Chapter 9 - Trust Earned.

Their intense deadly gazes glanced around the room in search of something or rather someone, they were definitely after the Alpha King's body.

I stood my guard and spread out one of my arms which acted as a shield to block their views.

Their gazes looked beyond me and when they saw the body behind me, each of them let out a terribly loud howl, they were about to take their steps into the room, I stretched out my other arms and stood before the bed.

“Don't even think about it.” I seethed.

If they think I did stand by and do nothing and just watch them take my prey then they should think again…. I am never letting that happen.

Alpha King Alaric would only die by my own hands, not any other.

They howled again… this time, the howls were a warning to me, they must have perceived that I heard no scent and assumed I am a weak Omega just like everyone does.

They expected me to scurry away too but that's never going to happen, not when my plan was already in motion, not when my prey was already in my reach.

I stood my ground not moving an inch as expected, the three fierce looking rogues halted, their heads pushed forward, their noses in the air, sniffing it.

I smirked.

They must be trying to double check on my scent or probably trying to find what fragrance my confidence is made of because no Omega in their right mind would still be standing in front of these three.

Lucky them.

One of the rogues tilted its head to the side, almost as if asking me, Who the hell are you?

The one in the middle seemed to be their leader. He looked fiercer than the other two, his eyes fixed on me as he slowly lifted his head.

Then he began stamping his foot against the ground, alongside his horrifying growling.

My eyes widened. I knew what that meant. He was about to attack.

Before he could lunge, my hand shot toward the table beside me. I grabbed the knives I had been using to cut herbs and bandages and threw them, relying on the precision I had learned over time.

The first knife sliced through the side of one of the rogues.

He let out an angry growl before he stumbled backwards. He wasn't ready to receive that hit from a supposed harmless Omega.

The second struck another in the foot, sending him crashing to the ground with a howl of pain.

I threw the last one with more steadiness than the other two, it flew straight toward the leader.

It landed… right in one of his eyes.

I smiled. A fucking perfect hit.

He staggered backwards with a furious cry, clawing at his face.

I barely had time to breathe before a sharp pain tore through my arm, something sharp had cut through my cloth and sliced my skin.

I looked down at my arm to see that my cloth was already soaked with blood.

I stared at the ground to see the knife one of the rogues had thrown.

“Ah!” I winced, staggering back. I hadn't even noticed that one of the rogues was holding a knife. It must have been the one who had tried to lunge at me.

“Save the Alpha King!” Loud yells suddenly erupted from outside.

Running footsteps thundered toward the room, but they came to an abrupt stop when the soldiers saw the three injured rogues.

They quickly overpowered the two who were still trying to get up and dragged them outside.

Beta Ilan, Gemma Garvin, and two other soldiers stepped into the room, their eyes sweeping across every corner.

The three Luna Queens came out from hiding, the Gemma went to them, “My ladies, are you hurt?”

“No.” They all chorused with relief.

“But, the Omega-” Luna Queen Nyx was saying when I felt the Beta before me, he had my injured arm gently.

“You are hurt.” He said more to himself than to me.

“She stood up against the rogues, throwing things at them. She kept us safe in the way she could.” Luna Queen Nyx completed, her tone gentle and with gratitude.

I bowed to her.

The healer rushed into the room, his face enveloped his fear, “Is the Alpha King’s body–” He let out a sigh of relief seeing that the body was intact.

“Elder Sage, she is bleeding.” Beta Ilan said.

Immediately, the healer rushed to my side, “Oh dear.” He pointed me to sit on the bed beside the Alpha King's body which I obeyed but as he was about to begin treatment, he paused and stared at me.

“Uhmm…. I would have to cut off some of your clothes.” He started, “From this,” he pointed to my shoulder, “to this place.” He stopped at my wrist.

I stared up at him, confused on why that should matter, I was about to ask him to go on when the Beta spoke.

“That won't be appropriate, considering she is veiled to the goddess.”

Oh. I pressed my lips shut. Thank the moon I had hesitated before I ruined my cover.

I hurried to my feet and bowed, “I apologize, that's true.”

“No trouble, dear child. Here,” The healer gave me his basket which was filled with what I could get myself treated with, “You can have your friends do it.“

I took the basket from him and bowed.

As I walked out of the room, I heard Luna Queen Nyx asked, “She is veiled to the goddess? Isn't that the ancient practice of devotion and consecration to the moon goddess?”

“Yes, your grace.” This time it was Beta Ilan that answered, and to my suprise, he didn't sound suspicious or unsure as he would before.

Well… it seems I just earned Beta Ilan Yonimas’ trust.

Underneath my veil, I smiled.

“What?!” Azura yelled in surprise before placing both her hands over her mouth when Sorya gave her a pointed look.

The three of us were at the back of the yard, I was seated while Sorya treated my wound and Azura supplied her what was in the basket.

“Keep your voice down, Azure.” Sorya said as she pressed the piece of cloth she already soaked in herbs into my arm.

“I apologize. I am just surprised that my Queen could win the scary Beta's trust that fast.”

I smiled, “I am as surprised as you, Azu.”

“Well, I guess that's a good thing. He would finally stop being suspicious of you and then we don't have to bother about him sneaking around about you.” Sorya cleaned the excess water from my arm. She then gestured to Azura who took the leave-woven fan and began to fan my arm, so it could dry out the dampness.

“Now that the Beta seems to trust you, what next?” Azura asked as she stepped aside and then Sorya began with wrapping a clean piece of cloth around my arm.

“I wait. Let the Alpha King wake up and then proceed.”

They both nodded.

I stood to my feet and adjusted my clothing, “Sorya, send message to Uncle about my progress.”

“I will, my Queen.”

“Let's split up before Madam Donna or anyone sees us here.” I looked around to be sure once again that no one was within earshot.

After packing up the basket, I took it from Sorya, they both gave a slight bow and went in different directions while I headed to the Alpha King chamber to give him his evening treatment.
