It wasn’t a huge attack, when the alarms had gone off, I was worried.

I look around me and see that we don’t have any major casualties. Relief floods through me and it’s time for me to go to Amelia and explain the alarm that had sounded.

That alarm only sounds when we are concerned about a huge attack, and we need everyone to get to safety immediately. It wasn’t as bad as the patrol had thought and the battle was over with quickly.

I run back to the packhouse and open the safe house door and a crowd of women, children, and elderly exit. I see Maggie and I smile at her as I ask, “Where’s Amelia?”

Her eyebrows furrow with confusion as she says, “Amelia never came here.”

My heart jumps to my throat and I stutter as I ask, “Wh-what do you mean she never came here? I told her to come here and that you would be here.”

I don’t give her a chance to respond before I start running to the training spot where Amelia had been at. As I run over there I yell, “Amelia! Amelia, answer me!”
