Chapter 19: A Stranger's Hope

"Chloe? Are you ok?" Kade whispered to his sister as they huddled together in their tiny cell.

"I'll be better when mommy gets here." she whispered back, squeezing his cold hands.

"Do you know when that will be?" he's asked, trying to be brave for his sister.

"No, you know I don't know how to tell time with the things I see yet." she grumbled at her brother.

"What do you think they are going to do with us?" he asked, looking around at the dark room.

"They're going to strap you down and poke you with needles and try to figure out what makes us all different from them and how they can control you for their own gain." a voice echoed from another section of the corridor where they were being held.

"Who said that?" Kade said in his bravest voice he could muster.

"Just another captive. I've been here for two years now. No one is coming." the voice said again.
