View MoreLucy was sitting on the grass by the lake; her long legs folded beneath her. She appeared tranquil as her long brown hair moved gently in the breeze. She gazed up at the moon, her emerald eyes reflected its light, and she wore a subtle smile. After hearing a sound to her left, she turned to find her friend Emma standing nearby. The evening was warm, with a clear sky and visible stars. Lucy watched the stars quietly, as she often did, there was something magical about them. Without speaking, Emma joined Lucy on the grass and rested her head on Lucy’s shoulder; they exchanged quiet smiles.
Lucy glanced over to check on Nicola and Alex, always looking out for her friends. They lived in a quiet village that attracted tourists in the summer, but it was not as crowded as the town where Lucy had previously lived. Since moving to Thetford last year, Lucy appreciated the slower pace of life—the friendly local pub known for its whitewashed walls and dark oak beams, and the calm, welcoming atmosphere made it an ideal place to relax.
A small park was situated just behind them, where the sounds of several young men engaged in playful activity could be heard. Lucy glanced toward the commotion, discerning the outlines of three or four individuals. Turning her attention back to Emma, Lucy offered another smile, reflecting on the exceptional nature of their friendship. Emma consistently demonstrated unwavering support, readily available regardless of her own circumstances. Lucy then shifted her gaze back up to the sky, her thoughts drifting to memories of her hometown, which was located not far from the coast.
"Lucy," Emma said as she raised her head, neatly brushing her long black hair over her shoulder. "Are you alright?" Lucy turned to her friend, becoming aware that she had momentarily lost herself in thought.
“Yes, I’m fine. I suppose I was reflecting on home and became absorbed in my thoughts,” Lucy responded with a sigh. Emma glanced at her with a knowing smile, having correctly anticipated Lucy’s line of thought. She valued the depth of their understanding and took some comfort in it.
"Let’s go for a walk," Emma suggested, promptly rising to her feet and assisting Lucy. She indicated the park with a subtle nod and an unmistakable spark of enthusiasm in her eyes. Lucy quietly noted with a slight smile that Emma had also noticed the group of men and appeared interested in approaching them. Lucy brushed herself off, linked her arm through Emma’s and gestured to Nicola and Alex as they began to walk.

James and his friends spent their Saturday evening together, seated on the swings in the park behind the local pub, engaging in conversation after sharing a drink. Richard and James were new to the village, while Henry and Robert were lifelong locals. Upon arrival, James arrived visibly injured, though he chose not to disclose the circumstances, and his buddies respectfully refrained from inquiring further. They accepted him for who he was, understanding that he would share his story as time passed if he felt comfortable doing so.
James and Richard observed a group of young women by the lake and expressed their curiosity. Henry and Robert, however, were familiar with Emma.
"Emma is the one with long black hair; she has quite a dynamic personality," Robert remarked, shifting his feet nervously. James noted Robert's visible interest in her with an amused smile. Although James was a few years older than his peers he had been readily welcomed into the group, and they had all developed a strong friendship.
"It seems you may be interested in her," James remarked, glancing toward the lake. He noticed the two women had stood up and were walking in their direction. James tapped Richard on the arm to get his attention and gestured toward the approaching individuals. Richard turned, watching as they walked closer.
Lucy became aware that they were being observed as she glanced toward the park, noticing the presence of onlookers. She then turned to Emma with a sparkle in her eye.
"It appears we have been noticed," Lucy remarked, nudging Emma gently. Emma observed the unfamiliar men, then recognized Robert standing slightly apart. With a quiet laugh, she quickened her pace.
Lucy and Emma smiled at the individuals observing them. Alex and Nicola had moved away but remained nearby. Lucy and Emma stopped in front of one of the guys giving a small shy wave. James greeted Lucy and nodded to Emma. He noticed he had approached the women while Richard stayed behind. Henry and Robert remained near the swings.
Emma greeted them, displaying her usual confidence and openness to meeting new people. She looked past James and Richard, who had caught up, towards Robert and asked what he was doing.
"Not much," James replied, still looking at Lucy. Emma acknowledged his response and then walked over to Robert, leaving Lucy with James and Richard.
“Lucy,” Emma looked at her “We are here for a reason” Emma had now taken centre stage and was stood between everyone “I have suggested that we pull our talents together and form a band.” Lucy looked at Emma, James and then all the others she thought about it for a moment.“Yeah” she said, “Why not?” This stunned James. Lucy hated preforming in front of people, it wasn’t for her. But she was up for it. Lucy knew with this group she called her best friends she could do it and if she could they all could. What did they have to lose it was a bit of fun in her eyes.“You think it’s a good idea?” James looked at her.“Yeah, I do, you can sing, we both write songs and everyone else here also has some musical talent or something they could do to help us.” Lucy shrugged “It’s a way to bond and a bit of fun, even if nothing ever came of it it’s the eight of us having time together jamming!” They all looked at Lucy, Emma was grinning, Lucy shrugged “Well it’s true, I have loads of songs and Jame
Emma looked up at Robert as he came into the room with coffee, he placed them all on the coffee table and sat down in the chair opposite James.“I have an idea James” Emma spoken calmly. “It may sound stupid, but please don’t dismiss it straight out.” She paused, thought for a moment, she had to say this in the right way, she knew she only had one shot at convincing James. “I’ve been thinking about this for a while you see, this isn’t just one of my hair brained schemes” Robert interrupted her.“And god knows you have a lot of them” he chuckled.“Thank you, Robert,” she looked at him pointedly. “I thought it was a bad idea at first, just a silly dream or something.” She looked back at James. “But the more I thought about it, the more I knew it was right.” James wiggled on his sofa, looking at Robert and back at Emma he was getting impatient now and he started to grow nervous, this idea clearly had something to do with him for her to be here. Did he want to be the main attraction of on
James had woken up early on Sunday morning, not much of the town had yet. He opened the curtains to his third floor flat, humming to himself he was in a good mood this morning. He switched on the kettle and reached for a mug from the cupboard. Sitting down on the sofa with his coffee he picked up a pencil and piece of paper. He had a song buzzing through his mind and he wanted to get it written down. James had lots of pieces of paper with half written songs on them, some were complete, some he was extremely happy with others were odd like poems that made no sense. Even to him. He had a talent for it, everyone who had ever seen or heard him sing had told him so. He just shrugged it was just something he enjoyed doing. He never thought about sharing it with the world, that’s not what he wanted he just wanted to enjoy dabbling. He often showed Lucy his work and sang his songs to her, that was the world he was interested in.He was going to sing a song for Lucy on her birthday. And he felt
Nicola Looked at Richard, why wasn’t this guy jealous of her being with Barry, was he just so secure in himself, or did he not care? She couldn’t work it out and where did he have to be today that was so important?“Look I’m sorry” she said. “I didn’t mean to cause a scene, I just don’t understand how chilled you are when I hang out with Barry, and I get offended for him or maybe it’s my insecurities that cause it.”“It’s cool, you need to work on it though I wont fight with you because you feel that someone should act a certain way. It’s not a good environment to be in” Richard said. He held out his arms and Nicola went in for her hug. “I’m jealous all the time when you see your Ex, I just don’t understand why you aren’t” She mumbled into his shoulder. Richard pushed her back slightly so he could look at her.“You more than anyone should know why I see my ex, and why I don’t create hostility. Nicola Nodded she knew it was different; he Had to be friends with her for one reason and o
Richard was spending his Saturday morning in the town centre; he was trying his best to find a present for Nicola. He had been in every shop in town, scanned every window, he had seen plenty of things he would like but he couldn’t find anything he thought Nicola would like. It wasn’t that she was difficult to buy for he just didn’t know what to get her. It was her birthday in a week, and he had a short week to find something. He was starting to think he was going to have to go for a drive into Bury St Edmunds or something. The sun was out as usual and there was a buzz along the high street. He had bumped into a few friends while out and passed the time of day with them. He did have other plans today not just aimless shopping and that was causing him frustration as well. He was on a time limit, as just over two years ago he had become a father. He got to see his son once a month, He kept trying to get more time, but his mother was not letting him, so he ensured without failure he was on
Robert slid his hands down Emma’s body grabbing the hem of her nightdress he ripped the thing up and over her head. She arched her back into him as he kissed up her belly to her breasts. She as perfect. He cupped one of them as he played with her nipple suckling on the other Emma’s lips parted in desire. She looked up at him he had way too many clothes on. Her hands came to his t-shirt as she pulled it up and over his head. Why did he have so many clothes on she was breathless, how was she naked already.Grabbed her hands and tucked them behind her head smiling down at her he wanted to taste her and tease. His bulge was straining to be released from his jeans. He thrust his hips into her, letting her feel how much he wanted her. She parted her legs to allow him to get closer. Not being able to move her hands she nipped his lip. He stopped and looked at her raising his eyebrow. “Please Robert” she begged him. He released her hands; Emma instantly went to his belt fumbling to get it und
