Chapter 8 - Rogues' Attack.

“Another rule is, never allow your hurt and emotions to rule you. It is dangerous.”

And here again, I have completly done opposite of the rule I have been trained with.

My hand that hung midair trembled so bad that the knife I held almost slipped.

I tightened my fingers around it.

How do I escape this? The Beta was just several feet away from me.

What do I do?

My heart pounded hard against my chest, I swallowed hard on nothing as my insides twisted in fear.

What should I do? I tried to come up with any idea, to get me out of this foolish and terrible situation I have put myself in but nothing was coming.

The thudding in my chest increased, how in the godess’ name do I explain a maid whose hand is raised with a knife, just above the Alpha King.

“Is that a-” Beta Ilan was saying, stretching his neck forward to get a closer look of what I was holding, he almost took a step inside, when suddenly we heard a sneeze from the bed.

Beta Ilan gasped, he turned and raced down the hallway as he yelled on top of his voice, “Elder Sage!” Which I am sure the healer could hear even if he was a thousand miles away.

I heaved a breath of relief and instantly put the knife away.

“That was close.” I grabbed a thin layer of cloth which had been aired in herbs and placed it over the Alpha King's face.

Elder Sage ran into the room, the Beta behind him, “He sneezed?” He asked looking down at the Alpha King, whose face I have covered as he had instructed me to if ever a movement of awakening was noticed.

“Yes, Elder Sage.”

Elder Sage moved to the bed, gently lifted the cloth but the Alpha King was still unconscious. He gently placed the cloth back.

The healer went ahead to examine the body, from where I stood, I could feel the Beta's intense gaze on me, but I dare not look and so, I pretended to be so engrossed in what the healer was doing.

“You,” He took a step forward, “I saw you holding up something and your stance looked so dan-”

“My lord,” Elder Sage cut in with a shake of head, obviously tired of the Beta's constant suspicion, “Come, I need to get your wounds checked and treated.”

“I know what I saw. I feel there's more to her-”

His word is cut off by the Elder’s gently thug of his regalia.

I released a silent sigh of relief.

Damn! I do really need to earn his trust, with him constantly getting suspicious of what I do, he might decide on watching me closely and that would only spell doom.

“Aurelia, the goddess bless you. You have done your job so well, I must say.”

I bowed my head to the healer, turned and started mixing the herbs I would use for a deep cleanse on the Alpha King's body.

“Elder Sage, I do not feel comfortable with that maid, something about her is not right at all.”

I heard Beta Ilan say as the healer gestured him to remove his regalia.

“My lord, you are being too suspicious. Beside she just a weak Omega who is very harmless. Please put your mind at rest.”

The Beta released a very unsatisfied grunt.

My lips curled up in a smile.

A very harmless Omega indeed.

My moving hands over the Alpha King's body stopped, I lowered my head to be sure I was seeing right.

Was this another scar?

From the moment I started deep cleaning his body, I have stumbled on scars upon scars, staring intensely at them, to me majority of them don't look like battle scars.

They were small and oddly deliberately, I knew this because I and my mother used to tend to wounded warriors, which my father was one and I know a battle scar when I see one.

These scars don't look like one, especially the ones I am staring at around his side, it looks more like scars from several heads of bladed cane.

I frowned a little.

Was he tortured? What happened to him? It must have hurt him so-

I caught myself just in time, “Wait? I just pity a monster?”

I must be so crazy to do that. I shook my head, pushing the stupid pity out of my head.

“He deserves it.”

I continued cleaning, and then I got to his face, for a minute I didn't clean, I only stared at him.

A realization which I didn't want to welcome hit me… Despite being a monster, the Alpha King was indeed handsome and good looking.

Even when he looked so roughened up, his beauty was still intact …. The stories weren't a lie. That just a single glance from him could send her wolves of noble birth begging him not to look away.

I almost puked at that thought.

But I guess that's one of his peaks of being a monster, no one would ever be lured by a ugly looking monster, it's always the calm looking and handsome ones.

I started cleaning and yet again, I am met with a more larger scar on his forehead, from afar it looked so faint but on a closer look it glared.

I continued cleaning and then again saw another glaring scar behind his neck, the way his skin had squeezed together to form a healing told me it must have been stitched by someone who knew nothing about treatment.

I was about to take a better look when the door swung open, startling me, I stared up and saw the three beautiful, royally and expensively dressed she wolves.

The three chosen mates of the Alpha King.

The first chosen mate of the Alpha King, Princess Zena Eryndor, the first daughter and pride of her father, Alpha King of the East, Alpha King Eryndor.

She stepped forward and looked around, inspecting it as if looking for any imperfections.

I could tell from the way she looked around, she was one to hate when something or someone doesn't do as she wants.

The second mate who stepped right beside her is Yoni Morvain, the daughter of one of the top ranking officer of this soil.

And then my gaze finally settled on Luna Queen Nyx, the youngest of his queens, she met my gaze and gave a small smile, I could feel the helplessness and sadness in that smile and it made my blood boil.

I know the Luna Queen Nyx story, unlike the two other Luna Queens who loved to be with the monster. The story had it that she had been forced to marry him and I also heard that he had consummated with her and she had left his room with swollen and reddened eyes.

Underneath my veil, I gritted my teeth… I have to quickly put an end to this evil wolf, well he wouldn't escape all he had made others suffer…. I would make sure of it.

The three walked towards the bed, Luna Queen Zena stretched out her hand to touch him.

“Your grace, please don't. Elder Sage gave-”

“You dirty little Omega dares tell me what to do?” She huffed but still retreated her hands.

I bowed, I really don't want to blow my cover looking angry at her.

“She is just doing her job.” Luna Queen Nyx responded softly.

I raised my head and gave a slight bow to Nyx, she smiled.

Luna Queen Yoni huffed, “Don't make her look important, Nyx. We can-”

The door flung open with a thud and got cut off from its hinges.

“Who the hell-”

Words died in the throat of Luna Queen Zena, all of us froze as standing before us were three huge looking wolves… not just any wolves….

“They are rogues!” Luna Queen Nyx gasped in fear.

“We are under attack!” Yoni exclaimed as the three of them quickly scurried behind curtains, leaving me to face the three fierce, blood thirsty rogues.
