Chapter 48

I was packing Mum's breakfast to give her at the hospital, then take turns looking after Alice, when I heard a loud bang on the door. The person kept hitting it repeatedly, each knock harder than the last, echoing through the quiet house.

Who would be making such noise in the morning? I thought, wiping my hands on a towel as I walked to check it out. The housekeepers were off for the day, and Harry had taken the kids for a morning stroll.

The banging didn’t stop.

I opened the doo

Chapter 163 “What did they ever do that someone would want to kill them?” my voice cracked “They are just kids.” Drew suddenly stood up. His face was red with anger, and he was breathing hard. The next thing I knew, he walked toward the wall and slammed his fist against it. “Fuck!” I jerked in shock. Drew looked mad. He paced around, his hands running through his hair. He looked uncontrollable. “If I catch whoever did this, I’ll tear them apart,” he said through clenched teeth. “Drew,” I muttered. He turned to me and then looked at the wall he had just hit. He looked down at his fist. I could see he had gotten some scratches there because there was a little blood. “I shouldn’t have done that,” he stuttered. “Sorry… sorry.” I nodded at him. He walked back to his seat and started tapping his feet on the ground, rubbing his injured fist. “What kind of person does this?” my mum asked. The officer raised his hands. “Please, everyone, calm down.” “Please tell

  • After The Vows   Not an accident

Chapter 162 Alia’s POV “Police?” I repeated, staring at the man in front of me in confusion. Then my eyes moved to the two dressed cops beside him. “Yes, ma’am,” the man replied. “For what exactly?” I raised my brows, confused. “We have some questions to ask you.” I couldn’t understand why the police would suddenly come looking for me and want to ask me questions. Then I remembered the accident Maybe this was just a normal investigation because of what happened to the kids. “Okay,” I said slowly. “Can this wait until another time? I’m actually waiting for my son right now. Once he’s fine and we’re home, I can come to the station and answer whatever questions you have. I just don’t think I can do this right now.” The detective shook his head. “I’m afraid that’s not possible, ma’am. This is very important, especially for your safety and the safety of your children.” “Safety?” I frowned. “I don’t understand.” Drew stepped in. “What do you mean by safety? Are Alia and

  • After The Vows   The test results

Chapter 161 Alia’s POV The waiting was starting to drive me crazy. We had all moved outside Luna’s room. Alice had just returned after dropping Lily and Eddie at the daycare center, and we decided it was better to wait outside instead of disturbing Luna. The nurse had given her some medication earlier, and the doctor had told us she would be asleep for a long time. we all sat outside, waiting for the results in silence. Drew had explained to us how they had taken his sample and the that the doctor said in a few hours the result will be out , but we had been waiting for close to five hours since he returned. That didn’t look like a few hours to me. “You barely touched the sandwich Harry got for you to eat,” Alice said beside me. I looked down at the sandwich wrapped in paper beside me. I picked it up again and took a tiny bite from it, but just like earlier, I had no appetite. I dropped it back. Alice sighed.“You need food to be able to have the strength to fight for

  • After The Vows   The waiting period

Chapter 160 Drew’s POV The nurse removed the needle from my arm and pressed a piece of cotton against the spot to stop the blood gushing out. “This is the last sample, Mr. Drew,” she said. I nodded, barely paying attention to what she was saying. I barely felt any pain because right now, I couldn’t believe this day was finally here. For almost a year, I had wanted this day to come. The day Alia would finally agree to a DNA test and it would be proven that Liam and Luna were indeed my kids. I had imagined this moment so many times in my head. I had imagined feeling relieved, happy, and fulfilled, but right now, I couldn’t really explain how I felt. It was none of what I had thought. Instead, I felt nervous and terrified because this wasn’t how I wanted it to happen. I never wanted Liam to be lying unconscious in a hospital before I got the chance to find out if I was his father. I never wanted his life to be hanging by a thread just for me to finally get the answer I

Chapter 159The silence around us after my last statement was so heavy that if a needle should drop on the floor right now, it would be as loud as a trumpet.Everyone was staring at me as I had suddenly grown another head, and I honestly understood the shock on their faces. Never in my life had I seen my mum, Alice, and Harry this shocked.Alice was the first to move. She stepped closer to me and slowly raised her hand toward my forehead.“Alia…” she called softly. “Are you okay?” she asked, her eyes searching my face. “Like… are you really okay?”“I’m fine, Alice.”She looked at my face again before looking at my mum.“Are you sure?”“Yes, Alice. I’m fine. I’m in my right senses.” i nodded.“This doesn’t make sense,” my mum suddenly said. “What are you saying, Alia? What do you mean your ex-husband Liam’s father? You were not even married to him when you had the twins. You had them in high school, remember?”She then turned to the doctor, her eyes suddenly teary.“Please help my daugh

Chapter 158“A problem?” I stuttered, tucking a few strands of hair that were falling on my face.Oh, for fuck’s sake. What could be the problem now? I thought, staring at the doctor, who was looking at me with an unreadable expression. Then a thought came to my mind, and my heart sank instantly.Could it be that something had happened to my son?“No…” I shook my head quickly and held my head with both hands. “Don’t tell me something has happened to my son.”I felt myself losing my balance, and before I could stumble backwards, I felt Drew’s hand on my back.“Alia—”I ignored him and faced the doctor again.“What happened to Liam?” I asked, my voice already shaking. “Has his condition gotten worse?”The doctor quickly shook his head.“No, nothing has happened to him. His condition is still the same.”I breathed out loudly.“Oh, thank God.”For a moment, I had thought the worst had happened. I took a deep breath.“Then what is the problem?” I asked, looking at him again. “Why did you say
