Freddy's Pov

The ride to Montgomery Grand felt longer than usual, but Lilyanna's hand in mine provided me with some sort of comfort.

Her fingers laced tightly with mine, and she flashed me a smile at intervals.

The phone call has been brief but brutal.

It was my father at the other end of the line.

“You need to get to the office now. It’s the European merger. It’s bad.”

It was fucking midnight.

I hadn't told Kaelia much. Just enough to keep her from asking, but she had noticed the shift in me.

We pulled up at the hotel, and I stepped out and helped Lilyanna out of the car.

She looked at me with a worried expression. I felt bad for having dragged her into this. She already had her job, and I was about to stress her with mine.

I kept her hand in mine as we walked to the elevator and took a silent ride to the executive floor.
