“You know I love you right?” Raymond said to me as he cupped my face with both hands. I felt so happy to hear those words from him, those reassuring words before our wedding. Of course I knew he loved me, we had been together for two years and he had been the sweetest ever since. “Are you sure Ray Ray?” I asked him, even though I already knew the answer to that question. “Definitely” he responded to me with his reassuring smile that seemed to always take my burdens away. I sighed as I turned to walk towards the direction of the mirror that was in my room. I stood before the mirror, admiring myself. I was dressed in a shiny yellow dress, embellished with beautiful rhinestones and nice black heels, that went so well with my dress. I had always hated the idea of wearing a white dress during your own wedding, so I opted to go for a shiny, beautiful yellow dress that was also my favourite colour. The mirror before me, revealed a radiant soul, with a glow that shone from within, as I gazed lovingly at my reflection, lost in the depths of my own eyes. From the corner of my eyes, I could see Raymond walking towards me, with a light grin on his face. “You look really gorgeous tonight babe, I can’t wait to finally make you mine” he said to me, as he placed his right hand on my waist, spinning me around to face him. I giggled at his words, wondering what I did to deserve the greatest man that ever lived. Raymond and I met three years ago, at a small gathering led by my friends. Apparently, he had been invited by one of my friends and he had decided to actually attend. At first, I never paid him any attention, because I rarely liked to make new friends or liked to even talk to people. I had not even noticed he was there, until he walked up to me with two drinks in his hands. “Hey, may I have a seat next to you?” he asked, as he looked at me and also looked at the empty chair beside me. I was so close to letting him know that I was really not interested in talking to him, but I decided against it. “Yea sure” I said, giving him a cold reply. “Maybe if I give him a cold shoulder, he will eventually leave me alone” I thought inwardly. “Here, I got this for you” he said to me as he stretched one of his hands that held a glass of wine. “No, thank you”. I replied immediately, still giving him the cold reply and avoiding every bit of conversation with him. “And why is that?” he went further to ask, as he looked at me with a questioning gaze. I was already getting fed up with the questions, but I decided to keep my cool and not overreact or walk away. “only God knows what you have added to that drink” I said as I rolled my eyes, not even wanting to keep this conversation going, when I heard a laugh. I looked at him with curious eyes, and he was laughing. I was beginning to question what was so funny, that was making him laugh. What was making him laugh? Did I say something funny, that I did not know about?. At that moment, I stood up immediately and attempted to walk away from him, when I felt a hand grab me by my elbow, pulling me back. I gasped at the disrespect of this man. “What the hell is wrong with you?” I asked out of anger as I forcefully snatched my hand from his grasp. I took a step back, my chest heaving with anger. “Don’t you ever touch me again”, I hissed, my voice low and menacing. I could feel my heart racing with adrenaline, my mind racing with the audacity of his actions. “Whoa whoa whoa!, calm down!, I am so sorry, I didn't mean to get you all worked up, my apologies”, he replied almost immediately as he dropped the glass of wine he was holding on the table. “I am really sorry, please forgive my manners___” “Adrianna”, I responded as I immediately realized he was asking me about my name. He smiled almost instantly, after I told him my name. “Alright Adrianna, My name’s Raymond” he said, as he took a seat, urging me to do the same, as he pulled a chair for me. I shot him a glance, rolled my eyes, and sat down in the chair he had offered, folding my arms across my chest. Truth be told, now that I look at him, he didn’t look bad. He had a very well defined chiseled jaw, bright and captivating brown eyes that looked so vibrant and alive. He had golden brown hair that was styled and gelled to perfection and gave him a very good fitting. He had to be around five foot nine, contradicting my little height of just five foot six. “So, are you done staring?” he asked me a question, making me instantly blush and embarrassed. I had totally forgotten I was in my thoughts and was also staring at him. He kept looking at me, grinning from ear to ear as if I was some funny clown star, making a joke. “It’s okay” he said to me, giving me a reassuring smile, after he saw I was becoming more embarrassed and I had started using my hands to cover my face in shame. Weirdly enough, I was actually feeling attracted to him already, his smile seemed to calm my raging soul and made it peaceful, his smile was so reassuring. Raymond’s soft touch brought me back to reality, I had not even noticed that I had zoned out for that long. “Is everything alright baby? You looked so lost” he asked me, with a very worried look. “oh yes I am fine love, I just remembered the first time we met and the little argument we had. It was one hell of an argument” I replied to him as I giggled, remembering the incident that happened over again. He grinned as he cupped my face with his hands, giving me a kiss that seemed to take my breath away “Yea baby, I remember, it was a very eventful moment, now let’s prepare to spend the rest of our lives together” he said as he released me from his grip and walked out of the room. “See you at the wedding venue my future wife, or should I say my wife?” he voiced as he finally walked out of the room, and I could no longer see him. My ears twitched at those particular words, I was sure my ears were red and hot at this very moment. I spun myself around leaping for joy as I anticipated the best moments of my life in a few hours.ADRIANNA My hands trembled as I took it in. This could only mean one thing. Jasmine had been pretending all along. But for what reason? Why would she even think of doing something like that? Faking a pregnancy?Did Raymond even know about this? He had to, right? Maybe this was their ploy to step on my toes, thinking that it would hurt me to know that Jasmine was pregnant for Raymond. No wonder I found it weird, that all of a sudden, she announced that she was pregnant and they were even married, just a few weeks after finding out that they betrayed me.Somehow, everything wasn’t adding up, and I needed to figure out what this was all about. The vibration from my phone jolted me out of my thoughts. I didn’t even know I had spaced out for that long. I picked up my phone, only to find a message from Ethan, that read ‘you need to see this’I hurriedly gathered the pictures together, fixing them properly and putting them back into the envelope. I closed the car door and adjusted my hair
ADRIANNA “Then we better start moving” The words rolled out of my mouth. Sweat trickled down my face, and I dabbed it off with the handkerchief that I held tightly in my hand. I felt anxious, like my heart was beating faster than usual. My thoughts kept circling around what we would find on Raymond’s phone. I really hoped it was something concrete we could use against Jasmine.Ethan nodded, and then walked over to his bed. “I just have to pick something” he picked up his wallet, and walked back to where i stood. “Alright, let’s go” he held my right hand and pulled me behind him. We got to the garage, where Roland and Darka were already waiting for us, standing beside the range rover. Darka walked over to the side, opening the door for me, which I immediately stepped in. Ethan walked to the other side and hopped in.***The ride to the station was fast and quiet. Each second that passed, I couldn’t help the anxiety that creeped all over me. We got there in less than twenty minutes,
ADRIANNA I slumped down on my bed, facing the ceiling, lost in thoughts. Now that Anna had been arrested, it now dawned on me that this was real. The person I had given my trust to had betrayed me without even thinking twice. I just couldn’t wrap my head around it. Anna? The vivid memory of her giving something to Jasmine in the photo haunted me. Anna had been working for Jasmine all this time?‘But why?’ Was the question I had no answer to.I sat up and sighed. I turned to the left, where the envelope sat. I brought it closer and opened it up, bringing out the file in it. I read through the will, still shocked that Theresa had willed her house and belongings to me. My hand grazed the content, where her name was written.I sure did miss her. If she was still here, I'm sure she would have been jumping in excitement at the mention of Liam.“I miss you Theresa, so much…” I said softly, a light smile evident on my face.“I wish you were here to see” I lightly grazed the will, and sniff
ADRIANNA I clung to the hem of my dress with my right hand as I stared down at the pictures I had dropped on the table. It felt like a dream. It didn’t feel real. I looked around, staring at Roland, Darka and Ethan. They all had a look on their faces that read that they were as shocked as I was too.‘Where did it all go wrong?’ I questioned silently, staring hard at the pictures. How could she? No matter how hard I tried to wrap my head around it, I just couldn’t understand why!Why would she do this? Why would Anna do this? I had never done anything wrong to her, none that I knew of. I had always treated her like my sister, like someone I could tell things to.I cleaned off the sweat that trickled down my chin with the back of my palm and picked up the pictures. I began to walk towards the door, ignoring the calls Ethan made. I only had one thought in mind, and that was to confront Anna. I needed to figure out what all these were all about.I walked out of the study room, and down t
ADRIANNA “Roland and Darka are with the files,” Ethan said.“Darka said they found out who the snitch is,” he added, and my whole body became stiff. So this was really true? We really did have a snitch in our home?“Well who is it?” I asked, my tone laced with worry.“He didn’t say” he shook his head and shrugged.“I guess we’ll have to find out when we get home,” he continued.I stood up almost immediately. “Well we have to be on our way then” He stood up too. I rearranged the papers back into the envelope, and picked up my phone. We walked out of the room, and Ethan shut the door behind us.Just before we left the house, I grabbed my purse that was on the dining table.Ethan opened the car door for me, and I hopped in, anxiousness creeping through my bones. My hands were sweaty. He turned to the driver’s side and hopped in, started the engine and drove out and away from her house. I stared out the window, my mind reeling with different thoughts.Just who could it be? Who would sn
ADRIANNA I stood in front of her door, hesitant to go in. Ethan gently rubbed my shoulders and I nodded. I grabbed the doorknob and slowly twisted it open. I took a step in, darkness enveloping me.Everywhere was dark, lights off, curtains drawn. This made my heart twist in pain.My hand hit the wall, where the switch laid and I flipped it on, light illuminating everywhere. I walked towards the dining area, while Ethan stayed in the living room.Everything was as it was the last time I came. The table was cleared clean, and the chairs were pushed closer to the table. I dropped my purse on the table gently and walked into the kitchen. Here, it was the opposite. Utensils and ingredients she had used for baking the cake were placed on the counter. Flour was spilled on the flour, and the baking pan she used to bake was still in the sink.It showed how much effort she put into baking the cake, and she didn’t even get to eat it. I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath trying to stop
