CHAPTER 12: PART 3

THE NEXT DAY

The next day felt different. Hopeful, so to say. We had been sitting in the lunch tables for what felt like forever. My eyes were scanning each and every one, taking in information. I was a good listener, just a weird one. No one noticed, but I could focus on so many things at a time. I was deep into multitasking.

“Yo, you good, you look dead tired, like you haven't slept for days?”

Suddenly I was taken by that simple act. It seemed she noticed how I would zone off from time to time.

‘Why is she nice to me?’

“Dude, you are my friend now, for better or worse” she shocked me more, like she read my mind.

‘She looks genuine enough to trust her...’

TWO YEARS LATER

“Hey…..you know you do that a lot”

“What?” I acted oblivious.

Cie just shrugged her shoulders and started walking.

It had been two years since I’ve known her, and she still asks what’s bothering me, every time I go silent.

‘I think it’s about time I tell her everything’
