LOGINChapter 4
Kai's POV
The wolfless lady who had been stupid enough to try to steal from me was taken to the guest suite after I was done questioning her.
I could see the joy drain from her eyes in real time when I told her the only way she would be staying alive was by living in my villa, but she didn't put up a fight. And that was the one wise decision she had made that night.
It had taken everything in me not to pull her into my arms when I first laid my eyes on her. I could still smell the scent of jasmine, vanilla, and moonflower in the sitting room even though she wasn't there anymore.
I had been asleep when my wolf spirit suddenly jerked and was alert. The moment I gained consciousness, I was immediately overcome with a strange feeling and desire. My wolf growled in my head as we both knew what that meant.
Our mate was nearby.
Finding my mate should have been the happiest moment of my life.
Instead, I had found her breaking into my home.
My wolf wanted me to protect her, claim her, and keep her close. Every instinct in me screamed that she was mine.
But my mind couldn't ignore the evidence in front of me.
She had infiltrated my villa and attempted to steal something from me.
Until I knew who had sent her and what she was really after, I couldn't afford to trust my mate bond.
I made my way to my study and I stopped when I saw the items on my desk—powders, a brush, tape, and paper.
My eyes narrowed as I took it all in.
Had she been trying to steal my fingerprints?
She did say she was trying to help her boyfriend achieve something he had been working on.
I balled my fists when I remembered that.
Boyfriend.
How dare he date my mate before I even got a chance to meet her?
If I ever found out who he was, he was going to regret dating her.
I sat on my swivel chair and turned on my laptop.
Mia Hale.
That was what she said her name was.
She could have been lying about that, so I put her name into the Lycan Academy database and looked her up.
Lucky for her, her name and other information popped up.
She was 23 years old and in her third year of studying nursing.
Just like she said, she was a student nurse and worked in the school infirmary after classes.
She had good grades and took her education very seriously.
I paused when I saw a note at the bottom of her profile.
“Mia does not have a wolf spirit but she has special healing abilities and helps heal students (especially athletes with injuries). She has vowed to use her abilities the best way she can.”
I raised a brow at that.
She hadn't been lying when she said she had no wolf spirit, and that definitely explained how she was able to make it into the villa without any alarms going off.
She also seemed confused when I called her my mate. Did that mean she couldn't tell that we were mates?
I pushed those thoughts aside as I focused on what was more important.
I needed to find out who had sent her to steal from me, and why she had come for my fingerprints.
I didn't believe what she said about coming to steal from me for some boyfriend. She couldn't have risked her life if she didn't have a lot to benefit from it.
There had to be something bigger at play here.
And since I hadn't gotten the information I needed when I questioned her, I had to go about it another way.
I picked up my phone and dialed a number.
“Mr. Voss?” the voice on the other end spoke.
“First thing tomorrow, I want you to release a public statement naming Mia Hale as my fiancée,” I said simply, and the line went silent for a few seconds.
“Will do, Mr. Voss.”
He knew better than to ask any questions and I ended the call soon after.
The next morning, I woke up to my phone blowing up with calls, messages, and thousands of notifications. Just like I expected.
“Kai Luther Voss, what the hell happened within the last twelve hours and when did you get a fiancée without me knowing?” Cain demanded when I answered what was basically the twentieth call from him.
“Good morning to you too, Cain. And I'm just as surprised as you are,” I grunted in response.
“What the hell is even going on right now? Last time I checked, you didn't have any woman in your life, and all of a sudden you announce you have a fiancée and she's a wolfless student at Lycan Academy?” Cain snapped, and I rolled my eyes.
Cain was my best friend and business partner, which meant he knew everything about me.
“I found my mate last night,” I said bitterly, and there was silence for several seconds.
“That's huge news, Kai! Why didn't you tell me? I had to find out from the news this morning like every other person. Do you even know what people are saying?”
“What are they saying?” I asked.
“The Lycan high society is in chaos as we speak. Everybody is wondering why you would choose a wolfless student as your fiancée. I was also wondering why you did that, but now that I know she's your mate, my opinion has changed,” he responded, and I sighed.
Cain was silent for a few seconds before speaking again. “You don't sound happy about finding your mate… Why is that?”
“Because she broke into my villa last night and I suspect she might have been sent by my rivals,” I said with a scowl. “Although she said she wasn't a spy and was just trying to steal something for her boyfriend.”
If that damn boyfriend turned out to be real. I would tear him apart limb from limb. I would make him regret the day he asked her to be his girlfriend.
Cain blew a breath. “That sounds… rough. What are you going to do next? Where is she? Does she know you made this announcement?”
“I’m going to find who sent her. I made that announcement to hopefully draw out whoever is behind her since she wouldn't disclose the information,” I replied. “And she's currently in my guest suite. I have confined her to my villa, and she doesn't know I made the announcement yet.”
“Hmm. I hope you find the person who sent her soon,” Cain said.
My jaw clenched as I looked out the window. “I plan to.”
Chapter 5Mia's POV I woke up with a start. My head was throbbing when I opened my eyes. I blinked through the haze as I tried to recognize where I was. This wasn't my dorm room, was the first thing I realized. The bed I was laying on was way softer and bigger than the one I usually slept on. A groan escaped my throat as I looked around in confusion. The room was way bigger too. It was like two of my room combined. My eyes found a floor-length mirror in the far right corner of the room, and I caught my reflection. My hair was a mess. My eyes were puffy. My face was blotchy. And I had streaks of dried tears on my cheeks. That was when everything that happened last night came crashing down on me. Liam. The mission to steal the fingerprints for him. It was supposed to be a quick in and out thing. But I had gotten caught. By Kai Voss himself. And he claimed I was his mate. Even though I wasn't supposed to have a mate because of the absence of my wolf spirit. My life ha

Chapter 3Mia's POV I couldn't help the whimper that escaped my throat as two big and burly men tied my hands behind my back and put a blindfold on my face. “How could a tiny little thing like you break into our boss’s house and think you'll get away with it? You're going to regret it!” one of them sneered and I sobbed. This was not how I expected things to go. There was never a plan to get caught. All I had on my mind was stealing the fingerprints and getting away with it. This was not supposed to happen. “How did she even get past our security defenses? None of them got triggered. We wouldn't have known if the boss didn't smell her,” another one said and my ears perked up at that. Their boss smelled me? Kai Voss himself? That was odd. I didn't have a scent because of the absence of my wolf spirit. Did he have advanced senses or what?“Did you get her?!” the same voice I heard earlier demanded loudly, sending a delicious shiver down my spine. The scent I had smelled in the
Chapter 2Mia's POVLiam and I hatched a plan for me to go to the villa the next day. He had already gathered a bit of intel and had a layout of the villa to make it easier for me to access. When night fell the next day, it was go time. I was dressed in the most discreet outfit I could think of: black leggings, black t-shirt, black sneakers, and a black face cap to shield my face from the security cameras. Since it was practically impossible for us to hack or disable the cameras in the villa, I also had to wear a nose mask to hide my face some more. “Mia, are you ready?” Liam asked as he came into the room, and I nodded. “Yes, I am.”“Good. Let's go.”My heart was racing as I made a short prayer to the Moon Goddess. It might be a little hypocritical since I was literally going to steal, but I hoped she could see my heart and protect me. Liam and I soon got into the car and he drove us to the villa. Even though I was putting on a brave front so I wouldn't make him worry, I was
Chapter 1Mia's POV“Thanks for healing me, Mia. My ankle has stopped hurting,” the football player said with a grin, and I smiled at him. He had sprained his ankle during a match and he was brought to me so I could treat him just in time for the second half of the game. I had healing abilities that healed people faster than traditional methods. “You're welcome. You can walk and play football now, but go easy on the field just in case,” I told him, and he nodded. With that said, he got off the infirmary bed and was delighted when he could walk on his two feet. His team members gasped and cheered when they saw this. They all thanked me one last time before walking out of the infirmary. Once they were out of sight, I made my way to the tiny space I used as my office during my shifts and took off my nose mask and gloves.I had barely sat down when somebody barged into my office, banging the door loudly behind them. My heart skipped a beat as I flinched, wondering who could have sto
