Chapter one

(Bianca POV)

I wake up every morning with two thoughts in my head. One is that I hate waking up to go to school, and second, I love waking up to the salt air coming through my window every morning. I lived by the ocean as long as I can remember, and it could be because not only does my father loves the sea but owns a seafood restaurant not too far from here. My father and some other men will go fishing every weekend to catch what he’ll be selling at the restaurant. I’m betting that’s why his place is number one in Florida. Sadly, he hasn’t been fishing in over a month, because he’s been sick. No use in trying to put off that I’m going to need to get up and ready for school. The weather was so beautiful today that I decide that I was going to wear my white tank top, black blouse with pink roses on it, blue jean shorts, and my brown strapped sandals. Of course, I wore my mother necklace that had pearls that were carved into roses into them, and a moon shaped pendent on it.

After getting down with the usual morning routine that I go downstairs to see that my father was already awake with breakfast on the table waiting for me. My father always had a thing for a Japanese breakfast only because he loves to make fish for every meal if he can. He made a smoke salmon, omelet, miso soup, and some pickle vegetable. He was on his laptop as I sat down to eat. Most likely trying to get some work done because he won’t be going into the restaurant today.

“Did you sleep well, Princess?”

“Proble better than you did. When are you going to get your results from the doctor?”

“I actually have an appointment today to get the test results they took, but I know the results will show that I just have some bug and I’m going to be fine.”

I just gave him a look as he started to cough up a lung or two. I know he tries to hide that his coughing is so bad that there’s blood. I just don’t know what I do without him. He’s the only family that I have in this world, and I do say only. I never met his nor any of my mother’s family. Hell, I never met my mother, because I was told that she died when I was born. I’m going to need to finish my breakfast before Calida gets here to pick me up from school. Just as I get done eating, making sure the dishes were washed and put away that Calida walk into the kitchen.

“Hey Mr. A, I brought you more of the tea.”

“Morning hon, and thanks.”

“Would you like me to make you a cup before I go to school?”

“That’s alright princess, I’ll make a cup myself. You need to get going before you guys are late, and don’t forget to get your lunch out of the freezer.”

“Yeah B, the guys are waiting for us in the car.”

“Alright, see you after school dad, and don’t forget about your doctor’s appointment.”

“Princess, just worry about getting to school.”

I went behind him as I wrapped my arms around his neck.

“I love you, daddy.”

“And I love you, Princess.”

I know he tells me not to worry about his health, but that’s easier said than done. I get my lunch as I follow Cal to her car seeing that Hunter and Aaron waiting for us. Hunter is Cal’s twin brother that I’ve had a crush on since I met him, and Aaron is Cal’s boyfriend that she’s been going out for four years now. I was always shocking that Hunter and Cal were even related let alone twins. Cal is pale, long black hair, piercing not only in her ears but also in her face, and you can say she’s big into goth just like Aaron. Hunter is more of a preppie with the clean-cut light brown hair, trimmed beard, and the most amazing green hazel eyes. He was in the back seat of the 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 that Cal got from her grandparents on her 16th birthday, and Hunter got a Harley. He looked up from his book and smile as I was joining him.

“Hey beautiful, were you able to get the math homework done?”

“Yes, but I’m still having trouble with my papers on Poseidon. My father always had a thing against me learning anything on the Greek gods.”

“Well, it’s a good thing that our literature class is taking us to the museum today to give us more info on the Greek mythology. Were you able to get your father to sign the permission slip?”

“Yeah, I had him sign yesterday morning when he was still half asleep. It’s sad that I have to lie just so I can get more info on my essay, but if I don’t get done with it that’s like half my grade.”

“You know that I’m always here for you, Beautiful.”

God, does he know what his smile does to me. It’s bad enough he has a habit of calling me beautiful, but does he mean what he’s saying. It’s hard for me to believe it because of my pale skin, long white hair, pale silver eyes, and a body that isn’t very womanly. The best way to describe me is a porcelain doll a little girl would get.

“So, who did you choose?”

“I decide that I was going to write about Apollo, and Cali is going to write about Artemis, just like us that they were twins as well. What about you Aaron?”

“Hades.”

“Are you really surprise, Hunt?”

“Not really, Cali.”

It was like that all the way to school with Hunter and Cal making fun of each other. I really wished that I had some siblings, even if it’s just one. I grew up with it being just my father and me. I never really understood why he never got remarried or even dated another girl. I know a lot of women who would just love for my father to ask them out. I guess people would say that he’s good looking with long blonde hair that he wears up, blueish green eyes, and a body many women would die to touch. I heard a woman once saying that he has a body like a Greek god and that really pissed him off. As we get to school that we all had to hurry to get to the bus before it left without us. When we get there Mr.  Malik was already there waiting for us. He was leaning against the bus looking annoyed that we were late. I’ll have to say he good looking for a teacher, and a lot of the girl in school just fall to his feet.

“Thank you for finally joining the rest of the class, now please get onto the bus.”

I was a little surprise to see that Cal wanted to sit with Aaron on the bus leaving me to sit next to Hunter. He was sweet to let me sit next to the window, and I than felt someone’s hand next to my leg. I looked over to see that it was Hunter, but before I can ask him about it that I hear the teacher clearing his throat.

“Alright, does everyone here have a god or goddess that they are going to be writing on. The reason I left a board in the front of the class with the names of the gods and goddess are that I do not want two people working on the same person. I hope you remember to bring your bag with not only your lunch but also something to write with on onto. I want each of you to collect as much information on the person you’ll be doing your essay on. I want each of you describing the god or goddess in detail. I would like you to explain their history, characteristics, and strengths and weaknesses. The essay needs to be between 750 to 1,000 words and it will count as half your grade, so it needs to be taken series. I also want you to prepare a 10-minute speech to talk about the person you chose to the whole class and I as well. Remember to also try to have fun with this. Oh, btw, this needs to be all done within two weeks.

Really? All that done within two weeks, and all our other work that needs to be done with all our other classes. The rest of the trip I felt Hunters hand so close to me, but I was too scared to ask him anything about it. I was relieved when we finally get to the museum that I almost tripped over Hunter trying to get off of the bus.

“Are you alright, beautiful?”

“Yeah, I was just getting car sick and I needed to get off the bus.”

He gets up for me as he holds his hand out, but I was almost too afraid to take it with my hand so sweaty. Mr. Malik walk the whole class straight to the exhibit of the Greek mythology. There were twelve statues in the room of Zeus, Hera, Poseidon, Demeter, Athena, Apollo, Artemis, Ares, Hephaestus, Aphrodite, Hermes, and Hades.

“Alright, class, behind each statue there is a room of that god or goddess that your gathering information on, and if I were you, I’d take advantage on all the info this place is offering.”

As I was walking away that I feel a hand on my arm to see that it was our teacher.

“Bianca, I seen that you toke Poseidon like I suggested you should, and I also heard that your father is very much against you knowing anything on the Greek gods.”

“I’m not really sure why he’s like that, but I’m not going to let that effect my work.”

“I’m sure you won’t, but I also like to help direct you into the right direction. The room has a lot of information on him. Like his role as a good, his brothers, children, his many lovers, and even that it has been said that he took human form to protect what he treasures.”
