Chapter 6

Ethan and Andra both sat down on the couch and waited for Barry to start explaining, instead, he walk to the left side of the room. The siblings watched him trace his fingers, and pressed something. They all heard a whooshing sound before the wall slid sideway.

"Holy sh*t!" Ethan exclaimed.

"What in the world is that?" That's Andra's expression.

The two of them were both amazed, but at the same time, they also felt terrified. All types of guns, blades and medieval weapons are in display. If not with all those other weird stuff, they would have thought that their parents used to be a part of a high-level government security agency, or an organization of assassins.

"This, my lovelies, is your parents' real life, our real life." Barry started. "You see these? All these books, all these weapons, especially these medieval ones, has been passed down through generations in your family."

"Are you saying that our family is some kind of assassins?" Andra asked, more confused than ever.

"No, sweetheart. You descended from a family of hunters. Not just any kind of hunters. We hunt supernatural creatures that causes havoc in different places all over the world."

"Hunters of the supernatural?" Ethan asked, trying to confirm what he heard.

"What do mean by that, Uncle Barry?" Andra also asked.

"Every creature in old folklores, myths, legends, and your worst nightmare is true. They go bad, we hunt them. Well, except from poltergeists, angry spirits are nasty little buggers. They are naturally bad, so we naturally hunt them, always."

"Polter–what the hell was that?" Ethan exclaimed.

"I know that since you solved the Solomon Case, you've been wondering how did you even saw his ghost. You two never experienced that, not even in your childhood. That is because your parents had a witch put a spell on the two of you, a protection spell. They had the spell bound to their life force. In that way, as long as their alive, your skills will stay dormant."

"I don't understand any of this, Uncle." Andra stated after Barry's brief storytelling.

"The two of you are descended from the bloodline of the first hunters. The blood that runs to your veins is blessed a very powerful witch three thousand years ago. That's why you were able to track down that paw print in Valencia despite the darkness, Andra. Your family was blessed with the skills, the strength, and the senses that fits to be the perfect hunter. And, everything in this room is what your ancestors used since the beginning of time."

Ethan looked more fascinated that Andra. Of course, he's the younger one, and his imagination is still a little bit more colorful than his sister. He looked at everything, from the guns, the blades, the bottles of weird liquids, even the herbs that were surprisingly still in good health.

Andra on the other side looked like she discovered there's a bomb planted on her brain. She cannot believe that the parents she so loved and respected were magical hunters, and not only that, they came from a long line of hunters. It's one thing to know that you came from a family that has a legacy, but it's another to know that your family is basically killing supernatural beings.

"Uncle, you said that once we learn the truth, our lives will change?" That's the question that pops up in Andra's mind.

"Yes, now that you know the truth, and you have to take the responsibility of being a hunter. This is not going to be a joke, and you have to take this seriously. The job of being a hunter is a very dangerous one. I nee—"

"Wait, Uncle, you're talking like all of a sudden, we will turn into hunters just because you said so. We don't even know the first thing about hunting." Andra interrupted.

"Because, that's exactly what's going to happen. You don't have a choice, not anymore. You're not like normal people. Your skills are already starting to show, and with that, the responsibility of saving people. You're father went through this at a very young age. But, Lori, she's like me. She only became a hunter after her parents were slaughtered by a rogue werewolf. She never wanted the two of you to live the life of a hunter. For me, and for your father, this is heritage, your legacy."

"If Dad wanted us to continue the DuMonte legacy, why didn't he tell us the truth?" Andra then asked.

"Because your father's love for your mother outweighed his sense of honoring his family's legacy. Also, your last name is DuMonte, it's Chasseur. French word for hunter. Your father changed his last name before they got married to honor your mother's request of a normal life for the two of you. They did everything they could to hide from your father's family."

"That's why we never met any relatives?" Ethan confirmed.

"That's right, Ethan. Now, you can turn your back on the truth, but you can never run from it. Or, you will accept it and face it head on. It's your choice. But, there's no changing the truth. You came from a very long line of magically blessed hunters. You have a responsibility in this world."

Ethan looked at his sister who's staring at the weird stuff displayed all over the underground room. Even Ethan cannot believe that all those things exists beneath the house where they grew up. It's like they are in another world. Both amazing and terrifying.

"Andra, I think Uncle Barry's right. If this is our parents' life, then it's our life too." Ethan said to his older sister.

"How did our parents die?" Both Barry and Ethan were shocked with her tone. Barry fell silent, thinking if he will answer Andra's question.

"Your parents were killed by demons. We hunted a prince of hell that they tracked down for almost a year, we all thought that the binding sigil they found was enough to trap the son of a b*tch. But, no, it got lose. The Prince of hell got your mother scent. They were able to hide for awhile, but there's really no hiding from that kind of demon."

Andra listened to every word that their Uncle Barry said. That's when she realized that Ethan is right. They can't turn their back on the life that their parents left behind. They need to continue their family's legacy.

"When can we start our training?" Andra asked, and it made Ethan and Barry smile.
