Exploring the Ranch

I woke to the smell of bacon wafting past my nose. My nose twitched as my mouth watered. I scrambled out of bed just as my stomach started moaning. I quickly washed and put clean clothes on. I rushed downstairs and saw grandad sitting at the dining table. A plate of bacon and eggs, tomatoes and sausages were next to a mug of coffee. I quickly sat down and automatically my stomach grumbled again.

A laugh came from grandpa as I picked up my knife and fork. He reached over and placed a piece of toast onto my plate. We ate in silence till we both finished eating. I was full.

"What are you planning to do thus morning kiddo?"

"I was thinking of taking a walk around the place, you know explore a little."

"OK, but don't wander into the forest out back ok."

I nodded and started drinking my coffee. Grandpa got up and put his finished mug in the sink, he walked to the door pulled his boots on and left. I stood up and walked outside. Just outside of the main door was a small table and chairs on tve wrap around veranda. I sat down and took in the vuew of the ranch.

Men were working over at the hay barn. while another man was on horse back riding somewhere. Grandpa was standing over at a paddock looking at a horse that was running around inside. I left my mug on the table and grabbed my training shoes that was on the floor in the porch way. I slipped them on and made my way down towards the paddock where Grandpa stood.

When I got there he was talking to a man who was inside of the paddock. I stood quietly looking at the majestic black beast that seemed pretty wild. I took slow steps till I got to the fence. I slowly climbed it and swung my leg over the top sitting there. Thus horse had fantastic movements. I heard the man tell Grandpa that he couldn't get near it. Everytime someone approached it, it went crazy.

Grandpa listened to what the man was saying, eventually he decided to go in and give it a try. My eyes widened in shock as well as fear.

"Grandpa you can't."

"It's alright kiddo your grandpa will do fine." He gave me a smirk before letting himself inside. He stood in the center watching the horse move around at nearly full speed. The horse was snorting, his head up high, his tail standing up straight. He was magnificent.

Grandpa just stood there quietly and watched every movement. He walked to the gate and took a long rope off of the gate, never taking his eyes of of the horse. He went and stood back in the middle then extended the rope. He chased him around the paddock without running after the horse. He just chased him with the rope. It was fascinating.

The horse was still snorting when I saw grandpa turn in the center placing his back to the horse. After a few minutes the horse slowly walked over to him. Grandpa reached out slowly and stroked it. A big smile appeared on my face when grandpa looked over at me. He gave me a smile then turned back to the horse. I didn't want to disturb them or get in their way so I climbed back down and started to walk around the ranch.

I walked past the feeding shed and walked down a path that was separated by trees on either side. Nature was amazing, rabbits were hopping around amongst the grass and bushes. Small deer was roaming in field not far from me. Birds were flying in between the trees and singing. The sun was shining in a clear blue sky. Wild flowers bordering some of the pathway.

It opened up to the most beautiful and amazing view. the fields were stretched out miles. To the left was a never ending forest from what I could see. The mountains in the back ground had snow covering the tops. A small breeze brushed past but it wasn't cold. It was refreshing. I found a spot by a broken tree log and climbed up on it and just sat their taking the majestic view in.

I don't know how long I had been sitting there but my head snapped around when I heard a rustle come from behind.

"Kiddo, it's just me. I wandered where you went. You have a Doctor's appointment kid we need to get going."

"Ok." I replied. I jumped down from the log and walked towards grandpa. He turned and I followed him as we both walked back to the house. I quickly washed up and changed my top then met grandpa downstairs. we walked to his truck and headed to town. The town was about 40 miles away from the ranch.

The journey was quiet but I felt grandpa look over at me a few times.

"Kiddo, no pressure but im here when you want to talk to me."

"I know grandpa, but I can't not yet."

"I understand kid but just remember your safe."

"I know, thanks grandpa." I turned my head and looked out of the window.

Right now my life was quiet. No Pack, no Cylus, but I know it was just a matter of time. I sighed as I just wished Cylus would just leave me alone. But at least right now I have found a safe place to raise my pup. The truck pulled up outside of the doctors office. we walked threw the door and came face to face with a very sharp looking woman. Her eyes were to close together and she had a long pointy nose.

After signing in me and grandpa went and sat down in the waiting room. I was beginning to get a little excited. Will I see my pup today? After a few minutes my name was called. Grandpa stayed in the waiting room, I followed the doctor.
