LOGINAndre's POV
I was sitting behind my desk while I was listening to some letter which was delivered by one of the alphas I was battling with.
"So he wants to make his daughter the sacrificial lamb, well that's interesting," I said with a dark smile. I was not expecting that the alpha who cherished and always protected his daughter could actually give her up.
"Prepare an entourage, we will be visiting his pack," I instructed. I sank into my chair while different thoughts ran through my mind.
I had always heard rumors about his daughter not having a wolf but I had not verified it and I had no idea if it was true.
I closed my eyes to let my thoughts wander. I guess I will find out the truth tomorrow. I didn't go to my room and this was because I was haunted by dreams while in my room. No one knew about this except me and I was willing to let it stay that way.
The next day, I woke up and freshened up. I don't know why I was excited just by the fact that I will be visiting the pack and not just any other pack, a pack I was in a war with.
I threw those thoughts to the back of mind when my beta came in with that usual smirk of his. I raised my brows towards him and he only chuckled. Clearly, he had heard the news that I was about to get engaged.
"I would never have thought that the almighty alpha king would be getting married this way and not to someone he even knows. I heard that the girl is one without a wolf," he was able to say this in under a minute and I shook my head.
Alex, my beta is the only one who is able to act this way around me. I am only free when he is close to me and this is because we have been friends since kids so it was only paramount he became my beta.
But he became serious when it came to things of the pack.
"It's really not good to randomly believe rumors," I said to him as I fixed my cufflinks. No matter what, I didn't want to believe that my soon-to-be bride was a girl without a wolf. I wanted to believe the good in her.
"Well, believe whatever you want to, but those rumors wouldn't have made rounds if it wasn't true," Alex said to me while rolling his eyes which got me thinking but I shook my head immediately.
"Let's head out, we have to be on our way," I said to him and he nodded and we both made our way out.
The maids stopped what they were doing as they bowed in fear once we passed. Well not that I was complaining, but was I too scary?
This question is always on my mind. Yeah, I was aware that I was tagged a beast who killed for cause but it only happens if you had passed your boundaries.
And unfortunately, those alphas I killed were just too stubborn and I hate stubborn people. They irk me a lot. My plan was to unite the all packs and I rule over them. I only needed them to pledge allegiance but they really didn't know what was good for them which led them to their untimely death.
"What's on your mind?" Alex's words snapped me out of my thoughts once we got to the carriage.
I looked at him with a blank look as I really didn't get his question.
"You didn't hear what I asked," he said and I nodded. He only shook his head and I ignored him. If he was willing to ask the questions once more, then no problem.
"I asked what you were thinking about," he repeated but this time, more loudly.
"You don't need to know!" I cut him off immediately. This was something I hated even if it was from my best friend. I hate being questioned about my thoughts. It was something that didn't sit right with me.
"Fine," he mumbled a reply before he got onto the carriage.
I looked at him with no emotions in my eyes before I entered into the carriage also. I wasn't bothered. He of all people was quite aware that I hated being questioned. It was something I detested.
Once I entered the carriage, we set out. The journey took about three hours since his pack was not far from mine.
The ride was quite peaceful, though there were some rogues who wanted to attack but on seeing the insignia on the carriage, they retreated. Well, that was how powerful I was.
We finally reached Alpha Langford's pack. I nodded at the exterior used. He was quite immaculate in his style. We were welcomed by one of his servants who showed us to his dining room.
I felt displeased by the lack of respect.
"Why would he ask his servant to bring us in, are we that little in his sight?!" I heard Alex mumble and I let out a dry chuckle. He only aired my dissatisfaction.
All through the walk to the dining, I could feel different eyes on me and one thing I could distinctly feel from them is fear. They were scared of me and I wasn't being a narcissist but this was what I needed from them. For them to feel fear and also revere me.
We finally reached the dining room and Alex was the only one who was left to follow me. My guards had to stand outside of the dining area and I understood why he did so.
He was scared that I might cause an uproar which was not wrong but I was not in the mood for a war this time around, I was here to find a wife and possibly a mate and queen for my pack.
When we entered the dining room, we found Alpha Langford sitting at the head of the table. He immediately stood up and beheld us and I stopped myself from allowing a smirk to escape from my lips.
"It's great to have you in my humble pack," his old but steady voice rang out and I nodded coldly. I saw an emotion which I couldn't understand through his eyes and I paid more attention to him.
"Long live the king!" I suddenly heard collective greetings and that was when I realized he was not alone in the room. I noticed that there were men who were about the same age as the alpha and I concluded them to be his confidants or advisors.
"Please have your seat, my lovely daughter will be here soon," he said to me and I sat on the next available seat with Alex taking the seat next to me.
I noticed that his face glowed when he spoke about his daughter which made me wonder why he wanted to give her out. Was there something I was missing?
I asked myself this question and I frowned, though it was not , I hated feelings which are unknown. I always like to be in control of the way I feel.
"I'm also flattered that you honored this invitation and proposal of mine, it's not right that the two packs continue fighting," he said to me and I nodded in response while the maids busied themselves in serving the food.
"I guess that's the best your daughter can do, she should be honored that the alpha king is willing to get married to her," one of the old men spitefully mumbled but we could all hear him and I quickly faced him, wondering what he meant by that.
"Artemis, I will not sit here and watch you insult my daughter, don't forget that she's still the royal daughter," Langford didn't hesitate to defend his daughter which got me thinking on what was wrong.
But suddenly, I heard the door creak open and I guess I was not the only one because we all turned towards the source. I tried so hard to be less intimidating but I guess the years I have spent had made me this way because I stared at the intruder with an oppressive look causing the intruder to stiffen in her walk.
Zara’s POVThe world tore open. One moment I was reaching for Marcus, our bond sparking alive between us, fierce and blinding. The next, the altar split in two, and shadows erupted like a flood, swallowing us both.I screamed as the ground vanished beneath my knees. My body plummeted through cold nothingness, the force yanking me from breath, from light, from everything that was real. My fingers clawed at the air, desperate to find him.And then there. His hand, rough and bleeding, closing around mine.I gasped, clinging to him with everything I had. The darkness writhed, furious at our connection, trying to tear us apart. But Marcus’s grip only tightened, his claws digging into my skin.“I’ve got you,” he growled, his voice ragged, swallowed by the void. “Don’t let go, Zara. Don’t you dare let go.”The beast’s laughter echoed all around us, low and monstrous. “Hold onto your delusions, Alpha. In my realm, you are nothing. She is nothing. And together, you will drown.”The shadows sur
Marcus’s POVThe forest still burned, smoke strangling the air as the beast’s wings vanished into the night sky. I could still hear Zara’s fading screams echoing inside me through the bond, each note ripping another piece of me apart.I fell to my knees, my claws sinking into the dirt. Blood dripped from my mouth, my body trembling with exhaustion and rage. My vision swam, but all I saw was her being torn from my arms, helpless in the claws of that monster.“Zara…” I choked her name, the sound more a vow than a plea.Behind me, the fire-born staggered to his feet, flames dimming, his once-bright aura a mere flicker. He pressed a hand to his chest, his breaths ragged. “He’s taken her to the old ruins. That’s where it always begins… and where it must end.”His words cut through the haze, but before I could respond, another voice slid into the clearing. Cold. Smooth. Poisonous.“Listen to yourself, Marcus,” Nicholas said, stepping closer, his expression unreadable. “You crawl in the dirt
Marcus’s POVThe monster’s breath poured over us like ash, hot and suffocating, as it lowered its massive head. Crimson eyes glowed with a hunger I had never seen before, fixed on Zara as if she were the only being in existence.I spread my arms wider, claws extended, my body a flimsy shield against the nightmare looming before us. My ribs screamed with every breath, my blood still dripping from my wound, but none of that mattered. If the creature wanted her, it would have to step through me.Zara whimpered behind me, clutching the back of my shirt. Her heartbeat raced so fast through the bond I thought it might rip itself apart. The beast’s maw opened, curling smoke escaping its jagged teeth. Its voice rumbled like the collapse of mountains. “Step aside, wolf. She was never yours to claim.”My snarl cut through the heavy night. “She’s mine. And I will die before I let you take her.”A low, amused rumble rolled from the monster’s chest. “So be it.”Its claw lifted, shadow writhing alo
Marcus’s POVThe roar of the beast swallowed the night. The earth heaved as though the roots of the forest itself rebelled against the thing clawing its way out of the fissure. Flames danced wildly, bending under its power, and for the first time since the battle began, the fire-born faltered. The creature rose fully, its body immense, scaled in black fire that flickered without consuming it. Horns curled from its skull like obsidian crescents, and its eyes glowed a deep, crimson hunger. The air itself thickened, choking, pressing on every chest like an invisible hand.Hunters who had stood so rigidly moments ago broke rank, stumbling backward, fear etched into their disciplined faces. Rogues those not already dead scattered into the woods with yelps of terror. And yet, in the midst of chaos, my focus sharpened on only one thing.Zara.Her body trembled against me, her breaths uneven, her wide eyes fixed on the monster as if it recognized her no, as if it had risen for her.I gripped
Zara’s POVFlames ripped through the sky like a wound torn open in the heavens. The fire bled downward, splitting the night apart with searing light that washed over the battlefield. Rogues froze mid-attack. Hunters stumbled back, their disciplined formation scattering for the first time. The ground shook beneath us as sparks rained down, setting the treetops ablaze.Marcus shoved me behind him, his chest still bleeding from the hunter’s strike, but his golden eyes locked on the flames as if even he couldn’t decide if this was salvation or damnation.“What… what is that?” I whispered, my voice trembling.Nicholas tilted his head, lips curling into that serpent’s smile. “The past, catching up to you, little liar.”The flames twisted, forming a shape. At first, it was nothing but heat and light, but then it condensed, taking form tall, cloaked, wings of burning embers spreading wide enough to darken the clearing. The hunters dropped to one knee in unison. Even their leader lowered his h
Zara’s POV The arrow still shook in the altar stone. Its silver head caught the light and burned my eyes.No one moved. The rogues froze where they stood. Marcus stood tall again, his body bloody, his claws dripping red. Nicholas’s smile slipped a little, his eyes darting to the trees. Then they came.Shadows at first. Then shapes. Men and women in gray coats, sliding out of the forest like ghosts. Their steps made no sound. They held silver bows, knives, spears, all shining like death. Their faces were hidden by masks, cold and empty.Hunters.My whole body went cold.Marcus growled deep, a sound that rolled like thunder in his chest. “What are they doing here?”The rogue leader spat blood into the dirt, grinning through broken teeth. “The gods want blood today, Alpha. Yours.”The hunters spread wide, moving like a net, circling us in. Me, Marcus, Nicholas, and the rogues we were all caught. One of them stepped forward. He was tall, mask cut sharp, voice flat like steel.“Step away
