Chapter 7

After Barry told them the truth about their parents' death, Ethan became too eager to learn everything about hunting supernatural creatures. He vocally expressed his intention to get revenge for their parents. Andra fears that the anger that her brother feels would eat from the inside eventually. But, she can't blame him. They were forced to grow up with their parents, wondering what really happened to them. Now that they know the truth, instead of making things easy, they felt the pain all over again.

"Your parents saved a lot of lives. They were the definition of perfect hunters. In our line of work, we don't get paid, we don't get thanked, but the truth that we get to save many people is more than enough to keep us going. I learned that from your parents." Barry continued his story about their parents.

"I want to hunt this Prince of hell. I want to kill him, for our parents." Ethan said. Barry and Andra can see his jaw clenching as he stared at the weapons displayed in front of them.

"You can't operate in anger, Ethan. It will get you killed, and that is not what your parents would have wanted. If you want to be a hunter, do it for the right reasons, or else, it's pointless." Barry explained.

"Uncle Barry is right, Ethan. If we are going to do this, we need to do it right. In a way that Mom and Dad would be proud of us. We have to continue their legacy in the right way" Andra added.

"I'm sorry, you guys are right." Ethan conceded.

"Let's start your training now. It's better to start with the basics." Barry announced.

Soon after, Barry took every book that talks about all the supernatural creature in the world. As the first part of their training, he required them to read through all those books and memorize the important indicators of what is what. As the teenager, Ethan is hooked on those books. It's like some kind of a porn for a boy his age. But for Andra, knowing that every monsters in their worst nightmares exist in reality is freaking her out.

"Wait, what are these?" Ethan asked out nowhere. "Here, look." Barry looked the page he showed him.

"Oh, those are the furies. Nasty creatures that comes after those who got away from justice. Contrary to public knowledge, furies needs to be summoned. They can't just hunt down human and kill them. Thousands of years ago, Olympian gods and goddesses used furies as their messenger of justice. Once a human was deemed guilty in the eyes if the gods and goddesses, furies can kill that Hunan freely. Until their connection to the gods became stronger that they no longer need the gods to kill humans. Zeus decided to sever their connection to the gods. Since then, furies had to be summoned." Barry explained.

"It means even the gods and goddesses that we've studied in school are all true as well?" Andra then asked.

"Yes, sweetheart. Every last of them."

-------------------------------------

After two hours of reading, Ethan found another book, well, it's more like a register. A log book of all the connections their parents have. It was a list of people, with their contact numbers, and what looks like their addresses.

The one thing that caught his attention are the remarks beside each names. There are names with the remarks that says dead, and what looks to be the reason. There's this one name: Michael Carlson - dead; Ethan enrolled in grade school. Another name: Timothy Smith - dead; Andra's prom night.

"Those are the names of the people who protected you since you two were born, especially after your parents died. They all came from father's connection. Members of the family where he came from. You may not know your relatives, but they all know you. They are around, somewhere. You might even have met them, who knows." Barry explained.

"All these people sacrificed their lives for us?" Ethan asked, shocked because of another revelation.

"That is how a family of hunters work. Once you take an oath of fealty, you should be willing to kill and die for the family you're serving." Barry explained.

"What about this, Uncle?" Andra asked. She also found another book. It has a seal of pentagram with a name below it. The name says The Brotherhood.

"That's a worldwide organization of hunters. Well-trained, well-equipped, well-educated hunters that stretched for four hundred years." Barry answered.

After reading all the books that Barry gave them, Andra and Ethan arranged their weaponry. Barry required them to group everything according to their use. He wanted to test their memory, to see if how fast they memorize which weapon is used for which creature.

He can't help but feel proud for the two of them. They were able to group the weapons correctly even without referencing to the books they read earlier. Andra and Ethan are natural when it comes to the things related to hunted. It was part of being born from a family of magically blessed hunters.

"Very good. Now, come here."

Barry showed them a huge shelf with different other kinds of weird stuff. He waited form them to get closer for them to see the ornaments clearly. Those were collected by Lori and Andy over the years.

"Now, I need you to tell me which of these are dark objects that can be used to kill a human being." Barry commanded.

He knew that there is no way that Ethan would be able to do what he asked. Getting the aura from magical things such dark objects takes a certain kind of ability. Something that Ethan does not possessed. After only a minute, Andra stepped forward and started grouping the dark objects he requested.

"Is she correct?" Ethan asked, and Barry nodded as a response. "How did—how did she even do that?"

"That is because your big sister is like your Auntie Helga. She has a special skill that she inherited from the female side of the family."
