My Friday nights

Myracle's POV

Friday nights were never quiet for me, Symphony and I would be out clubbing and enjoying ourselves. There wasn't much I could do at home, so I preferred spending my time out with my best friend.

I had accustomed myself to working all week and resting on weekends and so my weekend began at 5pm every Friday. I worked hard and when I rested I rested hard too. When I was in the house I moved as little as possible so no one would think I'm dead.

Nigel has a club and as usual Symphony and I make it a point to spend time there. Nigel is a friend and business associate. He has once again invited us to an event at his club.

Today something about the atmosphere is different. We are in the VIP section as usual and I can feel eyes on me. I am used to being looked at but tonight whoever is looking at me has their eyes lingering. I think it's the buttoned down shirt I am wearing but I think otherwise.

"Do you feel like someone is watching us" I ask pulling Symphony so his ears are close to my mouth

I am shouting at the top of my voice because of the music. I want him to hear me clearly and also try and see if I am not being paranoid.

"Nooooooo I can't, maybe it's because they are not looking at me" a scream practically leaves the mouth of my friend

I feel uneasy and I begin to look around. In a club full of people ,spotting the one looking at me is like trying to find the person who touched the hem of his garment. I would need to stick it out and see if this person comes forth. I am not taking any chances. I request for a little more security and the manager gives into my request.

The night is young but the eyes and the presence of this unfamiliar being have me cooped up in my seat and wishing I went home. Symphony has made friends with the dance floor leaving me to wallow in my misery with a glass of champagne and a cigar. I smoke when I am stressed.

The music is loud and I feel myself float through it. The lights are attacking my eyes in a different way tonight. The hype on the dance floor has me so glad I am seated in the VIP section. The ladies doing the pole dance look amazing, Nigel took my advice after all. I'm glad.

Nigel snaps me out of my thoughts and begins a conversation with me.

" you are in dreamland my friend " so unlike you to wander off in a crowd " he says with a smile

" tonight is different, maybe I'm just tired" I respond scanning the room

"You asked for security to be beefed up and now your attention is scanning the crowd, what's happening" he quizzically asks

" I feel like I am being watched and I cannot tell by who" I bluntly respond.

"Follow me" he instructs

I stand up grabbing my bottle of champagne. I instruct the bodyguard to tell Symphony who has not left the dance floor that I will be back. He responds with a head nod.

Nigel gets me to his office, with glass windows overlooking the entire club.

"Now look around and see who could possibly be watching you" he says "from here my darling we see everyone and everything but no one can see us." he says with a little chuckle "I'm sure you have never noticed that despite the thousand times you have been in here" he says looking at me

" I have never , not in a million years" I say moving closer to the wide window and standing there with my hands folded to my chest.

I look and scan the crowd but nothing stands out for me. I begin to feel paranoid. "It probably was just nothing" I say to myself.

"Do you see anything" Nigel asks after a long silence

"No, I guess it was nothing and I shouldn't worry myself about it" I say trying to convince myself

"Hmmmm I guess so" he says. "Now loosen up and go to the dance floor and do your thing" he instructs.

I finish off the glass I had placed on his table, grab my bottle and gulp down the contents heading to the door. I make my way down the stairs that lead to the dance floor.

The champagne has taken its toll on me and I am feeling tipsy. I am making dance movements with each step I take down the stairway. I suddenly bump into someone. The figure came out of nowhere, and stood in my way. I stumble backwards and use the railing for balance.

I am caught between shouting and apologizing but the person has their back on me. I run my fingers through my hair and wait for them to turn but the stranger makes no attempt to do so.

"Watch where you going, you could have hurt yourself" he says coldly

"You shouldn't have come out of nowhere" I say sounding stupid with every syllable living my mouth

He chuckles rudely and walks off leaving me looking at the back of an embroidered shirt with a lion on it. His hair is black and silky from where I am standing. The stranger disappears at the stop of the stairs.

I turn around and walk off wondering why it was hard for him to turn and look at me . I am not bothered by his action, I carry on and dance my way into the crowd. I find Symphony who I dance with, with no care in the world.

The stranger has somehow managed to make an appearance in the crowd. I abruptly stop dancing and look ahead and there is that embroidered shirt right in my face.

Symphony doesn't understand why I have stopped dancing so he pulls me back into the crowd to dance. I am uncomfortable and my body is refusing to cooperate with me.

"Dance with me" he instructs

"I want to go home" I say looking ahead

"The night is still young, dance with me" he insists

I reluctantly move my feet to the rhythm of the beat.I dance till I forget the strange person who invaded my space and mind a few minutes ago. I am carried by the music until my feet can barely carry me.

I am laughing and dancing with no care in the world. It's like I am not the same person who was close to losing their mind over a shadow that was following them.

We have drunk ourselves to stupor and we can barely walk. All we can do is laugh and so we call it a night. We retire and go our separate ways.
