Synopsis
Elaine is a twenty-five year old woman who has been married to a mob boss since the day she turned eighteen as an alliance for her family. Damitri was a loving and caring husband always doting on Elaine until a horrible accident turns him into a monster. Someone close to Damitri will betray him by helping Elaine escape after he put her in a coma for five weeks. Meanwhile three thousand miles away, Tristan, an Aplha with a reputation that makes most grown men shake in their boots is growing restless. He does not have his mate and is not sure when he will meet her. Even though his pack has been thriving since the great war he is feeling more lonely than ever. When an unexpected human comes onto pack territory looking to buy a cabin deep within the forest Colt asks Tristan to come in to approve the purchase. As soon as he opens the door his wolf Hades stirs and is practically jumping up and down in his mind screaming 'Mate! Mate! Mate!" In the same moment three hundred miles south of where she is another Alpha will sense his mate as his own. They knew this day was coming but will he be able to share her with another as they promised? Tristan knows he must take things slow with Elaine since she is human but when bounty hunters and those wanting his mate come for her he will need to make a drastic decision. Chapter 1 - What is Happening?

大きな金属音が早朝の工場に響き渡った。 周囲には油の焼ける匂いと、鉄粉の混じった熱気が漂っている。土井琴葉（どい・ことは）にとって、それらは馴染み深い香りだった。
この熱気の中に身を置いていると、エンジニアとしての仕事に誇りを感じる。琴葉はこの工場の経営企業、土井精機の社長令嬢だ。
令嬢といっても、彼女は現場主義。次期経営者として現在の副社長として、毎日忙しく働いている。各種の設計が琴葉の本来の仕事だが、こうして工場の前線に出るのもいとわない。
「おい、お嬢！ もうよせ。そいつは寿命だよ」
工場のベテラン職人が、血相を変えて駆け寄ってくる。
琴葉は作業着の袖で額の汗を乱暴にぬぐうと、スパナを握り直した。頬が油で汚れるのも構わない。猫を思わせる大きなツリ目を細めて、ニヤリと笑った。
「寿命なんて誰が決めたの？ まだ心臓は動いてる」
「異音がしてるじゃねえか。下手すりゃ主軸がイカれるぞ。もう業者を呼ぼう、な？」
「業者を呼ぶお金があったら、新しいバイトを雇うわ」
軽口を叩きながら、琴葉は機械に耳を押し当てた。
駆動音の中に微かなリズムの乱れを聞き分ける。 ここだ。（機嫌なおしてよ。あんたに倒れられたら、今月の納期が吹っ飛ぶんだから）
タイミングを見極め、琴葉はボルトを締め上げた。キィン、と高い音が一つ。
次の瞬間、悲鳴を上げていたマシンが低い駆動音へと変わる。ヴォォン……と、まるで猫が喉を鳴らすような、安定した重低音だ。「……嘘だろ」
職人が口をあんぐりと開けている。
琴葉は満足げに機械のボディをぽんと叩いた。「ほらね。この子は、まだ働けるって言ってる」
指先は油で真っ黒だが、この感触こそが土井精機を支えている証だ。
（小さいけれど、この工場は生きている。そして、その心臓を動かしているのは私）
そんな自負と共に、琴葉は笑みを浮かべた。
◇ しかし、達成感は長くは続かなかった。 事務所に戻った琴葉を待っていたのは、ひどく冷たい現実だった。 経理担当の社員が、真っ青に青ざめた顔で立っている。「副社長……」
「どうしたの、そんな顔して。銀行がまた嫌味でも言ってきた？」
琴葉は冷蔵庫から麦茶を取り出し、コップに注いだ。
「いえ……その、先ほど連絡がありまして」
経理担当者の声は、かき消えそうなほど細い。
「S自動車から、来月以降の受注を停止すると」
カラン。コップの中の氷が、乾いた音を立てた。
S自動車は、土井精機の最も大口の取引先だ。
大口どころか売上のほとんど依存していると言ってもいい。それが受注停止などと。
琴葉はゆっくりと麦茶を飲み干して机に向かう。
「……理由は？」
「海外移転だそうです。コスト削減のため、部品調達も現地化すると」
「なるほどね」
琴葉は電卓を引き寄せて、勢いよく叩き始めた。
タタタッ、タターン。軽快なリズムとは裏腹に、液晶画面に表示される数字は無慈悲だった。元から土井精機の業績は悪化しており、メインバンクからの融資は既に打ち切られている。
頼みの綱だった大口取引先が消えれば、資金繰りはどうなる？ 計算するまでもない。1ヶ月も持たない。（詰んだ）
琴葉の頭の中で、将棋の駒が音を立てて崩れ落ちるイメージが浮かぶ。
机の上には、未払いの請求書の山が積まれている。それらはまるで、会社の終わりを告げる墓標のように見えた。
