CHAPTER 5: THE ENCOUNTER

CHAPTER 5: THE ENCOUNTER

One pound in front and the windshield broke into pieces. The man's eyes darted on me at first, then it went to Stan. I knew he wasn't human but how he stopped a speeding car with one hand still left me dumbfounded. I've seen different shades of violence, but something as extraordinary as that is not something I'm used to.

"What are you doing?" he calmly asked Stan, I don't know if that is his real name or if he gave me a fake one.

"Nothing, Steele."

Steele.

I should pin that name in my head from now on.

I looked at the two. Steele was so serious while Stan was just smirking at him. They obviously knew each other. Which means it is possible that they are of the same kind. But what exactly are they?

"You see, I'm just trying to have fun with an old friend."

"She isn't Anna, Stan. She has nothing to do with us so leave her alone."

Now I'm starting to get curious about who this Anna is and how she is connected to what is happening. It looks like she played a big role in their lives. And I was dragged in it because of what? Because we resemble each other? Have the same face?

"Get out," Steele said, looking straight to my eyes.

"You said she has nothing to do with us because she's not Anna, but why are you here and meddling with my business? I know you're not like this Steele. You don't care about people's lives. Why care now?"

"I know you're just doing this because you are thinking that she is Anna."

"If she's not Anna, then so what? I just want to have fun."

"I said get out, Amber."

I tried to open the door but it remained locked.

"I don't care if she's not Anna. She's mine."

Steele looked so calm yet his eyes showed how impatient he was. I felt like he wanted to strangle Stan at the very moment. But as much as I want to hear more of their bickers, I want to leave the car. Steele looks dangerous but Stan looks more wicked.

"Nothing is yours here, Stan."

"Try me."

Steele's eyes turned to glowing gold. In just a second, he managed to grab Stan out of the car and throw him somewhere. It happened too fast, my jaw dropped in shock.

I thought Stan would at least be injured because of the violent throw, but the next second, he was up and smiling at Steele. He was so fast and managed to push Steele in front of the car that smashed the car's hood. It was like they were fighting at the speed of light. I could hardly see what was happening.

They have the same built and almost the same height, so it was hard to know who has the upper hand.

My eyes narrowed when I saw how Steele gave Stan's face a strong punch. It did nothing to Stan though. He only smirked and attacked Steele aggressively again. As they continued, I saw how much damage their fight could do. Some parts of the road were smashed and the lampposts were totally wrecked in just a matter of seconds.

This is insanely out of the world, I must say.

While they were busy with their stuff, I went out of the car. I don't want to be smashed along with it when one of them is thrown in the car again.

"Stop acting like a child, Stan."

Stan laughed, now leaning on the smashed car while Steele was standing close.

"I'm not acting like a child here, Steele. Like I said, I just want to have fun. Can't I have fun with her? She's just a nobody in your life, so why bother?"

"She's a nobody but she is still a human."

"Oh, so you are acting kind now?"

Stan raised a brow, smirking. But his eyes showed nothing but wrath.

"Or maybe because she has Anna's face? You liked her, right? You liked her even she was Simon's mate. You wanted her. How can you betray our brother like that, huh?"

Our brother.

They are brothers.

That was the last thing I expected.

Now I guess I have a piece of the puzzle. They are brothers, but this Simon, is also their brother. And something must have happened in the past, with Anna involved, that drifted them apart. Stan hates Steele. It's very evident in his eyes even when he's smiling.

But another detail caught my attention. Stan mentioned Anna was Simon's mate. Which means they were lovers, but Steele liked Anna and wanted him for himself? But he has been searching for her, and even mistook the young me as her, so I must be right. He's on the search for Anna's reincarnation because she's probably dead. Was she also like them? But why did she die? And where is Simon?

"She was a friend, Stan."

"A friend," Stan nodded. "Sure. But you wanted her for your own, right? You are claiming to be noble but you don't honor the rules yourself. Desiring someone mated is a sin, of course you knew, but you didn't care."

"I never wanted her that way," Steele said silently.

Stan laughed, shaking his head. "As expected from you. You never accept your mistakes."

Why do I feel like Stan's anger is not really coming from the love triangle between Steele and Simon? It feels like he holds a grudge against Steele because of something deep, and this is just his way of pissing him off.

"And you never accept truths from me."

I don't know if I should take my exit now that the atmosphere is a little calmer than earlier, but I want to talk to Steele. I have this feeling that he can be the key to the mystery of the plane crash. I should try my luck.

Stan smirked and turned his head to me.

"Miss Detective, you want to know who killed the two students?" He pointed Steele with a nod.

"It's him. He killed them."

My gaze drifted to Steele.

I had this feeling that it wasn't done by a human. I just didn't expect it was him. But for what reason?

"Why?" I asked.

"He kills anyone without a reason," Stan butt in. Steele glared at him.

"Did you really kill them?"

Steele only looked at me. As if he knew he wasn't obliged to answer. Like he doesn't care what I think of him because I'm nothing relevant in the first place.

An approaching car made me look. It stopped in front of us. I was thinking of how they will explain this mess in the middle of the road to the passerby, when the car's door opened and a woman in a flaming red long dress and black heels went out.

The first thing she did was to look at me.

Her cat eyes narrowed.

Then she looked at the surroundings. She smirked.

"I was late, huh? I didn't see the fun."

"Fighting with that asshole isn't fun, Raven. Take him with you," Steele said.

Raven.

Another name. How many are there in their kind, anyway? I better not be surprised if someone else shows up.

"You are the asshole between us," Stan retorted.

Raven looked at me, brow was up.

"Is it her? Anna?"

"No, she's not her," Steele answered with certainty.

"I guess they are related by blood or something. She looks exactly like her."

Looks exactly like her.

But it's impossible I'm her. Steele confirmed it himself. Thankfully that is the case because I don't want to involve myself with them. I just want to talk to Steele about my parents' death. That's all.
