INICIAR SESIÓNThe village disappeared behind us. I never looked back, I didn’t dare to. Because I knew if I saw Mother crying one more time...
I'd run.
Even if it meant death.
“I won’t kill you.”
The Alpha's voice drifted toward me as though he had plucked the thought straight from my mind.
A dark smirk tugged at the corner of his lips as he glanced over his shoulder, meeting my hollow stare.
“I will kill them.”
The comment made my heart twist, struck like ice through my chest.
How could he threaten his own mate so casually?
How could a man who had finally found the woman he had spent years searching for speak of slaughter without the slightest hesitation?
“What else can you do apart from killing?” I asked quietly, my voice already too broken to carry any strength.
He didn't answer.
Or perhaps...
He simply didn't care enough to.
He turned forward, and the march continued as though nothing had happened.
The morning sun climbed higher, warming the dirt road beneath our feet, yet I felt nothing except the cold weight hanging around my neck.
My mark throbbed.
I was weak due to the marking.
But none of it affected him.
Every heartbeat reminded me that my life no longer belonged to me.
Around us, nearly a hundred Sapphire Blood warriors marched in perfect silence.
No laughter.
No conversations.
Only synchronized footsteps.
“...How lifeless.”
The words slipped out before I could stop them.
“That's discipline.”
I turned.
A young woman around my age walked beside me, her long white curls swaying with every step. Soft features. Calm eyes.
She smiled politely.
“And you are…?”
She turned to me, giving me a nod of acknowledgement while pointing at the tall blond man beside Alpha Zarius.
“Mateo’s mate. Wind.” Her smile widened.
“When managing such a massive pack. Discipline is strictly required.” She looked straight ahead.
“Else, we are nothing but stray beasts.”
“Are you not?” I spoke bitterly, glancing at my hands that were still trembling to think about what happened at my home.
“Your anger is understandable.” She glanced at me briefly, not offended by my statement though.
“But anger alone won't help you survive here…”
Her smile softened.
“...Luna.”
Luna?
The title felt foreign.
Wrong.
At least not his…
The march continued until midday.
At the sound of a whistle, the warriors immediately stopped.
Without needing instructions, everyone scattered into practiced roles.
Some gathered water. Others inspected the surrounding woods. Several remained on guard.
No one relaxed.
No one wandered.
And me?
My glare refused to shift from the golden-eyed man who seemed disturbingly calm.
He could sense my wrath yet decided to ignore it.
Or perhaps it didn’t matter.
Just as he said.
When glaring didn’t work, I decided to use words to earn a reaction from a man that was supposed to be my mate.
“I hate you.”
“Hate me.” He replied coldly, eyes focused on the map.
“I would never forgive you.”
“Don’t.”
“I would never be yours.”
“Never asked you.”
The nothingness in his voice made my chest tightened painfully. The mate bond screamed inside me but none of it reached him.
“What is wrong with you?” my voice raised, tilting my head to get a closer look of his face.
My eyes narrowed, losing my breaths but he gave me no reaction.
He was solely focused on the map.
“Aren’t my words affecting you?”
How could he stand there so indifferently while his mate stood before him completely shattered?
Why it wasn’t twitching a reaction in him?
“If anything.”
He exhaled a long breath, meeting my eyes with a dead calm that made me flinch.
“You are slowing me down, little one.”
I stared at him in disbelief. He cleanly folded the maps, eyes drifting to the path ahead.
“You…” I gulped in order to hold my posture. “...truly are the worst mate one could possibly have.”
“Consider yourself unlucky.”
Pulling back roughly, I sat on a nearby rock.
Cursing him, my destiny, Moon Goddess herself for binding me to a mate like him.
I poured every ounce of hatred I possessed into my glare.
I wanted him to see it.
To feel it, to regret something, to understand my pain.
Even if Robbie didn’t, as my mate, he would… right?
Anything...
Nothing changed.
Years beneath that curse had hollowed him, he no longer understood pain... not even his mate's.
“Don’t.” Another cold voice joined me, causing me to blink.
I turned my head and saw the tall blond man, Mateo, there.
“What?”
“If you spend all your time trying to get a reaction out of him…”
He held out a canteen.
“...you'll be the one who goes insane.”
My trembling hands accepted it. Only after taking several desperate gulps did I realize how thirsty I truly was.
“What should I do then?”
“What we all do.” He leaned closer, a dark smirk coming to his lips.
“Leave him be.”
“You cannot feel his darkness.” I lowered the canteen, my voice becoming quieter. “I can.”
Every heartbeat carried something and it was not love or comfort. Only an endless void that seemed to swallow everything.
“And if I am forced to hold this unbearable darkness.”
I turned to the Alpha, the glare of resentment coming back once again.
“He must carry my hatred too.”
“You’re making a mistake.” Mateo sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose.
“If there is anything that is a mistake. It is this mate-bond.” I retorted, loud enough for everyone to hear.
“Fucking cursed.”
He heard.
Of course he did.
But he never acknowledged it.
Mateo shook his head in disappointment and joined his Alpha.
As he approached, Zarius spoke without turning around.
“Do not poke the wounded animal unless you want it to bite, Mateo.”
“Just tried to keep Luna's spirits up.” He shrugged.
“Don’t.” His voice remained as emotionless as ever.
“She doesn't need it."
My eyes widened. Huh? Doesn’t… need it?
Had he truly forgotten what emotions were? I had been betrayed by my lover. Taken from my home. Marked shamefully.
If I didn't need comfort now...
Then when?
The more I intended to maintain a fair distance from her, the more she was approaching me and it was troubling me more than I could handle. What was wrong with her?Why desire me?In the evening, her scent caught me before she appeared. I didn't look up from the strategy maps spread across my desk. I couldn't.“You skipped dinner again. I brought you something,” Evelise said gently, giving me an expectant smile.Get out, my mind screamed. You aren't safe near me. The curse inside me was a silent, feral thing, waiting for a lapse in my control to tear apart anything I held dear. Unable to feel the bond's tether, I had no shield against the rage. Please leave, little one, I couldn’t bring myself to harm you anymore.“I didn't ask you to do that,” I spoke in a lifeless tone, not even bothering to spare a glance towards her.“I know,” she said, her light steps bringing her closer. “But you need to eat. You’ve been working yourself to death all week, Zarius. You’re barely sleeping.”Sh
~ ZARIUS'S POV:I tried, I swear, I tried coming closer, to dive deeper into the ocean of her heart but I had seen the consequences. Each slip of control from me results in danger. Each time my heart decided to react, it brought irrecoverable damage.Enough. ‘What? Tired already?’ Azrael teased me, his undesirable laugh echoing in my consciousness. ‘I thought we were going to fall in love with her.’“And let you take advantage of her? Never.” I hissed, leaning against my desk, rubbing my temples in frustration. I hated the look of disappointment in her eyes. She came closer despite I had given her nothing but anguish. She reached me with hopes. And all I did was to murder it.As I was lost in my thoughts, Wind appeared at my door and leaned against the frame, folding her arms at her chest. “What?” “You are hurting her.”“I know.”“She calls for you.”“I know.” I breathed out heavily, running a hand through my locks and making them messy. “But I no longer know how to approach her
Maybe he was just in a bad mood that day, I thought, tracing my fingers mindlessly on the sheets.Maybe I should try harder. Reassure him that I’m not going anywhere. Maybe one day Zarius will hold my hand and actually learn how to love…An unwelcome scoff echoed in the back of my mind. ‘What happened to you, Evelise?’“Huh?” I blinked. “What do you mean?”‘You were determined to leave. To escape this so-called nightmare,’ my wolf replied, her presence shifting in the dark corners of my consciousness. ‘Now you want to give it a chance? How?’“I thought the idea of me leaving would evoke emotions in Zarius,” I spoke truthfully, pulling my knees closer to my chest. “I didn’t know he couldn’t feel what we do.” I paused, the memory of another man’s—Yes, another man—face flickering in my mind. “And when Robbie offered me a way out, like he actually meant it, I couldn’t do it.” ‘That is what I am asking,’ my wolf pressed, her tone filled with protectiveness. ‘Why? What changed?’“Whe
The distance between us had become a physical ache. The mate-bond pulled at me relentlessly—a hopeless, desperate tug—while Zarius continued to shut himself out.Why was he not understanding? He barely spent two moments with me, let alone to talk. Was he still punishing me for the kiss with Robbie?Or punishing himself for letting the curse take over?As I sat alone in my room, heavy-hearted, a sudden breeze swept through the space. Robbie materialized out of thin air.I swear, this man was determined to get us both in trouble.“You? Again?” I frowned. “How do you manage to enter this room?”“That is a secret I cannot tell you.” “Why are you here?” “I thought you had reached an answer by now.” He shrugged, leaning against the wall, his impish smirk lingering.“Or are you thinking of staying for your little darling niece?” He mocked, tilting his head up with arrogance.A brief silence came between us as I looked down at my hands, confused.“What exactly is this Red Night, Robbie?”
~ EVELISE'S POV:What was with Zarius?Did alcohol always turn him into a creature of pure, unfiltered desire?...Useful information, at least. After an encounter that had left me breathless—with a sudden, thick heat pooling deep in my lower belly—the hardest task waiting for me tomorrow would be pretending everything was normal."Here. Do this." Mateo practically slammed a stack of files onto my desk, making me flinch.“What is your problem?” I hissed, glaring up at him.He had been shooting me with venomous looks and treating me like a plague for weeks. At first, I had tried to ignore it, choosing endurance over conflict, but it was pushing me to my absolute limit.“My problem is you,” he growled, leaning over the desk until he was entirely in my space. “You lie, you’re disloyal, and you ruin everything you touch.” Hatred burned raw and unmistakable in his eyes.“I don’t recall asking for your evaluation.” I scoffed, leaning back in my chair and crossing my arms."Oh, come on, Mat
After returning from the long lost memory, I decided to return to my room after days of avoiding her and found her sleeping in my shirt.I didn’t know why but it made me smile. She looked beautiful. She is beautiful. My steps stumbled, the haze from the alcohol had taken over my senses as I sat down and brushed my knuckles on her shoulders. She shivered.“Mhm….” My heart began to race, she was closer, extremely close yet so far that I won’t be able to reach even if I wanted to.But why?Why would I want to reach her in the first place?I had never desired love. Then why?Why did I feel so damn helpless and infuriated?“You’re… so—” Unable to control myself, I leaned down and pressed a kiss on her shoulder through the fabric but this heart…It was burning, screaming for more, to bite down and replace Azrael’s touch with mine. ‘Jealous? That I got her first?’ My jaw clenched, stopping immediately when his unwanted laughter echoed in my mind.I won’t deny it. Yes. I was.Extremely.
