Fucking hell,” was the last thing I heard from him before his lips met mine, his hands cooling my skin. But it still wasn’t enough. I wanted more. I needed him to ease the burning inside me. “Inside—” I gasped, turning my head to the side. “It hurts inside of me.” Seth was breathing heavily above me. “Do you know what you are asking for, Camilla?” I swallowed, looking at his face before spreading my legs. “Yes, Beta. I want you inside of me.” Camilla had always lived in the Green Hill pack but hadn't found her mate yet. She started to think she was either mateless or her mate wasn’t in her pack. After an attack with while she was cleaning the Luna’s house , she was taken to the hospital by their Pack’s beta, Seth. But when Camilla opened her eyes and looked into Seth's brown eyes, she felt sparks. She had known Seth, but even with their brief encounters, there was nothing. Camilla’s happiness faded when she remembered Seth was married and had a four-year-old son. Now, what would Camilla do, especially after finding out she was carrying the Beta's child? Would she remain the Beta's dirty little secret?

The fluorescent lights buzzed overhead, casting a harsh glow on the sterile white walls of the room. My body ached with every breath, and a dull pain throbbed on the side of my head. I tried to move, but a wave of dizziness washed over me, forcing me to lie back down.
"Camilla," a deep voice broke through the fog of my mind. I turned my head slowly, wincing as the movement sent another jolt of pain through my body. Seth, the new Beta of the Green Hill Pack, was sitting beside my bed, his eyes filled with concern.
"Beta?" My voice came out as a hoarse whisper, and I struggled to make sense of my surroundings. The last thing I remembered was cleaning the Alpha’s and Luna's house and getting attacked by a man in a hooded mask. I had been wounded, and then everything went black.
"You're safe now," Seth said, reaching out to gently take my hand. But then, he quickly dropped it like he was burnt, and my breath hitched. His touch was warm, and I felt a strange sense of comfort wash over me. "You've been here for a few hours."
I still couldn’t wrap my head around what was happening. I shook my head, licked my dry lips, and clenched my fingers around my dress. I couldn’t help but sneak a peek at him again, and my lips parted in a gasp as I finally realized what was happening.
“You’re—” Seth abruptly got up, cleared his throat, and turned his tense back to me. “You should rest,” he said, cutting off my words, and my heart sank.
He was going to reject me. My mate was going to reject me.
My hands shook, and I took in a deep breath and nodded. “Luna… Is she okay?” I questioned, and he looked at me over his shoulder and closed his eyes for a brief second.
His voice grew hard. “No. That is all I can tell you for now since this is a confidential matter.” And with those words said, he was gone.
———
When I woke again, the room was dim, and the pain had lessened to a dull ache. I was surprised to see Seth seated in the same spot I had seen him when I woke up the first time.
“Beta?” I called, and his eyes snapped to mine. His brown eyes raked over my figure before moving back to my face.
“How are you feeling?” he asked, and I nodded.
“I’m fine now… Are we going to ignore it?” I finally asked, and his body tensed up.
“We are mates,” he said, and a small smile spread on my lips.
“And you’re going to reject me,” I answered, and his brows furrowed together. He ran his palm over his face and sighed.
“No. I don’t plan on rejecting you, Camilla.”
My body tingled when he said my name, but I pushed it down to focus on what was happening. “You don’t want me,” I stated, and he groaned and took my hand in his.
We both gasped at the contact, but instead of pulling away this time, he tightened his hold on my arm and swiped his tongue across his lips. “I want you, Camilla. It’s—It’s just very complicated. I—” He sighed and ran his hand over his face. “I’m not rejecting you, but I just can’t do this now.”
Seth quickly scrambled out of the chair, and I jumped off the bed, my heart beating rapidly against my chest as I followed behind him.
“Ma’am! You can’t leave now!” a nurse said, her hand reaching for mine. I hissed at her and brushed her arm off. When I finally looked forward, I could no longer find my mate. He was gone.

When I got to the pack house, it seemed no one bothered to check on me. I scoffed at my own thought and dragged my heavy legs to the Omegas' hall. I was the invisible girl, the orphan that no one cared about or even bothered to.
I thought back to when I was eight, found abandoned at the pack's territory. My memory before that time was a blur, a void I could never fill. All I knew was that Ma’am Katherine, the kind woman who raised me in the pack house, took me in. She cared for me until I was sixteen. When she died, I tried my best to hide in the shadows, hoping to go unnoticed, to be the invisible girl.
“Hey! Camillaaa.” My body tensed at that voice. Scratch what I just said—I was no longer invisible. No, now I was Zoe’s friends' personal punching bag. Everything changed when I reported that a girl was being abused in the pack and had gone missing. The investigation traced the abuse to Zoe and her friend. Zoe tried escaping punishment but was killed by rogues. Ever since her death, the pack's hatred turned to me, as they believed it was my fault she was dead.
I slowly turned around to meet Mia, Jane, and Laura. Mia draped her arms around my shoulder, and they all began to lead me towards our rooms. I swallowed harshly as the door clicked shut and I was pushed forward.
“We didn’t see you this morning, and we were beginning to wonder what if you were eaten by the wild wolves,” Mia said, circling me and humming to herself.
“Or finally killed yourself,” Laura injected, and they all laughed. My head was tilted downwards and my fingers pressing into the skin of my palm.
“I was at the hospital,” I said, hoping they would leave me alone, but of course, all the things I wanted in this world never came true.
“No one cares, Camilla,” Mia said, stopping in front of me and tilting her head down to look into my eyes. She smirked when I turned my eyes to the other side.
“Such a good little puppy,” she mocked in a tiny voice, and Jane ruffled my hair harshly, and I winced at the pain that shot through my skull.
Now, I was beginning to regret not staying at the hospital.
“What? Does it hurt, Camilla?” Jane asked with fake concern in her voice and pressed even harder on the sore spot on my head. I pressed my fingers deeper into my skin to stop myself from showing any pain, or it would just get worse.
“What do you think we should do to her today, girls?” Mia asked, and a grin spread on their faces.
Laura twisted my hair between her fingers and then looked at each of her friends. “How about we shave off her hair today?”
My eyes snapped up, and without thinking, I dashed for the locked door, and my hands fumbled with the lock. A handful of my hair was yanked, and I turned to face them. Pain shot through my cheek as somebody smacked me, and without thinking—again, I balled my fingers into fists and punched.
I didn’t bother to look at who it was and finally pulled the door open. “You will pay for that! I swear it, Camilla! You will fucking pay.” A deep shudder ran through my body at the voice. It was Mia’s, and I knew she would follow through with her words.
Camilla’s POVThe day I left the hospital, everything felt different—brighter, sharper, as if the world had come into focus for the first time in weeks. Maybe it was the absence of pain, or maybe it was because I hadn’t been outside in so long. Either way, something had shifted, both inside and out.Seth drove in silence, his fingers drumming on the wheel like they always did when something was on his mind. The space between us was heavy, thick with all the things we hadn’t said. Ever since the fight with Tracey at the cliff where he had revealed what he did, I had been there—we hadn’t spoken about it but it was lurking just beneath the surface. I knew we’d get to it eventually. We always did. When we pulled into the driveway, the house was quiet. Jorge had passed out on the couch, his book still open, while Lucien was curled up in his crib, breathing softly. Seeing them like that, touched by everything we’d been through, made my chest ache. How could they look so peaceful when our wo
Camilla’s POVBeep. Beep. Beep.I wanted to block it out, but the sound grew louder, drilling into my mind.Beep. Beep. Beep.I wished it would stop.Beep. Beep—My eyes fluttered open, and the sudden brightness hit me hard. The light was too harsh, too familiar, pulling me back to memories of the first time. The first time I had met my mate."Camilla?"That voice. I knew that voice. The first time he'd said my name, I’d been here, in a hospital bed, just like now. A hand slipped into mine, warm and steady. Sparks danced up my skin, and I turned my head toward him, blinking to clear the haze. Seth’s face came into focus, his eyes wide, hollow, like he’d seen a ghost. Maybe he had. My brain was sluggish, working overtime to piece together why I was here.“Oh goddess... you’re awake... you’re really awake,” he whispered, his hand squeezing mine before he pulled away. I heard him talking, probably calling the doctors, but I couldn’t focus on his words. I wanted answers. When he came ba
Dear readers, in this chapter, you’ll experience flashbacks moving between the past and present. The point of view will also shift between Seth and Tracey throughout, so keep an eye on who’s narrating as the story unfolds.Seth’s POV- The pastSeven years ago.It was on the night when Zane was going to be appointed the new Alpha of the pack and my father would be handing over his role as Delta to me. That was when I first laid my eyes on her.She was beautiful… breathtaking. I was just twenty three years when I met her and we had ran together… I felt connected to her almost like she was my mate.I couldn’t find her after the run that night and it felt like my heart had been shattered. I didn’t even get her name.“Hey!” A female voice snapped as I bummed into her as I rushed to Alpha Zane’s office to inform him of the visitors we were having. My eyes met with who it was and my breath hitched. It was her… the female that I had ran with. The female I couldn’t stop thinking about.“It’s
Tracey’s POVWe were in the old wrecked cottage where Lucius had once chained Camilla, a place that still reeked of mildew and memories of the past. Dust clung to every surface, and the broken windows let in the cold autumn air, making the walls groan as if they, too, could sense the danger. I stood at the threshold, watching them—my child, Jorge, and that… that filthy woman’s boy. Lucien. I could see the way Jorge had wrapped himself around the brat, shielding him from me as though I was the monster here.As if that little parasite deserved his protection.Jorge’s eyes met mine for a brief moment before he turned his face away, his lips trembling. His hands tightened around Lucien, and the sight only made my blood boil. That was supposed to be us. Jorge, me and Seth, a family. But she had taken everything from me.“What is it, Jorge? Don’t you want to be with me again?” I took a step forward, my voice soft yet dangerous. He shook his head, his brown curls bouncing slightly, and I cou
Seth’s POVMy whole body was humming with anger, anxiety, and fear. Damn it, I had thought she’d come for me, that Tracey’s obsession would be aimed solely at making me pay. But no, she hadn’t gone after me directly—she’d gone after our children. She had taken the boys to lure both Camilla and me into her twisted trap.I kept clenching and unclenching my fists, trying to focus on anything other than the gnawing pit in my stomach. The fear was crawling through me like a sickness. And right now, the worst part was the waiting. We were still stuck here at the hospital, waiting to hear from the doctors about Ava. We couldn’t even leave to start looking for Jorge and Lucien. Every minute felt like a lifetime.Camilla sat next to me, staring at the wall. Her legs bounced on the floor, Ava’s daughter, Fiona sleeping on her lap, her eyes were wide, and they were bloodshot. She hadn’t said a word since we’d arrived at the hospital. Hell, I hadn’t known what to say either. What could I even say
Camilla’s POV“Where’s the piñata?” I yelled over the loud music blasting from the speakers. The air was filled with the scent of sugar and sunscreen, and the laughter of children echoed all around. I had a juice box in one hand and a crying Lucien in the other. My eyes darted around, scanning the crowd for any sign of Seth, who was supposed to bring the piñata about fifteen minutes ago.The juice box slipped from my fingers, splattering onto the ground, and I muttered a curse under my breath. I barely managed to avoid colliding with a guest, offering a hurried apology before continuing my search for Seth. Lucien started to wriggle in my arms, his tiny fists pounding against my chest, clearly wanting to get down. The music, the heat, and the noise were all starting to overwhelm me.“Oh goodness… Ava!” I called out, spotting her across the yard. She was chatting with some of the other moms, her hand resting protectively on her baby bump. Another baby cooking inside of her. She looked
