't have perfect grades but they were close. I was dating the hottest and most popular jock in school. I was the school's it girl dating the school's it guy. That made a lot of people jealous of me. Girls wanted what I had and the guys wanted me. And even though I know I wasn't very much loved, almost every student at St west high says a 'hi' to me with a fake ass smile whenever they pass by. I didn't have many friend, just two both of whom are my best friend. Adriana and Cole who by the way couldn't go five minutes without arguing. I used to be the one who stopped any conflict from arising between them. My life was far from perfect but I loved it because I was happy. But all that changed the day I received that text from my dad. This message is to inform you that there would be a family meeting at the McArthur's household by 9pm prompt. Note that it is mandatory for every member of the family to attend. Be punctual so as to avoid delaying the other members. Thank you. ~ Caleb McArthur "Why is your dad being too formal with you." Adriana said from behind me and I almost dropped my phone. "Anna!." I exclaimed. She chuckled a bit. "I'm sorry. I promise I wasn't trying to sneak up on you. I know how much you hate that." "But you still did." I frowned and picked the book from my locker before shutting it close. I turned around to her leaning against the lockers with my hand crossed on my chest. "I'm sorry. I promise I won't do that again." I looked at her for a while before nodding my head. "You finished with you Ap english assignment." I asked and she shook her head. "I tried to do it but I keep getting stuck." She frowned. "It's due tomorrow morning." She groaned. "I know. If I still can't get a hang of it tonight I'm gonna have no choice but to copy yours." "What makes you think I'm done with mine?." I asked. "You're Lesley McArthur. You never wait until the last minute to do an assignment so I know you're done with yours hey look it's your man coming. I better make myself scarce before you two remind me of how single I am, a life in which I'm loving by the way. Don't worry, I'll save you a seat." I smiled at her. "Meet you soon." She said before leaving. "Hey babe." Zach greeted as soon as he got close enough. His lips found mine and gave me this short sweet wet kiss. "Hey." I said with a bright smile on my face after we pulled away. I couldn't stop smiling, Zach had that effect on me. I wanted to pull him into another kiss, a long one this time but I didn't because I know in a few minute, the tardy bell would ring besides any of the teachers could pass by and remind us of how PDA was prohibited in the school premises. "You have physics yeah?." I nodded. "I'll walk you." He said before intertwining our fingers together which were a perfect fit by the way. We walked down the hallway which as usual got us stares from many people. "Ignore them." Zach said to me. He knew how uncomfortable I got whenever I was stared at. "They're just mesmerized by your beauty." "It's not the first time they've seen me." "It's not the first time I've seen you either and I still get mesmerized by your vivaciousness whenever I see you." He said before turning his head to me to flash that charming smile of his that I love so much. "Oh stop it. Flattery won't get you anywhere with me." Feigned irritation and he chuckled. We got to the front of my physics class and I didn't want him to go again. It made me sad a bit that he wasn't going to be in the same class as me. He gave me a chaste kiss on my lips and told me to go in. Normally I would have argued with him and ask him to walk back to his class first but I knew Zach. He was stubborn and he wouldn't go unless I went in first. "Okay see you later." I stood on the tip of my toes and gave him one last kiss before going in.It got dark fast and every member of the family was sitting at the dining table where we usually have our family meeting. My mom had prepared a lot for dinner, it looked like a feast. On the table was one of my favorite dessert, apple pie. I had to fight the urge from taking a slice as the situation looked too serious for me to be thinking about food just yet. “What’s up dad. You said there was an emergency.” Chloe, my sister who was five years older than I am said. Chloe and I used to be really close until she went halfway across the country for college and deserted her younger sister. We looked almost identical and many times people mistook us for each other. But then again if we were to be standing side by side in the same room, it would be easy to tell who is who between the two of yours. A few differences between our features include the fact that I had a darker skin and I looked younger. Also Chloe’s hair was now a strawberry blonde color. She had dyed it from her natural dar
We stared at the dozens of paparazzi that crowded the entrance of the church from the windows of the limousine.“Wow. They weren’t capping when they said it was gonna be the biggest wedding in New York.” One of Chloe’s bridesmaid said. I think her name is Daphne.“Who is they?.” Penelope, another bridesmaid asked. “The news, the internet, Twitter. It’s everywhere.” Daphne said.“Why am I so nervous? Is it normal for me to be this nervous? I’m not even the one getting married. Oh my God I think I’m freaking out.” Eva, Chloe’s best friend said. She was the only friend of Chloe’s I like. “It’s completely normal. I’m nervous too.” I told her.The limo was parked at a spot and how door was opened for us. We all stepped out and began walking down the short and narrow trail that led to the entrance of the church. One of the paps standing at the entrance turned around and immediately the rest of the swarmed around us like a bee, they were smart enough to stand by our sides and not block our
The large double doors were opened, the priest came into view and asked every to stand. It was the bride's turn, my turn. All eyes turned on me. The flower girl lined the path with white rose petals as the music started. My heart pounded hard in my chest. This wasn't really happening? Was it? It felt so surreal. I was only eighteen and I was getting married, an impromptu marriage for me. This wasn't how I imagined my wedding day. It wasn't supposed to be like this. I was supposed to be happy, I was supposed to be smiling. But I wasn't, there was no emotion in me. I didn't have the strength. I didn't want this, but I have to do it. I couldn't be like Chloe, I had to save my parents and their empire. I could only imagine what would happen when the veil covering my face gets lifted. I could only imagine everyone's reaction when they realize I'm not Chloe.Zach, my boyfriend. He was here. The love of my life was going to watch me get married to another man. How would he feel? What would
The first person to notice it wasn't Chloe that had exchanged vows at the altar but me was my best friend, Adriana. It had been right after Chris and I pulled away from the kiss. I had been unable to look into his eyes after as I couldn't help but feel ashamed about what I did. The fact that I kissed my sister's husband to me and liked it made me feel disgusted with myself. I had immediately turned to the audience searching for my parents to seek some sought of comfort from them. But my eyes met with Adriana's first instead and the way she stared wide eyed at me told me that she knew it was me. I had broken eye contact with her immediately and stepped down the altar. I needed to get out of the white dress immediately. My work was after all done there. I knew Zach must have been looking for me, he was supposed to be my date to the after-party but I doubt that would be the case anymore. I wasn't ready to see him or explain everything to him but I knew I had to do it. I owed him that mu
"What do you mean that was you?. What do you mean by that Lesley." His brows were furrowed, he looked genuinely confused. Zach never calls me Lesley. And although I know that is my name but hearing him call me that makes me feel really awful. "Didn't you say this was supposed to be an arranged marriage between your sister and that dude." I nodded my head. "Then what do you mean you wore the wedding dress?. What do you mean by that Lesley?!." For the first time in the two years Zach and I had started dating, he raised his voice at me. His eyebrows were lowered and pulled closer together. His eyelids became squinted his eyes were bulged, he looked so enraged. His lips tightened and curl inwards. My heart pounded in my chest, I had never seen Zach like this, seeing him this way made me really scared. "Zach, I-I had no choice. I'm the only one my parents have. I couldn't..... I couldn't watch them lose all they had strived to build for years. I just.... I had to do it. I'm sorry." My v
The wedding reception was a garden party held upon a day of blue skies and sweetly rising heat. so palpable and real. Delicate white florals, plenty of lush greenery, light linens, decorated the garden. Unlike at the church earlier this morning, there weren't that many people here. Just close family and friends. From distance I could see my dad having a conversation with Chris's dad. He was smiling from ear to ear. My eyes found my mom too among the little crowd and she looked just the same as my dad. She had a bright smile on her face too. Looks like everyone here is happy but me."Hey." A masculine voice whispered into my ear from behind. I suddenly jumped up, startled. I turned around and standing before me was Chris. My heart jumped at the sight of him. I stared into his deep green eyes and for a moment I got lost in them. His gaze were too intense and I just couldn't hold it. I broke eye contact and took two steps back when I realized we were standing too close to each other.I
The kiss was not that different from the one we shared at the altar. It was just as unfamiliar and shy. A chaste kiss. His lips were soft and moist yet they felt foreign against mine. It was nothing like Zach's. His hands felt cold against my cheeks, I could feel their slight tremble. He was nervous.I guess he really liked Chloe. I pulled away and gave him a cheeky smile. "Is that how you guys kiss in Greece?." I asked."W-what?." He asked. His eyebrows furrowed. He looked genuinely confused. "I mean you lived in Greece right?." I asked and he nodded his head."Yes I did." He added. "I mean you kiss me like we are middle schoolers who are just kissing for the first time.""Oh." He scratched the back of his head. "I just don't want you to feel like I'm rushing things. I don't want you to think I'm taking this too far.""What farther can this get? We are already at the farthest place already. We are married, remember." I pointed out."That's true. I guess I just want to do things at
"Lesley!." My mom's voice suddenly said, jolting me awake. I almost jumped off my bed from the suddenness of it all. My heart was pounding so hard in my chest. I looked around trying to figure out where I was. I was disoriented. Slowly I began to regain complete consciousness. "Mom, what's wrong?." I said, my voice still hoarse from sleep. I was in my room, I glanced at the window to see if it was morning yet but saw it was still dark outside. "What time is it, mom?." I asked."It's past ten." She said. "When did you leave the party? Your father and I looked everywhere for you. We called your number but you never answered our calls."I ran a hand through my hair and rubbed down my face. "I forgot my phone at the hotel." A yawn escaped my lips. After my conversation with Chris, I had been so tired that I hailed a cab and came back home to have a short nap. Turns out it wasn't so short 'cause it lasted over three hours. "Mom, don't worry I'm not Chloe. I'm not gonna run away. Where i
