Chapter 9

They've all watched the news last night. A college student went missing. The last time she was seen was while she's walking her way home near the university. Barry used this to teach them how to find clues on what they are dealing with, and how somehow gather information from the police.

Ethan is the enjoying the second part of their training because it includes learning how to hack on different government database, and other kinds of websites. Andra enjoys field investigation more. Their Uncle Barry is in awe as he witness how good she is when it comes to finding evidence and clues.

"Good job, Andra! Now, what do you think are we hunting?" Barry asked.

"Well, based on what we have, and the details we have from the lores, I think it's a vampire." She responded.

"Nice one, sis." Ethan also praised her.

"You, Ethan? What do you have for us?" Barry then asked him.

"Well, I hacked into the county's traffic cameras. The only thing I saw unusual is this."

He show them the feed of a man walking three hundred yards from where the woman was abducted, and then the feed where he grabbed the woman two seconds later. Andra was shocked by how fast a vampire can actually move. It only took a matter of seconds for him to reach the gap between him and the woman.

"How in the world are going to kill or even catch that thing?" She exclaimed with widened eyes. Ethan has the same question in mind.

"Well, one thing that vampires have is their cockiness. No matter how smart the vampire could be, cockiness is still it's undoing. If you're up to it, Andra, I want to be the bait. You, Ethan, will be the sniper." He then said.

"What? Uncle, are you out of your mind? You want my sister to be the bait? No! Absolutely not!" He angrily refused.

"Ethan, I think—I think Uncle Barry's right. We have to do what's necessary, or else, this vampire is going a whole lot more. Their blood will be on our hands." Andra agreed to their Uncle and that shocked Ethan badly.

"You are out of your mind, too! No! I won't let you!" The young man said.

"This is the only way that we could take the vampire down. Just as your sister said, if we will not take care of this vampire now, then a lot of people are going to die." Barry added.

"But, I don't want put her life in danger." Ethan insisted.

"Welcome to the life of being a hunter, Ethan. Your life will always be in danger. The only thing you can do is chose to go out meaningfully." Their uncle added.

"Damn it!" He exclaimed.

No matter how hard he disagreed, what they are saying makes more sense. It is too selfish if he would only think about his sisters. Their town is in danger as long as that vampire is alive, and they have to take him down.

-----------------------------

There's a storm coming according to the weather report. The night sky is dark with heavy clouds, and no star is present. Lightning strike and thunderstorms can be seen from afar. Wind is starting to blow heavily, and it's making the trees dance in a tuneless music.

A woman in red dress is walking her way home. She's busy checking her bag for something, that she didn't even noticed the man standing at the dark alley she passed by. The man didn't even move, but kept staring at her until she took a left turn. In just a blink of an eye, the man disappeared.

"Good evening." The woman screamed out of shock when a man appeared in front of her. The next thing she know, she's somewhere else already.

Tears started running down her cheeks as soon as she realized that she's in danger. Everything she sees around her looks old and covered in dust. The only thing that gave her a clue of her location is the old signage she saw at the corner. Soul Factory at the edge of Soul County River.

"You are so beautiful." A low husky voice said from the dark. The woman swallowed hard. Sweat beads appeared all over her face.

"Who are you? What do you want?" She asked in a trembling voice.

"My name is Lucas, and I'm a vampire." The man confidently responded.

"What? A vamp—a vampire? What are you, nuts?"

"That's right, you people no longer believes. When I turned, vampires are running amok and people are either hiding or trying to hunt us. Now, heh! That's it's easier for something like me to hunt something like you."

"You're crazy! Just let me go, please! I won't call the cops! I won't say anything, I promise! Please!"

"No, honey. You're not going anywhere, because I'm going to eat you. I am going drain your blood, every ounce of it."

She knows that the man is still a feet away from her, and he's not moving. The woman can feel his stares piercing beside her. That's until she felt the man mouth on her neck. She screamed at the top of her lungs until she heard a gunshot.

"Andra! Are you okay?" Ethan screamed from the roof bracket he used to hide himself.

"Yeah, I'm fine!" She responded.

"Are you sure? Are you hurt?" Her little brother is already climbing down the post.

"No, I'm okay!"

Barry appeared from the entrance of the factory. He's holding a high powered gun on the other hand, and flashlight in the other. Ethan and him run towards Andra to free her from the ropes that bound her to the chair.

"Are you okay, Andra? He asked her.

"Yes, Uncle, I'm fine." She replied.

"Good, come on. Let's get rid of the body."

When she turned around, the vampire's body is already burning. According to their parents' books, wooden stake to the heart is how you can kill a vampire. But, their family since then engineered a way to kill vampires using small weapon, wooden bullets to the heart. Right size, right angle, and the vampire will die as fast as when it got staked in the heart.
