Ruby woke up in her own bed, disoriented and panicky until her heart caught up with her brain and the familiar furniture confirmed she was home in her bedroom. The dreams were becoming increasingly intense; the creatures she ran and played with seemed so real, and she even found herself fantasising about four boys who attended Ruby's dream school. Ruby shook her head, as if four hot males would take in someone like her.

Getting up and out of bed, she wandered over to her floor-length mirror. Ruby looked at the young lady staring back at her, nothing out of the ordinary. Ruby likened her body to a racing horse. After years of tumbling, gymnastics, and Muay Thai kickboxing, she had a strong, slim, muscular build, an average-sized chest, and golden skin, which was weird because both parents looked like vampires, pale, pasty-skinned, and averse to the sun.

Her hair was black, mid-length, nothing to make a male's heart beat any faster; in fact, the only things that Ruby acknowledged as being worth noticing were her full rosy lips, dimples, and her amber eyes, with black rings around her irises. When Ruby smiled, all of those features arranged themselves nicely, her white teeth flashed, and people stared, which was strange, but Ruby didn't often smile in public, so it wasn't really an issue.

" Ruby, it's a school day, darling," Her father's deep baritone bellowed, and Ruby raced around, collecting the things she needed for a quick shower, before heading downstairs for breakfast.

Ruby's parents were both seated at the table when she walked down ten minutes later. Her mum was teary-eyed, clutching an open letter; her breakfast in front of her remained uneaten, and Ruby felt a sense of dread deep in the pit of her stomach.

" Sit down, there is something we need to talk about."

Smoothing over her A-line skirt and picking an invisible hair from her blue shirt, Ruby slowly sank into the seat.

Without saying a word, she was handed the letter.

"What's this about?"

Surprisingly, it was her father who answered. He stood by the fridge, a cup of coffee in his hands, as composed and unruffled as ever, then came to the table and sat down next to Ruby. For some reason, Ruby was more on edge; something was definitely going on behind all the whispering.

"Ruby, what do you know about The Alliance Elite Academy?

" It's a creepy private school at the edge of Ridgeline, where only the best of the best go?" Ruby answered as a chill crept through her body,  "Well, both your mother and I were students at the Academy, and the other day a letter came for you."

The letter was burning a hole in her flesh, and Ruby struggled to hold onto it. Her mother seemed to understand, placing her own hand on Ruby's, and the burning stopped; unfortunately, Ruby's curiosity didn't.

When she opened the letter, Ruby knew her life was about to change forever.

Dear Miss Hunter.

It is with great pride that we welcome you into Alliance Elite Academy. We have obtained your records from your previous school, and upon looking at them, we want to offer you a full scholarship to our Academy. Your previous school has already been notified that you will no longer be attending, and your presence will be required first thing Monday morning. Master Mossimus Galanodel has volunteered to be your guide and should arrive at 0800 to escort you on your first day. All uniform and stationery will be provided, and Mossimus has been instructed to take you immediately to the housing registrar to be issued with your keys to your apartment on campus. All necessary documents can be found at the office where you will go to meet the Academy's Headmaster.

We trust that you will enjoy your stay with us, as your parents and grandparents have before you.

Kind regards

Mrs Rowena Knight

  • Alliance Elite Academy   Beware the beast that hides behind beauty

unknown.I watched as she entered the grounds that would become her grave. So cheerful and innocent on the arm of the Elven King, everyone thinks she's the savior, but I know who she really is, and I would see her blood fall before the four unite with her. We, the keepers of the shadows, have been waiting in the dark for so long. This slip of a girl could not be allowed to close the barrier we've been slowly tearing down for centuries. One gun, four rounds, and Ruby would choose who goes where. Poor souls, they don't know we exist; they won't even see us coming.I have studied each of the four in detail. The wolf shifter who wears his heart on his sleeve like a big, fluffy toy is the easiest target for sure, as long as I can separate him from his pack. The eagle is cunning, not so easily fooled, and he shows caution, preferring his own company, a habit I need to break, and I can be very persuasive when I need to be. The Dragon shifter will be a challenge, centuries old and wise even b

  • Alliance Elite Academy   Meeting Wolfe

After declaring that he needed to attend to something else and gaining assurance from Ruby that she would stay in her apartment until he came and got her for the last period, Moss left, carefully closing Ruby's door.At first, she just stood there, letting her mind absorb the enormity of being here, without her parents. It was weird, but Ruby didn't feel lonely, at least not yet. Her apartment really was something out of her imagination, and she'd be happy just standing and looking at everything for the rest of the day, but last period was homeroom, where introductions would be made, and Ruby wanted to be prepared."Shower time." She announced to the air, jumping as an automatic voice responded, "Shower, on, temperature setting required." "Um," Ruby had no idea what temperature she had set her shower to, so she replied, "Normal, please."In a matter of minutes, the voice told her the water was ready, and the heated towel rail was on for her uniform and towel while she got clean. It wa

  • Alliance Elite Academy   Day 1

It was an apartment that looked like someone had gone through her mind, picking everything she loved, styles, textures, shapes, and designing the apartment of her dreams. Everything was perfect,"Pinch me.""You'll have to come to me for me to be able to do that," Moss chuckled. Turning around, Ruby found him still waiting at the entry; he didn't follow her into her new home. She furrowed her brow, oddly displeased. "Please tell me why you're still outside- you're not a vampire, are you?" She joked, and Moss chuckled, " No, definitely not a vampire, but it's school rules that nobody is allowed into anyone else's quarters unless invited. "Well, isn't that very forward-thinking?" Ruby grinned, "Come on in then."Ruby's composure lasted long enough for Moss to enter and close the door before she let out a loud scream of excitement, running around and touching everything from the coffee maker to the nearby capsules in all the different flavors she loved."This is mine, and that is mine,

  • Alliance Elite Academy   Caleb

She has spunk, my little mate. It was cruel of me to push an ecstasy spell on her. I overdid it a bit, and would be answerable to the school dean and the elf king as well, but I'm not sorry. I learned what I needed to, and Ruby Hunter wasn't strong enough to handle me. Why would they pair the four strongest bloodlines in the world with a human who can't even deflect a small love spell? I try to control my disappointment and put on the stupid uniform. It was tolerable to be in the Academy purely because of the decadent apartments we have, carefully tailored to each individual's rank and status, but the uniform was not flattering at all. My wings felt all cramped even though magic ensured the uniform fit around everyone's shapes and sizes, with a glamour making us all seem "normal."Talon, Wolfe, Storm, and I were in the top-tier housing; we took up the elite section of the Academy, and our apartments were arranged in a circle, with a vacant single apartment in the center. There was onl

  • Alliance Elite Academy   The start of the puzzle

This can't be real.Moss had arrived right on time this morning, in full Academy uniform, looking better than any male had a right to, and, not for the first time, she wondered how she had such a hot best friend. Saying goodbye to her parents was a blur, and Ruby couldn't remember much about the drive there, beyond the fact that she was flipping terrified.Driving to the outskirts of town and parking in the car park was when the real panic set in."I don't think I can do this," Ruby whispered, and Moss quickly took her hand. " It's all going to be okay, I promise," and a calmness started to seep into her bones. "You deserve the best in life, my friend, and I'm here to make sure that happens."Once they were out of the car, Ruby went to the boot to gather the large suitcases she would need to lug to the dorm she was put in, but sensing what she was doing, Moss grabbed her hands. " It's a private school for a reason, honey, we have people to do the mundane things while we grow our big b

  • Alliance Elite Academy   Talon and Storm

"Moss, I know you can hear me.""Fuck off out of my mind, bird boy.""How can you expect me to do that when you've bought the most beautiful prey to school for show and tell?""Do you want me to transport you to a different dimension, Talon? Don't bloody test me."Talon Greyson, the last eagle shifter in existence, smiled from his spot in the library. Having the powers of all eagle shifters who have ever lived made Talon one of the strongest prey-driven shifters at the Academy, but even he knew not to push Mossimus too far. The elven king was a real force on campus, and it was no surprise that he would be the guardian for Ruby Hunter, the one who was destined to save them all."Oh, great, can you tell Caleb and Wolfe to back the fuck off or Ruby will get suspicious? One's practically humping her leg, and the other one is looking all broody and shit. If she sees him in the air before she's ready, I don't know what she'll do.""Oh no, can do, sorry, amigo. I am in the library across cam
