Laura glanced at the food briefly before turning away, unable to hold back uncontrollable vomiting. Her stomach churned, threatening to expel everything. Yet, she could only dry heave, feeling even more wretched and helpless.
"I thought raw meat might not be to your liking, Kathy kindly arranged a banquet for you. What's wrong?"
John Barlow's cold voice echoed from above. Laura didn't need to turn around to know he was embracing Kathy and watching the spectacle. His voice and presence filled her with disgust and hatred. She wished she could break free from his humiliation and harassment immediately.
But reality was harsh: she couldn't escape.
The wolves had already begun gnawing on the remains of the food. They didn't seem to mind the taste or odor of the food; they simply chewed and swallowed mechanically.
Laura's stomach twisted, aching deeply, as if it were being tied into knots. Her senses faded gradually, the feeling of impending collapse looming. Yet, she understood she couldn't just give in. She had to hold on, to persist! Her life's purpose now was vengeance! She refused to succumb to humiliation, fueling her determination with fiery rage.
Crawling over, she picked up a half-eaten steak, previously gnawed by wolves. Her eyes reflected unwavering resolve; she wouldn't yield to torment and disgrace!
She'd rather eat what wolves touched than anything fed by those wretches.
"Oh, my word! Look at her! She's a real lowlife, scavenging food from animals!"
The nobles' mockery echoed endlessly, yet inwardly, Laura smirked without pause. Her resolve was firm; she couldn't starve before seeking revenge.
"Laura, you'll eat anything wolves have nibbled on. You've never let me down," Kathy Legoza chuckled hysterically.
"What's the matter?" Laura looked up, meeting Kathy's gaze defiantly.
"Can't bite back the man I've bitten?" Her retort silenced the noble laughter momentarily, her words sharp and clear.
Kathy paused, then erupted in fury. "Someone, hang this scoundrel!"
Several guards hurried over, wary of the wolves, and tied Laura to a cross-like stake, allowing the guards to whip her until Kathy's satisfaction was met.
Mid-torment, pain overwhelmed Laura, and she blacked out. Upon awakening, she found herself alone, bloodied on the ground. The wooden stake lay toppled, as if she and the stake fell together. Their tormentors had departed.
Her clothes were in tatters, knees scraping against the ground, revealing bone. She dared not inspect her body further.
Numb, Laura dipped her fingers in her blood, painstakingly etching the image etched in her memory onto the ground.
Stroke by stroke, she meticulously outlined the ancient formation from the book until it lay complete before her.
After a brief pause, nothing occurred, only a gentle breeze passing through.
"It's all a lie," she snorted and muttered to herself, "This talk of spirits and gods is just a crutch for the weak and incompetent."
Laura Legoza, you're such a fool. How could you believe this?
As she spoke, the wind abruptly intensified, whirling around Laura like a chilling breath.
"Are you calling for me?" She whirled around suddenly.
The moonlight vanished behind dark clouds, and the black mist ahead took on the form of a slender figure. The man wore a black robe, black hair cascading down, with red horns atop his head. His eyes, also blood-red with slanted lashes, held exquisite yet unfeminine features.
The man observed Laura briefly and spoke coldly. "Why summon a dying man?"
Laura sneered contemptuously without fear. "Kidding? How could I die?"
As she uttered these words, a searing pain engulfed her heart, causing her to double over.
In an instant, the man was at her side, grasping her waist and lifting her from the ground, their bodies pressed together. He sank his teeth into Laura's neck.
Though Laura's eyes widened, she felt no pain, only the swift departure of life. An unknown force compelled her to grasp his wrist and claw at it with her nails.
"Whether ghost or human, you won't escape if you dare to kill me!"
Her nails scratched his wrist, and the sharp teeth retracting from her neck. A blood-red light flowed over her, healing deep wounds as it passed.
Bowing his head to Laura, his voice laced with a caged murderous intent, he spoke, "Daring to seal a blood pact without permission... Do you understand the price?"
As he spoke, his sharp teeth were already touching Laura's wrist.
"I have nothing left, so I fear no loss."
Laura stared at him with a completely indifferent expression.
"Humans trade with me at the cost of flesh and blood."
He looked at Laura, trying to catch the girl's fear with this remark.
But the girl in front of him suddenly laughed, as if he had said something very stupid.
"Flesh and blood? If I can't take revenge, what use is this flesh and blood to me?"
The next moment, her smile vanished and her eyes were filled with coldness and anger that did not belong on her sweet face.
"Just my flesh and blood. Eat it."
Laura moved her arm closer to his mouth again.
"I'm full. Please kill someone for me."
Then she saw him smile, his eyes darkening with unrestrained joy.
"Miss, you are fascinating, so, I think I can play with you."
Years later, as the sun cast its golden rays over the peaceful countryside, Ned and Laura sat on their porch, looking out over their lush garden. Their hair was now white with age, but their eyes still sparkled with the same mischievous glint as in their younger days.Laura tended to the flowers while Ned tinkered with a small device, his mind still filled with ideas and inventions. They had grown old together, side by side, and their love had only deepened with time. One day, a young boy appeared at their cottage. He introduced himself as a descendant of one of their old friends and said that he had come to seek their wisdom. The boy, named Alex, was a curious and adventurous soul, and he wanted to know more about the legendary heroes who had saved the kingdom.Laura and Ned smiled at the youngster's enthusiasm. They invited him to stay and share their stories, their experiences, and the wisdom they had gained over the years. Alex was eager to learn, and he listened intently as they
Leo spoke up to Halen, "Prince Halen, something this bizarre must be caused by some kind of supernatural force. I've heard of a similar incident happening in a kingdom to the east."Upon hearing Leo's words, Halen's eyes lit up, and he called Leo close to him, eager to hear more.Leo began to speak in a measured tone, "Prince Halen, it is rumored that a curse was placed on the head of the patriarch of that family, causing a series of strange events that ultimately led to the deaths of all its members."Halen was taken aback and asked, "Do you know who the patriarch of that family was?""I've heard rumors that his name was Massimo Legoza!" Leo replied.Halen's eyes widened in surprise, "What! How could it be him?"Seeing Halen's reaction, Leo pretended to be oblivious and asked, "Why, Prince Halen, do you know him?""He's the Duke of our family. I never knew he was once the patriarch of a family," Halen said, sounding alarmed.Leo feigned concern, "Oh, Prince Halen, then you must be ca
The guard hurriedly entered the study to report. "King, something terrible has happened. The Queen... The Queen is gone.""What?" King Naumes stumbled slightly, his face registering disbelief."King, the Queen is dead," the guard said tremulously, afraid of the king's anger."What! Impossible! My mother was fine. How could she be dead? You stupid guard, shut your mouth!" Halen looked incredulous, contradicting the servant and kicking him to the ground.King Naumes pointed at the guard, his voice trembling. "Where is the Queen? Tell me where she is!""King, she's at the castle gate. The doctor believes she fell from the terrace," the guard said.King Naumes rushed to the castle gate, his heart pounding. He saw the Queen's closed eyes and the blood staining her lips, her blood soaking into the ground. The king embraced the queen, shaking her body and calling her name desperately. But she wouldn't respond to him like she used to, and the king howled in despair."Why? Why?" The king, who
Ned gently placed the handkerchief back over Laura's face and patiently explained, "If you don't wear this, Massimo will recognize you instantly when you come across him. It will be difficult to carry out our revenge then."Laura found Ned's words reasonable and didn't protest further. That evening, Ned and Laura were standing on the top floor of the castle, admiring the view. "Laura, what do you think we should do now?" Ned knew that with Massimo's return, Laura would be eager to take the next step."It's time we create something interesting to celebrate Massimo's return," Laura said with a glint in her eye.Ned understood Laura's intention and asked, "Who do you want to be the first to initiate this?""Of course, it should be our esteemed First Prince. I want him to go down and fetch washing water for my sister
Nevin slowly approached Laura and placed his hands around her waist. "Could you be my princess consort, replacing the previous one?" he asked. Laura felt a sense of disgust as she heard this. She almost pushed him away, but then she thought that being close to the prince might provide an opportunity to exact revenge on the princess consort. So she pretended to be bashful and remained silent. To Nevin, Laura's silence seemed like acquiescence. He continued, "Alright, then from now on, you will maintain the schedule of the previous princess consort and take her place. You won't have to do any cleaning; I'll have the servants do it for you."Just as he finished speaking, Halen walked in and applauded, saying, "Brother, you're really in high spirits! The princess consort has just left, and you're already cozying up to her servant." Laura, sensing Halen's arrival, discreetly made her way out, but lingered near the door.
The knife pierced through the princess's body, and she slowly collapsed to the ground.Everyone was horrified by the princess's actions. In the distance, Ned watched the scene with a smile."This family is really interesting," he said.Nevin's eyes widened as he watched the princess lie motionless on the ground.Halen immediately ran over, cradling the princess's body in his arms. "Why? Why did you do this? You didn't have to protect me," he asked, confused.Blood continued to pour from the princess's mouth as she trembled and spoke. "Because you were so good to me, and I knew all about your plans," she said."You knew, but you still helped me? Why are you so foolish?" Halen was shocked to learn that the princess had been aware of his schemes."Because...because you were one of the few people in this castle who were kind to me. Even
