Chapter 10

A two-hundred-year-old vampire. That was the first thing they hunted, and none off them can deny that it felt good. Especially when they think about all the lives they saved. They continuously trained under their Uncle Barry's supervision while Ethan continued his studies. Everyday, when he gets home, he will proceed to their parents' secret room to study.

Andra on the other hand, she spends most of her day training and studying everything in the hidden room. In just a few days, she already have a full understanding on how to do exorcism, chant spells for protection, summoning, and locating. Every day that passes by, she became more and more curious about her father's side of the family.

"Andra, how's your business?" Uncle Barry asked as soon as he entered the hidden room.

"It's doing well, Uncle. Cherry is doing a great job handling everything." She responded.

"That book is about your father's ancestry, right?"

"Yes, Uncle. Do you know that one of my father's ancestors was a part of the Catholic crusaders who fought the Illuminati?"

"Well, I won't be shocked. Your father's side of the family has participated in many huge events throughout history. Many of the things you see here are from those historical events."

"And, according to this, the first hunter wasn't just blessed by the witch, he married the witch."

"That's right. That's why the women in your family has gifts. I think you have that too, but who knows? I'll prepare us some food. I know that nothing will be able to pull you away from your studies." Barry left her alone to go to the kitchen.

Her curiosity is one of the things that she hates about herself. When there's something bothering her, she will do everything she can to know more about it. She loves learning new things, and uncovering secrets. And now that she knows more about her lineage, she wants to understand everything.

"Book of Demonology?"

She found a book hidden behind a pile of old journals. From the look of it, someone hid the book intentionally. It was thick and old, and dusty. As she flipped through the pages, she saw something that caught her attention.

"Experiment? Success?"

Andra scanned through the pages as fast as she could, trying to find anything that relates to the words she saw. When she didn't find anything else, she tried to search for other books. Anything that says demon in it, but she found nothing.

"What the hell? Nothing else? What does this mean?" She asked herself loudly.

"Andra? You okay?" When she heard her Uncle Barry, she turned around with her frustrated look. Barry is holding a tray of food, with his confused look.

"Do you know anything about this?" She asked directly. Andra witnessed as her uncle's forehead creased, but for some reason, she doesn't believe his reaction.

"No, this is the first time that I've seen book, sweetheart."

"Oh, okay."

Even though she doesn't believe him, Andra chose not to say anything. As she learn more about her family, she also learn to realize that it's better to ask questions when she already found out about the truth. In that way, their uncle will no longer have a reason to lie.

----------------------------

Six in the evening, Andra decided to visit her shop. Cherry is one of her high school friend, and when she decided to open a business, she's the first one that came to her mind. She remembered that Cherry's died a few months back, and she's been struggling since.

Andra remembered Cherry as the pretty girl, who was never noticed in school. She used to wear thick glasses and braces, and it hides her beautiful eyes and smile. Their cheerleading squad loves to make fun of her looks, and Andra was always the one to stand up for her. She grew up confident because of the help of her mother, and their family status in town.

"Hey, Cherry. Are you okay?" Her store manager was sitting in a corner, hiding herself as she cries so hard. "What happened?"

"Tom–he's seeing Althea." Cherry said in between her sobs.

"Jerk!" Andra exclaimed. She felt angry at Tom. He was one of the campus crush back in high school, and she thought that growing up will help him learn to change.

"I don't understand. I did everything for him. Why isn't that enough? Why am I not enough?

"Of course, you are enough. Tom is an idiot, okay? You don't have to waste your tears over someone like him. You're smart, you're beautiful, and you're enough. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, okay? Besides, they deserve each other. Althea is dating that rich guy from Moon Valley. I saw them together yesterday. He doesn't deserve you, okay?"

"You've always been nice to me, Andra. Thank you so much."

"Come on. Let's close the shop."

After closing up, Andra waited until Cherry called her cab. She decided to take a walk before going home to clear her mind. Immediately after helping her store manager calm down, the thought of those words she found out came back to her mind. Not being able to find anything about it made her restless.

"Hey! Let go of me!" As soon as passed by a dark alley, someone grabbed Andra from behind. She waited and sensed if this is a supernatural creature, and when she realized that it was only a human, she quickly shifted her feet and flipped the man using the judo throw that Uncle Barry thought her. Using the back of his fist, she knocked the man unconscious.

At the sheriff station, most of the officers are sitting at their desk. It was a lazy day for all of them. Aside from some property disturbances, nothing serious happened around town. That's until the door opened with Andra DuMonte entering the station while dragging an unconscious man twice her size.

"Andra? What happened?" The sheriff asked.

"This man tried to grabbed me, and do God knows what to me."

"Damn, Andra. You knocked him out cold." Officer Glendale exclaimed with his amused look.

"I'm taking martial arts classes." She replied. "So, sheriff, I trust that you can take this from here?"

"Yes of course. Glendale, book him. Thanks, Andra."

Since everyone was busy about the man she brought at the station, no one remembered the local reporter who's dating one of the sheriff's officer. She filmed everything from when Andra entered the station until she left. And by tomorrow morning, Andra will be dubbed as a local superwoman.
